I don't know why I still haven't read Tell the Wolves I'm Home! I'm pretty sure I'll love it so thanks for reminding me 😊 I liked the excerpt you read from Year of Wonders so I'll have to give that a go too.

Ha I just picked up exhalation again last night! I had read the first story in it “The Merchant and the Alchemist’s Gate” a while ago and loved it and hadn’t continued the collection. Just read the title story that you talked about in the video and absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to continue reading a story a night before bed from it. Very good sci fin

Hi Sabrina! I haven't heard many people talk about Tell The Wolves I'm Home and I loved it so much. It has stayed with me since I first read it a decade ago and I've recommended it to many, many people - especially my friends with teenage kids. So happy to see it have an impression on you too! 🥰 I also want to get to Geraldine Brooks - I wonder if that is the best place to start - I also have March and People of the Book...I'm reading The Rachel Incident with my bookclub this month - can't wait. Thanks for adding a few more to my TBR ❤

thank you for pointing out the anachronistic pop culture references in Demon Copperhead lol. that’s always something i can’t believe makes it to print. i just watched Saltburn, which is set in '06/'07, and there's a scene where they party to the literal biggest hit song of 2008. where are the fact checkers??? haha i somehow went all year without knowing that that’s what The Rachel Incident is about and now i'm super excited to pick it up! (as a Sally Rooney apologist)

Don't have to apologize for liking Sally Rooney! I have often thought I should give her another try 😅

I enjoyed your video and dig your range of interest. Subscribed! First....I have an insatiable appetite for books. Therefore, I will not be purchasing any books for the next two years. My goal is to read either from my collection or use my library. Herman Diaz really won me over with Trust. I checked out the audiobook and completely was moved by the use of prose, character development, and the discussions about: class, industry, and relationships. Thanks to you, I definitely will be reading In The Distance. I think I will pair that with John Williams's-Butchers Crossing. I also will be reading Poverty and Exhalation! Octavia Butler is one of my favorite writers! She left all of us some wonderful works. My 2023 favorites were all over the place. I am thinking more and more about using big themes to guide me. Look forward to your future videos!

I'm glad you like my recommendations. I do pride myself on reading a little bit of everything, so I hope I can provide some interesting recommendations in the future. I'm hoping Hernan Diaz writes many more fascinating books.

The Rachel Incident was my favourite read of 2023. Loved it! I really want to read more sci-fi and need to try some Ted Chiang!

I think he's a very accessible sci-fi writer for lovers of literary fiction. His use of language is exquisite.

I have wanted to read Year of Wonders for years and I am really hoping to get to it this year. I also love the cover! I picked up The Rachel Incident and it wasn’t working for me at the time, but I would like to give it another go since it’s been on so many lists and because I’m a big fan of Caroline’s podcast Sentimental Garbage. So happy to see videos from you again. ☺️

I didn't realize that she had a podcast. I also hadn't heard of her before I don't think, so I foolishly assumed The Rachel Incident was a debut. I'm going to have to dive into her back catalog and also check out the podcast.

Tell the Wolves I'm Home was such a lovely book. Sirens & Muses was high on my list last year, but I never got to it. Maybe this year. I've had In the Distance on my shelf to read forever, and you are the second person I've seen who counted this as a favorite for 2023. I've also got The Rachel Incident; I'm happy to see it made your top spot!

I've heard a couple people talk about Girlhood but you're the first to convince me to put it on my TBR. I also read Parable of the Sower last year and you're making me excited to pick up the second one. And the power of a gripping audiobook while doing a puzzle cannot be underestimated!! Thanks for sharing your list!
