Engine Masters (the TV show) had a battle of the budget carbs episode. They used an $800 Holley XP for a baseline and tested various different brands of carbs against it. Most lost to the Holley XP but the cheapest carb tied it, a Summit Racing $350 carb. The irony of it was the Summit was a redesign of a failed Holley carb and the Summit carb is made by Holley and uses Holley parts. It also has every little bell and whistle you could ask for in a carb, annular booster, sight glasses, etc. for low money. Barry Grant was brilliant and I wish his company was still around. I have one of his blow-through carbs sitting on a shelf waiting for a project right now and I have no intention of selling it.

I been a professional carb builder for 30 years, and I like the Demon castings and components, the only issue I find with most all Demons is the emulsion package is too lean. Once setup correctly per application, they work quite well. and the aesthetics are definitely second to none.

Speed Demons... you have to really go through the metering blocks and get rid of flash/trash metal from factory machine work [as they were first made]. It takes 7-10x magnification to really spot the problems, and go ahead with a set of pin gauges to blueprint all holes.. I went through a 650 years back and had crossover from idle well to idle mixture screw blocked about 40% on all four corners [metal wiped across opening from drilling the idle wells]. Also found two air bleeds that had maybe 25% occlusion. They got in an awful hurry drilling those things out... another brand billet block might work?

I always wanted a Race Demon. I remember when they came out. I saw all the cool features, and knew that it was a winner. I just couldn’t afford one. I’ve been running Holleys, and doing my own modifications, either in machine shop, or by hand. Good insight on the burgers too!

I loved my 625 Road Demon! I put it on a mild 383 chev with a 280 single pattern, Trick Flow 64cc, and 9.5-1 pistons. Throttle response was incredible and instantly revved to 7k. Had it in an 85 camaro, would do 100 mph sitting still. lol The Demon was great, never had a problem, but had to tune daily sometimes, it was so sensitive, but I didnt mind.

Compared to the Holley carbs when these were introduced these were light years ahead . Although the old Holley carbs kept us very busy at the shop when the ethanol fuels came out . Not a problem with the Demond’s .

Ya that was me with the Sonic for a second choice. You need to come here in Tx and I will treat you to lunch. I looked you up, you are 4 hrs from me. Whataburger triple meat/triple cheese with bacon is a once a year thing. That is enough to give an elephant a heart attack. Dairy Queen is real good too. In-n-out, McDonalds and Burger King - all trash. Another good one is BurgerStreet if you can find one. Anyways, I have owned 2 Demons both before Holley or Mr.Gasket or whoever owns them now. I loved my 650 Speed Demon. Had a Holley 750 on it and the Speed Demon walked the Holley 750. Only changed the rear jets up 2 sizes and a 12.8 afr from start to finish. Sold that to my stepdad to recoupe some money for my current 750 Mighty Demon. 650 still on his 355 sbc and it runs as good as it did on my 362 Cleveland. No complaints about my 750 MD. Its a little rich but it still has the original jets. I would like to try a Holley 750hp or 850hp but damn it no one wants to let me try their's ;) Love your videos and your strait up personality. I was tempted to be that ass to give you the first thumbs down just to irritate you lol but T-up it is ---Matt

Hi from Australia! I used to run a big mighty demon on my 355 11.5 to one chev in my holden ute it was an awesome carb , very tunable and never gave me any trouble. That was over 10 years ago. It was ahead of its time. The versatility of your carbon is awesome. I'm building a budget 540 cube big block chev with a set of home ported edelbrock performer rpm heads 11.0 to comp an edelbrock victor oval port manifold and a solid roller cam with 260 and 264at 50 110 lobe separation. I was going to use an old 850 bp holley on it as I have one already or do you think I should go to a 1000 hp ? It will in a street car that is 37000 pounds. Thanks in advance.

One too many zero's or thats a mighty heavy car. If you havent bought a manifold as yet, i would choose a manifold with a dominator base and use a 950cfm dominator. The dominator being a slighty bigger base, offers better distribution to the ports. Or if you like , look at it from the other way. The intake ports have a bigger window to pull from. Just my 2cents mate.

Eric, have the race Demon RS (removable sleeve) I have configured it many different ways including the the 1.56" sleeve and annular boosters (don't make more power but allow it to meter fuel at a lower rpm/ vacuum signal that down legs will. The carb is top quality and performed flawlessly in every configuration. You're correct, Holley would not be as good as they are today if it wasn't for Barry Grant.

Burger King. Whopper. Throw the buns away. Eat 2 burgers with knife and fork. Like eating meatloaf, or steak. Then eat all the fixings as a salads, i.e. the lettuce, tomato, onions, etc. You can't beat that steak dinner for price. Better yet, go to Wendy's. Get a large chili with crackers, and baked potato with sour cream and chives. $5 total. Very healthy, delicious.

On my street strip C10 I put a race Demon 15 years ago or so on my Procharged 496 BBC and only thing was I had to run big jets to get it dialled on Dyno as I wasn’t drilling out pvcr then , I had their blow through on order as it was just coming out . When It came months later the motor was already in truck , so I swapped new blow through carb on and the AFR was 12 like I liked but with jets 80-90’s back on the day with just rolling into throttle. So I took to track and made a few half passes but promptly burnt up cylinders six and eight at the big end after one full pass . Punch line is carb was only partly machined in the main body for one Venturi and that one couldn’t flow fuel even though carb came with a quality control tag say it was A ok . I never noticed as I pulled bowls off to swap jets as the metering block stayed stuck to carb . It took about nine months to even get a warranty credit for carb . I believe Barry Grant was getting too big to fast then . Rebuilt engine with a quick fuel and it ran awesome at the 1000 hp level . Now it makes 1400 wheel hp with a 555 through a 4l80 and a nine inch turbocharged using CSU’s dual needle and seat carb so that’s why I growl when I Barry Grant . But I do like your videos a lot .👍

Road race 355 Chev. 830 annular was more driveable than my old 4779. Very wet track and use one gear up. And it grunted off those corners smooth as. And it had a choke horn! And no they are no longer available. Interestingly going to a better 23 deg cyinder head with a better intake it went down from 80 to 76 jets. And had about 40 hp more. BUT was useless under 3500. Which was the lowest the car ever used. One diff ratio lower was better and turn it harder. Using a 750HP these days on a 355 3V Clevo. Have not compared it but it seems to lack a little. A bit small for my 7000 rpm but only just. An 850 would be good for higher rpm but maybe fail on lower rpm I have seen BGs and they were crap,, though Mighty Demon was worse than a 4779. Both on the rollers and track. And sight glasses?? So we are playing with a Nikki on a Datsun?? On a race engine they are useless. Engine shakes too much at idle. Dry set the floats and forget them.

Number one best street carb for a dual plane is the street demon. I've never used one but everyone that has one rates them. If you understand how they were designed and why you realise the genius behind them. Basically some people shorten the devider in the dual plane to improve carb signal. Well this ruins low end high vac performance but improves top end. Well the street demon has a goggle valve which is mechanical secondary. So when you're on primary throats it's a pure dual plane but as the google valve opens in links the two sides in the secondary side which has it's ports placed for the single plane style signal. It's the best of both worlds.
