David is a fellow Texan, but is not an Opera singer, but he studied at Baylor College of Music, and is a Gospel singer. Check out Let Freedom Ring a Tribute to the first responders of 911, I’ll edit in the link. You also need to see No More Night, really anything he does is great. The piano player Anthony, he had a heart attack not long after this and died. It’s been a great loss for everyone.

David has been classically trained and does sing some opera songs. He is incredible and can sing anything! Tony Bennett was a huge influence in his life and tonight at his concert he paid tribute to him! And yes, Anthony Burger and David were both with the Gaither Vocal Band for several years. Anthony actually died while playing in a concert. He and David both - incredibly gifted musicians!!!

So when David first arranged this with the pianist Anthony Burger, he told him to just keep playing through the runs as he sang and not to stop until He did so that’s why Anthony kept playing. The newer versions on David’s Christmas album are the same arrangement but since Anthony sadly passed away, the piano is slightly different from this particular version.

David is not an opera singer, but a classically trained gospel/ pop singer. His live performances are usually better than studio versions of the same song, nearly flawless live. He considers himself a stylist as he sings all genres, except rap and heavy metal, although I wouldn’t put it past him. He is also a wonderful arranger and song writer. If you like jazz, check out his new song, “Song for Sinners.” It’s really beautiful with amazing vocals, even by his standard.

The pianist was the late great Anthony Burger, originally of the Kingsmen quartet. (Or as they were commonly introduced, "The mighty KINGSMEN QUARTET!") One of the premiere southern Gospel quartets 70s through the 90s. My wife briefly dated Anthony when they were young. Anthony died suddenly of a heart attack at 44.

David hits an F#5 when he sings "Nessun Dorma" (translate "No one sleeps"), from the opera "Terando". As stated by others he isn't an opera singer, but he does do a few Tenor arias from operas. You should check out the song "No More Night", too. It's not a Christmas song, but it is full of hope.

The misty eyes comes from the message. The power of this version is in the message and how God uses David's voice to convey His message of hope. Seek Him, find Him, know Him, and esp accept Him. You'll never be the same!

He was trained classically at Baylor University in Texas. He did train in Opera (Bell Canto) and his professors pushed very hard for him to go the opera route in his career, but David is a devout Christian and his history and heart was in Christian music, beginning with contemporary Christian and then moving into gospel with the Gaithers while continuing his solo career in Contemporary. You hear the Classical training, that's why you thought opera. The breathiness and some of the more pop like touches combine with his classical operatic training to make him exceedingly unique. He just released an album (Gamechanger) with all his own songs since he is an extremely talented lyricist, arranger, composer as well as vocalist. You should check out his channel on KZbin, he posts lots of his music here. I enjoyed the reaction. Thank you!

Another great Christmas Song is "NARY DID YOU KNOW". Like you were talking before, it was Co-Written, but for somewhat different reason. Mark Lowry composed it and sang it for a friend who wrote the music because Mark can't read or write music. He has a perfect ear for music and can sing almost anything. Mark I believe brought David into the Gaither Vocal Band and the Homecoming Concerts

David is not an opera singer (did I spell it correctlly?) anyhow, he is a gospel singer; and has done many albums. I am no expert; nonetheless I did, some years ago, compare this with the three tenors, one at a time, also with Mario Lanza, and everyone I could find that might sing in his league. In my opinion this was the most outstanding, and I loved Mario Lanza's voice, but to me this was the most outstanding, and surely more passionate. Thank you for playing it. As for Anthony Burger, you are welcome to your opinion, of course, but he was great. He had quite a history, with hands burned when he was little and his hands were not large at all, but he played all over the place and received many awards. Just had to tell you this.
