My Favorite Device EVER! The 2nd Gen. Fire TV BOX!

I have the same Gen2 Box and yesterday I plugged it in as I have not used it in about 1 year. I connected it to ethernet cable to my home network and went directly to the update section and started manually doing updates. I don't have any USB or Micro SD cards installed. I have about 1.5GB of free memory after all updates. Everything was working well and I even rebooted it a few times with no issues. Finally I wanted to install the Newsmax App from the Amazon Store and in the middle of installing it, the box crashed and got red text lettering on the top of the screen stating that an error had error has occurred and box should reset in a few minutes. I believe it was error 3e. Of course it did not reboot itself, so after a couple of hours I rebooted it as the screen instructed by removing power from the wall, then wait a couple of minutes and plug in again. Got the black FireTV Logo, and sometimes I get the Color Fire TV Logo with the colored swirl moving behind it. After that the screen freezes and will either stick there or reboot itself, show the black logo, then go directly back to the red text error page. I have been unable to get it to go beyond that point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try the Ctrl+Alt+Menu Button+PrtScr+i key combination at boot up to try to force it to a factory reset. It has failed every time and simply goes to the red fault screen. I'm really bummed because this was indeed a really nice FireTV Box Gen 2 device. Anyway, if you can suggest any other way to do a factory reset, I would love to hear it. I also tried the Remote Back Button + Right side ring press and hold, but they also had no effect. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

@@Chris-is-awesome No doubt. I'm tired of their cheap sticks with no memory. :( They really could put a huge dent in the market with a high end device that supports Luna and competes with the Shield better. Luna could be HUGE if they just played their cards right.

I’m blown away that they stop supporting the software updates on this powerful device but they support the fire stick light like really wtf . Have you found away to upgrade it to OS6 at all I’m pissed 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Yes. AFTVDownlader is a browser app that can download files from the internet.

Format your SD card for internal storage. You may have to wipe it first using another device like a PC or phone but wipe it and then the first time you put it back into the box it will prompt you to format for internal storage, then you can send apps to SD.

I have 3 of these 2nd Generation. One of is now stuck in "Optimization" Please wait 10 mins. Unfortunately it never changes. I tried using a keyboard connected to force Recovery mode but no luck. I was wondering if there is a way to force a new firmware on it and hope it brings it back to life.

You may be able to give it root access by jumping two pins inside. Google aftvnews firetv box root.

Wait you can't use a newer remote? I'm pretty sure you can. As a matter of fact, I use the fire stick remote for my chromecast with google tv. The extension adapter for the remote is useless unless I'm mistaken

Sure. They still work great but there are better options now. These days, they are best for emulation boxes or spare TV's/Guest rooms. The 2nd gen Cube is great too!

Yes. The Amazon controllers shown in the video use WiFi direct but, you can use any Bluetooth controller with the 2nd gen boxes, including PS4 and Xbox One controllers.

@@derrickanderson158 I'm not sure. If worst comes to worst I'd try a factory reset of the box. When the controller is in pairing mode it will have blinking white lights. If you're in the pair menu in settings and hold home for 15 seconds or so it should begin to flash and pair. Make sure you have fresh new batteries in it. That's all I can think of right now. I hope you get it.

Still a champ! I use it pretty much just for Luna these days as I finally upgraded to the Shield Pro. Shield is much more capable but, I do still have a special place in my heart for the Fire TV 2 box!

I bought a fire tv second gen box for 10$ today it is an awesome gadget I got a remote extension that has a b c volume channel but the fire tv remote slides into it. Crazy.

@@wakaflockaproject Oh, no Nvidia Shield is king! No other one can match it. If you can go for the newer generation with the 4K HDR upscaling, go for it. The Fire TV 2nd gen is the best among the other fire tv platforms, but it doesn't come close to the Nvidia shield.
