I have the same Gen2 Box and yesterday I plugged it in as I have not used it in about 1 year. I connected it to ethernet cable to my home network and went directly to the update section and started manually doing updates. I don't have any USB or Micro SD cards installed. I have about 1.5GB of free memory after all updates. Everything was working well and I even rebooted it a few times with no issues. Finally I wanted to install the Newsmax App from the Amazon Store and in the middle of installing it, the box crashed and got red text lettering on the top of the screen stating that an error had error has occurred and box should reset in a few minutes. I believe it was error 3e. Of course it did not reboot itself, so after a couple of hours I rebooted it as the screen instructed by removing power from the wall, then wait a couple of minutes and plug in again. Got the black FireTV Logo, and sometimes I get the Color Fire TV Logo with the colored swirl moving behind it. After that the screen freezes and will either stick there or reboot itself, show the black logo, then go directly back to the red text error page. I have been unable to get it to go beyond that point. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I did try the Ctrl+Alt+Menu Button+PrtScr+i key combination at boot up to try to force it to a factory reset. It has failed every time and simply goes to the red fault screen. I'm really bummed because this was indeed a really nice FireTV Box Gen 2 device. Anyway, if you can suggest any other way to do a factory reset, I would love to hear it. I also tried the Remote Back Button + Right side ring press and hold, but they also had no effect. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

By far the best of the Amazon Fire devices. All the sticks suck and the Cube is too expensive for what it is. These can be had all day on Ebay for about $25 and they're hands down the best. The knock is that it's getting a little dated in 2023. The 2GB of RAM is pretty standard but it's LPDDR2, IIRC. Maybe DDR3 but that's still not enough to keep the user from getting stutters and crashes every so often. It also topped out at Android 5 so some apps just don't work or you have to find the older versions of the apps to sideload. The 8GB storage was never enough so, yes, add an SD card or USB stick for more storage but no other Amazon device even has an SD Card slot built in. I have a 256GB SD card in mine. KODI is the MAIN reason why this device needs a bit more RAM. It runs just a bit too poorly at times when just 3 or 4GB would crush it. It definitely works but it's pushing it as the FireTV is basically only giving apps 500GB to work with that it has to constantly swap, unload, load, etc. Still, by far the best Amazon TV device to this day and it was made in...what, 2014? 2015?

I have 3 of these 2nd Generation. One of is now stuck in "Optimization" Please wait 10 mins. Unfortunately it never changes. I tried using a keyboard connected to force Recovery mode but no luck. I was wondering if there is a way to force a new firmware on it and hope it brings it back to life.

Wait you can't use a newer remote? I'm pretty sure you can. As a matter of fact, I use the fire stick remote for my chromecast with google tv. The extension adapter for the remote is useless unless I'm mistaken

Dig is so incredibly easy to use. I also love how easy it is to customize it the way you want without having to hook your device up to a PC and finding the Image folders and copying over images with the same name, saves a lot of work and time.
