Nice collection! And quite courageous to list the 18-55 as favorite😀. My personal list: 1) 10-24 mm f/4.0 2) 16-55 mm f/2.8 3) 23mm f/1.4 4) 55-200 mm or the 50mm f/2.0; still on the edge over that one…

After more then 10 years with Canon, being both a photographer and a videographer, I fell in love with the X-S10 and made the switch, buying it with the xf18-55mm and it's truly a great lens! A few weeks ago I also bought the Fringer EF-XF adapter and now I can happily use my 50mm, 100mm macro and 10-18mm also on Fujifilm!
@Cahejo2 жыл бұрын
The EF-XF adapter is quite something. Had a guy come in the store I'm working at needing a lenscoat for his Canon 600mm f/4. It was mounted on a fujifilm X-T3 with an 2x extender. Insane stuff and it worked really well to my surprise. You made a good decision using the EF-XF to get the most out of the lenses you already owned!
@Secoutal3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree on the 16-55 and 50-140. Its so insane that with just two lenses you can cover such a wide focal range with such high quality. Macro is not for everyone, but the 80mm image quality is really amazing. It is not without fault, but I have taken some of my favorite photos with it. Similarly the 56 f1.2 is a bit quirky (autofocus is a little slow), but I call it my magic lens. Pretty much anything I shoot with it looks professional.

Great video, as always. Totally agree with you with the 18-55mm. Until before the pandemic I usually traveled a lot and no matter I'm in the bursting streets of Tokyo, climbing mountains in Sri Lanka, trying to stay calm in frantic India, enjoying Mexico, eating snacks in a Taiwanese night market or watching dolphins in Maldives, I don't like to carry heavy gear and a lot of lenses with me; the lighter, the better. The 18-55mm is the one lens I have in my camera like 90% of the time; it gives me enough quality, it's fast enough, has nice OIS, and it's relatively light and compact. An overall winner for my personal needs.
@TheSshadow73 жыл бұрын
For the first time, I have to disagree. The 16mm 1.4 and the 16-55mm 2.8. You compared them as if for $200 more, you get the same 16mm plus the zoom of 55mm. True regarding focal length. However, you're also getting f2.8 instead of f1.4. I took family video indoors at 1.4 and those extra stops gave me the extra light I needed to keep the ISO reasonable. The light at f2.8 wasn't coming close to cutting it. Outdoors, you don't need f1.4. But indoors, that's another story. Also, low light street photography, plus many other times too. Just my 2 cents.

I think you are wrong. He is definitely right. At least for people that are not living from photography, 16-55 is all they need. Seriously now, its the most worth it bundle. But again, As I said this goes for most people because most of them are not really professionals and this is a hobby. However, some people do like to have only one prime and surprisingly they like 16 mm. In that case, yes it makes sense. But I think Most people would prefer a zoom and sticking with 2.8 .
@ronmasters7513 жыл бұрын
Of course it depends also on what you like to shoot. I’m over the moon for the new 70-300mm. I’m prioritizing light over light; ie, small over fast. With 5 stops of IBIS in the X-S10, it hasn’t disappointed.
@davidbridenstine63583 жыл бұрын
Took the 18-135mm and the 16mm to Venice. The 18-135 accounted for 90+% of around 1400 shots. Great travel lens. So much of composition is the decision of what to exclude. The zoom makes it so much easier. And in terms of viewing prints, you'd be hard pressed to care that the 16 was superior.

I bought the 90mm f2 a while ago, but never got around to using it because I was shooting so many portraits indoors and didn't have the space to work with. But when I shot some outdoors portraits with it, I didn't want to put it down. The quality is amazing and the focus speed is ridiculous. I don't think the 50mm f2 gets the love that it deserves: for the size, cost, quality, and focus speed, it is hard to beat. No matter what I am shooting or how light I am trying to make my gear bag, the 50mm f2 is always included. In fact, all of the f2 lenses are amazing in my opinion - they are so compact, I can get lots of them into my sling bag and not have to compromise on variety. I only have three lenses on my Fuji Lens Mt. Rushmore: 90mm f2, 50mm f2, and the 18-55 'kit lens', but there is a battle royale for that fourth spot between the 35mm f2, the 23mm f2, and the 16-80 f4.

In a prior life when I was shooting Canon their 135L f2 prime was my favorite lens by far (of any system). Fast, beautiful bokeh, amazing color rendering, and that extra *something* that I can’t describe but it was just there in every image. So when I migrated to the Fuji system, and saw they had a 90 f2, I was like “I’m sure it’s good, but it won’t be the Canon 135.” Well, how wrong was I was! I picked up the Fuji 90 about a week after I got into the ecosystem and it’s exceeded all my expectations. In my opinion it rivals Canon’s legendary 135 easily. Agreed on the 16-55 as well. It’s a phenomenal lens that continues to surprise me with how sharp it is across the range. Side note: the Anker spot felt like it was part of your video - meaning it didn’t *feel* like a sponsored ad - and that’s good thing! It kept me engaged the whole way through! Another great video Chris!

I believe that not all 16-80s are the same! I preferred the latter for the 16-55 at the expense of the 2.8 constant brightness. The images I get with the 16-80 are really excellent, it doesn't make me expect more from a full zoom. The mirrorless were born for many factors, but also for their easy portability, so the 16-80 remains within the limits. An XT4 with the 16-55 is like wearing a DSRL back breaker. So it makes little sense in travel photos, and a lot for studio shots! The only thing I feel like criticizing at the 16-80 is the slight noise, hiss or hum of the stabilizer. perceptible when the ear is placed. For the rest I find it unfair not to mention it by several reviewers!

How does everyone feel about the 8-16mm. Maybe it’s my honorable mention. Agreed it is bulky but....stepped down I find no Lack of definition. I purchased it on COVID sale $1500 and have to remind you it is a red badge. Expensive but build is obviously excellent. Fuji gives all of us so many options based on our individual shooting needs and all lenses are quality with various trade offs. The 8 mm is extreme in a good way if you don’t pixel peep the corners. I find it a very challenging lens as you can distort easily, takes a bit of practice but I like wide angles sometimes. I close focus my 16 mm 1.4 often and street with it. Sweet spot. Congratulations on your increased subs, you deserve it as your hard work and positive influence keeps us excited to return. Thanks again.

Love these videos. I'm still just alternating between my 56mm f1.2 and my 14mm f2.8, so my REAL lens needs are never fulfilled (because I need something in the middle!) Keeps me very interested in lens solutions!

Hey from Australia! I have shot every brand and format of camera system from 35mm to 4" x 5" for commercial, architectural, fine art portrait, scientific, medical and technical work in my businesses since 1973. The ONLY optic that I REALLY want from Fujifilm is a basic Fujinon 40mm f/2.8 macro lens with flat field coverage for reprographic work and a 1:1 magnification capability. I have to keep using my horrible plastic Nikkor 40mm Micro-Nikkor G lens on an adapter!

Great video on lens variety as I'm a new XT3 owner. Got the 16-80 f4 lens for the all in one elements for my specific needs, but I will be in the market down the road to supplement. The plug at the end was a bit of a turn off as much longer than most sites, but glad I found this channel.

I hate when I hear some so called pro photographers denigrate the 18-55 XF as a lens only fit for amateurs. For me, it’s an essential, I simply couldn’t imagine my life as a Fuji photographer without it. Yes, it’s a kit lens but only the pixel peeping snobs with more money than sense would give this lens the bums rush. I like to travel fast and light ( which means I have limited real estate in my kit bag) and this lens together with my XF 10-24 and XF 60mm Mac does everything I need it to do with my X-Pro bodies. Of the three, the 18-55 is king!

I really like your channel but in my opinion 2 lenses really need to be mentioned. The 35 1.4 because of its phenomenal image quality and the 60 2.4 because of its nice bokeh and sharpness at 2.4 (portrait!) And the ability to do macro, even if only 2:1 with the crazy low weight / size! Greetings from Bavaria

The 18-55 is not a kit lens. It's just that you get a $300 discount (almost 1/2 price) if purchased with the camera body. The stand alone price is not a kit price. The same goes for the 16-80, $300 discount if purchased with the body. In almost all cases it's a mistake to not buy one of these lenses, especially the 18-55, with a new body if you don't already have one. The exception would be if you already have your favorite lenses in hand.

16-80 is my only lens, not the best but incredible quality for a 5:1 zoom

I have been shooting Fuji for many years now and I have tried quite a few lenses. In my opinion nearly all of their lenses are excellent in terms of image quality. I finally concluded I prefer the versatility of zoom lenses and less weight so I now primarily use the 10-24, 18-55 and 55-200 lenses. I also am using the 35mm (2.0). My favorite lens is the 18-55.

My fav line up would be 14/2.8, 23/1.4, 35/1.4 and 56/1.2. I could omit the 35 at a pinch, but the rest are awesome. 14mm for landscape and architecture off a tripod so 2.8 is fine. 23mm is a great focal length for family and life day to day stuff. 35mm is a general all purpose do everything lens for me, take a step forward or backwards and encroach on 23/56 territory. 56mm is a beautiful piece of glass, a bit slow to focus but offset by the image quality it produces. All my choices are for what I shoot my Fuji camera’s for, which is when I grab my bag to have a lightweight system for family for days out when I don’t want a heavy system on me. Years ago I used to carry a Sigma 10-20, Canon 16-55/2.8, Canon 100-400 and a steel Manfrotto tripod. That set up was so heavy I would rarely get any pics due to the sheer hassle of getting such a big and heavy backpack off and getting the correct focal length lens I wanted. I then got a Fuji X-Pro1 followed by the X-T1 with their 18/35/56 lens line up. A carbon fibre Manfrotto BeFree tripod and a small shoulder bag and I was good to go. The results of that was many many more photos on a day out, with the IQ of the Canon 5D3 which was out at the time. I now have an R6 but the X-T1 still holds its own against the FF. The X-Pro1 has been regulated to my work car with the 18/2 as my landscape set up as I drive between jobs.

Great video! Great lenses! Enough can’t be said about that kit lens! The anker hubs are great I use them but I think they need to get a better handle on heat. Mine gets so hot!!! And I replaced it and it’s still hot. But it’s working so no complaints on functionality

Fuji doesn't make bad lenses as the saying goes. My favorites tend to be the XF 18-55 and XF 35. Thanks for this great video!

You know, I’ve been using the 18-55 for the last hour or so for the first time. It’s not that bad so far. Not sure why it’s even called a “kit lens” when it’s an XF lens, as opposed to the lesser 15-45 f/3.5 - 5.6 XC lens, which has a plastic mount and no aperture ring. I’ve never used it, but I would assume that to be more of a kit lens.

The only thing I wish the 18-55mm had is weather resistance, but for video it's soooooo good

So true, the 90mm f2 is so unbelievable good, if not the best lens I’ve ever used.

I traded in my "kit lens" for the 16-80 F. 4.0. I only shoot video, and I really prefer the 24mm to 120 full frame range. For me it's much more versatile than the older kit lens. Stabe is very good, and the image is very sharp with very kind bokeh. These lenses you seem to be promoting here are mostly good for photography, but not for run and gun video---which is what I do most of the time (99% of the time). So, mostly what I use are Fuji Zooms. They allow me to get some shots I'd never be able to get otherwise. fit the punishment with the crime...

I enjoyed this video. The 90mm f2 has been on my wish list for quite a while. I bought the XF16-80 lens because I like having the slightly longer reach at 80mm, and it performs pretty well, but I wish I bought the 16-55 instead. It looks sharper than my 16-80. I also appreciate you mentioning the 18-55 kit lens for video.
