You have such an epic garden. My favorite heirloom tomatoes are Black Krim and Cherokee Purple. They're lovely and I grow them each year. Also... To get maximum flavor from your heirlooms, give them a sprinkle of kosher salt before you eat then. Really elevates the flavor.

Beautiful garden. Only thing about heirlooms is they are true to variety they came from unless you cross pollinate them. That’s why I buy all heirloom seeds on line to make sure I get what’s on the picture:)
@dimitriosandreadis63604 жыл бұрын
Nice varieties. Btw try the "dry farming " method. The moisture in your mulch-bed is enough and youn don't have to water them. The flavor will become even better.

Your vines are so healthy! I still can’t get over how well they do outside and how prolific they are. @@Doǵs_Bone I want delicious tasting heirloom tomatoes... If they crack or split but give me delicious flavor, that's what I want. @aletheist27094 жыл бұрын
@@rajeshviswanathan2764 I had trouble with fruit set on my Cherokee Purple this year. When watching my garden, it seemed all the pollinators preferred other flowers. I would often see hover flies pollinating a volunteer plum plant close by. When I used an electric toothbrush on them later in the season, I think it increased my fruit set. I can't wait to try this method from the start next year.
@rajeshviswanathan27644 жыл бұрын
@@aletheist2709 Exactly what I was planning on doing next year as well! Electric toothbrush is the way to go. How do you ensure more flowers come out? Use a fertilizer with more P and K ?
@aletheist27094 жыл бұрын
@@rajeshviswanathan2764 I'm a pretty novice gardener. I don't have much experience adding NPK with a fertilizer. I was using in ground composting and amended some of my soil with a store bought garden soil and didn't have much trouble with flower production. I think I had enough NPK as the plants look great, the flowers look great, and the tomatoes that set look great. It was just fruit setting on the Cherokee's that was an issue. Early on, I got like a 10-20 percent fruit set. My plum tomato a few feet away had almost every flower set with no intervention. The plum vine is much more flexible, so I wonder if it gets wind pollinated easier too.
