"...and since you're the next generation, and even more since you're my son" thats one thing I love about Mufasa's character. He didn't care about power. He took it as a very important duty and it seemed he cared much more for his son than for the throne. It kinda shows at certain points: when he stops listening to Zazu so he can play with Simba and teach him to pounce, when he would play and laught with him instead of enforce a tight squelude, when he seemed to feel guilty when Simba got into trouble becouse he hadn't been as firm as he could have. He was a great king, but he was a good father first.

You know speaking from a realistic standpoint. We alll know irl royals do care about thier kids (even if they dont really love their spouses since most royals were put into arranged marriages) but they couldn't show it outwardly because all eyes are always on them and there were standards to they had to uphold but im glad Mufasa didnt let him and simba and sarabi being royals get in the way of him showing his love for his family.

in the wild (if that’s what you are referring to) males sometimes have killed their own cubs by being too rough, or older siblings accidentally killing them/purposely killing them. That is why the female lions will mostly birth away from the pride and keep them hidden until they are old enough to meet the rest of the pride. Of course not all males/lion pride members are the same, they have unique personality’s. Lions are just complex on a interesting level

The reprise of “Be Prepared” is masterful, I wish they had kept it! The feeling of dread as Scar announces his intentions and the looks on the lioness’ faces as the hyenas emerge; plus seeing Nala’s banishment as she refuses to be Scar’s queen, it ties everything together so much better than her just appearing to Simba in the jungle and saying, “I left to find help”. We get to see how bad things really got in the Pridelands.

I love these because it really highlights how amazing the movie is. Like every choice they made, every cut, was such a good choice. Can you imagine if the iconic circle of life intro was interrupted by a lighthearted comedic Zazu bit? Or if Mufasa’s strong silent mystical energy was lessened with a cute little song instead of a impactful serious monologue? Like wow every little change really was the right choice. I love all these clips but I’ve gotta say I don’t prefer them to the movie itself, so cool to be able to compare

And Nala suddenly deciding to stay in the jungle instead of expecting Simba to come back. If it happened like in the deleted scene, it would have made her feel a lot more selfish, and also Simba would have changed his mind without having had the sense knocked into him, metaphorically by Nala and literally by Rafiki. These looks behind the scenes are fascinating but it makes me really appreciate how well constructed the final movie is

Not only that, but changing the perspective of Rafiki was a smart move. In the deleted scene, the animals glare and he's seen as a "lunatic." In the final film, he is a respected shaman and the other animals part before him to let him approach. That gives his odd ritual a more mysterious and sacred vibe to it.

Not sure I dig that song, but I like them talking about the responsibility of being king. In the release version, everyone gloms onto Simba saying "I can do whatever I want" when he's an immature kid and don't notice when Scar says it later. Scar's a bad king because he's immature, selfish, and doesn't do his duty, not just because he cut in line for the throne.

I like how "Be prepared" originaly was going to be mainly the hyenas singing. Making the hyenas more evil/the bad guys than what they actually are in the movie. I mean i do not see them to be evil. They just decided to follow a leader that spited out a lot of promises that he never could give to them. They eventually saw his lies and went agains him making him to expire.

I like how Scar's design in the drafts resembles Kovu a little bit, his mane is not slicked back. I also like how Nala was originally meant to stay with the guys in hakuna matata paradise instead of convincing Simba to come back, totally opposite intentions compared to the movie, maybe the only thing I wish they kept in. Simba making that decision on its own instead of being convinced to come back would've been better.

Its so amazing to see this kind of work. Thats why I love dvds so much, they had a lot of this stuff. You can see what ideas they expanded and left behind, and just how much editing goes into refining scenes and story beats. Even the sound of the music--not just the songs, but the background music itself and what instruments being showcased and expanded on. I wonder how long it takes to decide the general soundscape in these kinda of movies, its really amazing stuff, thank you! Love that alt prepared scene too!

Тот факт, что Симба хотел вернутся, а Нале было в кайф оставаться в оазисе - более логично выглядит в сюжете. Я никогда не понимала какую такую помощь сорвалась искать Нала, не зная что Симба все еще живой. Плюс, в первом изначальном варианте сценария до нее домогался Шрам. Конечно же она уйдет в эмиграцию 😅 В итоговом варианте сценария: «я ушла за помощью и нашла тебя, Симба. Так что ноги в руки и побежал кабанчиком биться за свой трон». И вся инициатива вернуться исходит от нее, пока мужику палкой по голове не настучали. Я такую позицию Симбы тоже понимаю, но это делает его немного мудаком: «я понимаю, что у вас там все плохо, ты, Нала, вернешься домой но у меня тут Акуна Матата, так что я отсужусь в оазисе пока не увижу призрак свое отца и наставление от обезьяны».
