Here is my list of my top 8 massage tools I enjoy using in my practice. Tools are very helpful in massage therapy not only for giving massages, they also help keep your hands in good working condition. We only get one pair so we got to keep them in tick tock shape as long as possible. You can find my #1 massage therapy tool on my website, www.massagetherapeutics915.com/
Help your hands! Start incorporating tools in your own practice. Go out and create a good day!
What is your favorite tool? Share in the comments. I am curious to know.
Also, take the poll! The poll pops up at the 10 minute mark. Let me know which tool you all would like to see used in a future video. Thank you for participating and help build this community!
*These videos are informational only. Techniques must be applied by certified professional massage therapist.*

I received a comment from a viewer who has concerns about cupping not being healthy. I’m sure there are many variables to this statement & many who would disagree. There are Chinese records of cupping as old as 3,000 yrs ago. The Egyptians also used cupping as did our father of medicine Hippocrates. There’s always a controversial view & I respect that. My videos are for informational purposes only. I make these videos with the best intentions. You are welcome to double check or do your own research. I always encourage students to do so. I do make mistakes especially when I’m talking too fast, lol, or because I don’t know it all. I’m a supporter of Chinese medicine because of my many yrs of studying Tai Chi. There’s no scientific proof that it works nor is there scientific proof that it doesn’t. You choose.

Massage Therapeutics my clients rant and rave about cupping and how relieved they feel afterwards. I utilize sliding of the cups rather than stationary cupping. In support of cupping, the benefit is better than deep tissue which many of my clients cannot tolerate and cupping is a great substitute! Just make sure you all have plenty of slip as to not pull or pinch when sliding. Gua Sha is valuable too and loved by so many as well, I also use a refrigerated rose quartz to help relieve my clients of headaches, works like a charm!

This was incredibly helpful as I am a new manual therapist who recently overworked my thumbs and developed carpal pain. I've been nursing my hand for 2 weeks now and I can see how easily I could have avoided this! Long hours of therapy session followed by excessive exercises and vibrating tools did a number on me. Rookie mistake!! I hope I can bounce back.
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 жыл бұрын
It is very unfortunate that this happened to you yet a common mistake. I’m really sorry to hear that you’re still nursing it. You should be able to get back into the manual therapy if you can make some changes. The same thing happened to me and thanks to that experience I changed my approach. I stopped using my thumbs! I changed my body mechanics, I started incorporating tools without the vibration (tool guns). It is doable and you will get back into it. It sounds like you are very good & thorough & gave your best! So now you work smarter & not harder. The trick is to assist the body to heal itself! What really helped me is learning the muscles and how they move. That way you know exactly which muscles are involved & you know their actions & lack of action if they’re hurt! You don’t need to give your blood, sweat & tears 🤣. I wish you the best & I would also look into some tools that feel right for you. I would be careful with the thumb saver. That hurt me even more because it’s hard plastic & sat right at my carpometacarpal joint. Someone shared with me when I got injured that the average lifespan of a massage therapist was only 10 years (back then) I thought my career was over. It scared me enough to change how I used my body. Still practicing after 32 years. Best of wishes for you.

I have come to love to use silicon cupping as a part of the back massage. Especially when the client is a bit jumpy or ticklish or when the fascia is really tight. It helps to relax the surface above the muscles and it is easier to do deeper work on the muscles afterwards. It has a similar effect as skin rolling, but I find scin rolling to be very streinious for my hands. Also to slide the silicon cups over the ITB and glutes has proved beneficial. Thight calves are also easier to work on after running the silicon cup.

Helene Lund Chirwa Thank you for sharing this valuable information. I need to take a class on how to use the silicon cups. They seem to break succión on me. I think it could be my hands that I don’t have the strength to squeeze them tight or I just don’t know how to use them😂. Thanks for the tips!
@audreyarbuckle9175
@audreyarbuckle9175 Жыл бұрын
@ Maria, try using an oil based lubricant when using the silicon cups dynamically. The trick is lubrication, otherwise the cups will pop off. You'll want just enough suction that the skin is raised and can be seen inside the cup. Thank you for everything you're giving and doing for our profession! ❤

Karen Harvey. You are welcome. I use the 500mg deep tissue massage cream for myself. I also use either the 200 or 500 on clients. It is an upgrade for clients so I charge $10.00 extra to use it on them or they can buy the jar & take it home when I’m done. Another think that has saved my thumbs is using the Lbars. I use that for trigger points & flat surface pressure. I hope this helps you. If you want the Lacuna Botanicals that I use you can go to my store massagetherapeutics915.com

Mai thank you for the feedback. I’m not sure What you mean by depths of massage & lengths. When I work on someone with an injury I usually spend the 60 min on that specific area. I treat all related muscles agonist, antagonist, synergist & stabilizers. I usually do supine, prone & sideline so that takes the whole hour. I work the same muscle from different angles. I use the scale from 1-10 for pain reference & stay within a 5-6. I hope that answers your question 😀

I am thoroughly enjoying your channel since I found it a few weeks back. I have been hesitant to use tools other than medi-cupping because I am not sure how it will feel to the client and worried they may think I am "taking the easy way out." I am going to start incorporating them though because it just sounds smart especially since I started my massage career at 55 years old and 2 years later I am already feeling it in my hands. Wonder about the brush you used on the scalp that I saw in one of your videos that looked awesome and wondering what that was? Thanks again! 🙏
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 3 жыл бұрын
Congrats to you Melissa for starting your massage career. I felt the same way about using tools! From my experience clients like the tools as long as you don’t spend too much time away from their hands on. I usually only do 5-10 incorporating the tools. Taking care of your hands is important because they do start to hurt! Mine did & I thought I was going to have to retire! I cut back on massaging & worked smarter not harder. Maybe you can have about 3 tools & give your client the choice of which one they would like for you to use for 5-10 min. I use a scalp massager on certain clients. It’s a soft plastic that can be washed after each use. It’s important to have washable tools. I also used the scalp scratcher that looks like a spider on their scalp. That’s good for asmr & tingles! Good luck to you & take care of your hands 🙌🏽

I have been treating for a over 10 years now. I have never used tools in my treatments, but have just recently been considering it to save my body a little. How would/did you introduce the use of tools to your long standing clients that have always known you too only use your hands?
@MassageTherapeutics915
@MassageTherapeutics915 5 жыл бұрын
Charlie Heywood this is a great question. This is exactly what happened to me so I approached it by explaining to my standing clients that I was incorporating new tools for their benefit & mine. Win/win situation) depending on the tool I explained the benefits to them. If your clients have been with you for a long time that tells me they really like you so most will be willing to work with you & even let you practice on them. You can explain to them that you’ve taken a class or done research or whatever you’ve done to be able to use these new techniques. I’m sure they’ll comply and the ones that don’t like it will let you know. Best of luck & remember that taking care of yourself is 1st so you can continue giving the best part of you.

Senaida Koeyers I think it has to do with how long you leave on the skin. No more than 2-3 min. The longer you leave on the skin the more vasodilation that’s created but not more than 3 min! It will work wether you can see the color or not. I’m not an expert on this so you might want to take a class on cupping.
