THANKS! I learned how to position the obelisk and the rose! I would have put the rose in the middle!

These are the only obelisks I use. I use them for roses, clematis, even my tomatoes. It's the only obelisks that supports massive weight. My Crown Margherite is huge and it's fine. I've had these since 2010 - 13 years and counting!

@@TheRoseGeek it’s so funny.. the roots were totally rain drenched.. so i started planting them straight away .. but had to ring Trevor white as 2 packs of rootgrow was not in there.. i said to him they just arrived 5 mins. ago & i’m already planting them , he couldn’t stop laugh.. they are most healthiest i’ve ever seen.. no gall & he said .. it’s not raining there?.. we’ve had 100 % rain everyday for last 2 wks…so i’ve just laid out the rest for rain to soak them for tonight & planted 2 in each..9 planted already ( 1 in a tall 27cm pot)others 30 cms .. had enough window before rain started again

I’ve never heard of planting the rose NEXT TO the support - which is great since I’m buying supports for roses that are already 5-7 feet tall. Can’t wait for that video!

Watching you put that together was WAY BETTER than reading ANY instructions hahaha!! I am not fond of reading instructions. It looks really strong. Now I want one. I have always used the flat trellises but it’s never enough for my climbers. This obelisk looks much better! Thank you 🥰❤️

@@TheRoseGeek …. I have no doubt I could put it together in a flash after watching you 🥰😁. And I DID buy one. They have an Amazon store and I bought it from Amazon with free shipping. Yay!!

@@TheRoseGeek … Amazon shows it coming Tuesday and I sure will give you my thoughts on the instructions. But I assure you I will refer back to your video to get the job done! I was shocked you actually received ALL the screws. I usually get shorted and have to dig in my husbands stash to find something that works. I am getting so excited about spring. I have a Lady of Shallot (David Austin) rose that I was thinking about using on the obelisk. It acts like a pretty good climber and the roses are the most lovely color. What do you think about that one on the obelisk???

Very timely video!!! I’m planting a strawberry hill this spring and will train it into an obelisk, I would love to see how you place the obelisk, since I was thinking to place it right on top as you said not to 😆

This video just saved me from making a big mistake! I was thinking I’d just put the obelisk on top of my rose! Not even thinking about planting it on the side (which makes total sense 😆). Love that I always learn something from your videos. I’ve missed watching them over the past two months as life got in the way, but I’m catching up this morning.

I have Clematis growing in obelisk, trellises and arch in my garden but only one small climbing rose. I cannot deny tall climbing roses is out of my comfort zone. I will love more videos about it, specially how to use properly an obelisk...I am one of those people that put the obelisk on top of the rose, no next to it :)

Your obelisks look great and I can just imagine how pretty they will look when the climber roses grow around them! I have ordered A Shropshire Lad and Eden and thinking of training them around trellises. ❤️

Hi Kim , I am trying to decide between Mme. Figaro and Dame de Chenoceau . Can you advice which one does well in our zone 7?

Looking forward to seeing you place these. They look so pretty, and give me hope for being able to include some climbers.

Great video! Adorable helper :) I have 4 of the Plow and Hearth obelisks in varying sizes, and 2 Kinsman XL Border Tuteur. Love them. I think I prefer the P&H. They are easy to put together and seem more sturdy and look beautiful in the garden. I plant all of mine outside of the obelisk. At the time I thought I was doing it wrong because so many people plant them on the inside but that seemed like it would make it harder to do any pruning. I do wish I had thought of using Rustoleum.

Do you have a recommendation for how to train a potted rose up an obelisk? I have a few zone 5 roses that I overwinter in the garage (I am zone 4) and would love to add a zone 5 climber this year but it would all need to be easily transported.

If you do have an older rose with less than cooperative canes, would you cut all of them way back and allow new canes to grow up around the obelisk? I have a New Dawn on an arch but need a solution for several new climbers on their way this spring. I'm also wondering what to do for two ramblers which are young plants. I'm a bit worried anything short of a pergola won't work for them. One is Albertine, the other Jaune Desprez. I'm leaning toward vinyl or powder-coated steel trellis walls for them--still deciding.
@gardeningbyheart49122 жыл бұрын
@@TheRoseGeek thank you! I can’t wait to see how it goes for you! I’ve also considered trying to hide a less than beautiful back fence with a rambler. I might try that with Jaune Desprez. I’ll definitely share my final plan and pics in your group once I have some photo worthy shots!

I went to see the obelisks on the website you recommended, they are beautiful! But very expensive! The one you put together seems very solid, what brand is it? Another thing, i have a lot of Historic roses (Old Roses), more than 50 and it make me feel sad when i prune them. I throw it away because where i live i have no one to share it with. As i see you have a big garden, wouldn't you interested? I live in Europa but i can send the branches to you if you are interested and there are no entry restrictions in your country, of course. I can send you a list if you want.

This obelisk is from Plow and Hearth. You are so kind to offer to share. I have so many roses that I am finally running out of room in my garden. By chance are you on Facebook? We have the Rose Geeks Facebook and Rose Geeks Propagation. The propagation page shares cuttings and I am hoping we can connect you with someone there near your location. I am sure they would love to share cuttings. This is the link to the Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/466906841645394
