As you know, I have many roses in my garden grow into climber due to the high heat and long growing season in my climate. Obelisk is the best way to retain these monster and display their beauty at the same time. Today, I am showing you how I install the obelisk in the pot and train my roses on it. Hope it helps and feel free to ask me any question in the comment section.
Link below is the obelisk I used in the video:

Thank you for your clear and succint advice! I was able to follow you pretty well😊❤🎉 One question: It seemed you wrapped about half the canes to the left and the rest of the canes to the right. Is this correct? 😮 Or did you wrapped all the canes in the same direction? I wiuld really appreciate your input. Thank you 😊

Great video Seng! How long can you keep a climber in a pot like yours before it grows too big for the pot? What pot size do you recommend for climbers grown in pots? Will it need to be repotted after some point? I would love to grow more climbers if I can train them like this. I just worry I will have to repot it after a few years. Thank you for your help.

Love this! Thanks for sharing. I have a question though….is it better to wait and let the canes grow out and then tie them back? I have a Lady of Shalott that I planted with a Obelisk but I started training her very very young and her canes seem to be thin and week, could it be because I didn’t let her grow freely at first?
@backyardparadise2334
@backyardparadise2334 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You should let it flop and let the new strong canes grow out. When you let the canes flop, it will send the message to the plant that they don't get enough light and so they will send out more stronger canes to reach for the sun.

@@backyardparadise2334 yep, she’s own root. I usually buy bare root, they seem to do better here. I have 3 own root, purchased at same time and they all look weak. Gardening is definitely a learning process.

@@cynthiar3407 I prefer grafted on multiflora or fortunania root stock as well. Not all the roses will grow well on own root in our very hot and humid climate especially English garden rose. The difference between own root and grafted in terms of vigorous and health is huge! But sometimes, when there is no choice, I will still get own root and start them from 3 gallons pot then 5 gallons than plant in the permanent spot. It is all about developing that root ball at the first year so it will be strong enough to fight with my weather here.

Thanks a lot for this video Seng! Do you think we can use this obelisk for shropshire lad or barok rose? I’m planning to plant them in a half whiskey barrel. Do you think it’s a good idea? 😁
@backyardparadise2334

Barock can throw really long, stiff canes. So, might not be ideal with the obelisk. I do not have Shropshire Lad. But I think no harm to try. They will do well in the whiskey barrel.
