The capacity for having up to 8-players seems incredible in those days but it seems like the only games that took advantage where sports games, seems typical

Thanks again for this video. I recently bought a few multitaps to try with my PS2 so I wanted to share a few things I learned: 1. PS2 multitaps don't seem to work unless they're plugged into port 1, and in my testing they need to be plugged in before the game boots. If you're booting a game with OPL, you probably need the memory card and controller in port 1 to boot OPL, so once you're in OPL, switch it up before actually booting the game. 2. PS1 multitaps for PS1 games need to be plugged into controller port 2 on the PS2 in order to work, so controller 1 should be directly plugged into controller port 1. 3. It is possible to buy a multitap that works for both PS1 and PS2 games on a fat PS2 (mine is a 50001). I bought the GameStop branded one that advertises being compatible with both consoles. Its memory card input can rotate around in order to *not* plug in for PS1 games. Like I stated above, it needs to be in port 1 for PS2 games, and in port 2 for PS1 games. And I was able to use PS2 DualShock controllers when playing PS1 games, so that's better than the standard PS1 multitap.

Vibration work wrong on multitap ps1, if you play or ps2 controller(gamepad).

Hi there, I have a ps1/ps2 controller adapter to USB that i connect to play in my pc. Do you happen to know if I connect the PS1 multitap to pc, all my four controllers would be detected? Many thanks

@@Hgd24478 I'm not sure! If you have documentation for your adapter, I would see if there's any mention whether multitaps are supported. I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work, though. I think the adapter itself would need to be able to identify the multitap, adapt its data sampling methods to support it, and have the ability to provide power to up to 4 controllers and memory cards.

Would love it if someone could confirm how it works when playing 4 player PS1 and PS2 games on a PS3 with wireless ps3 controllers works? Is this just a PS3 fat with physical disk versions of PS1 and PS2 games that can do this? Or can you also do this with PS3 slim and backups of PS1 and PS2 games on a modified PS3 slim with 4x PS3 controllers

In the video, I confirm this works with physical PS1 games on a PS3 Super Slim. I would imagine it works similarly with PS2 games, although I don't have any PS2 Classics or a PS3 original model to confirm that. If playing PS1 and PS2 backups uses the same interface as playing a real disk does on PS3, then that should also be possible, but I can't confirm this personally.

I'm asking as even though I have a PS5 I would like a slim PS3 just to play my favourite old PS1 and PS2 4 player games when I have friends over and would be great if I could do this without having to buy two different multi tabs and consoles.

@@timbaker5353 I believe that some other PS3 models can play physical PS2 games. Some models have the actual PS2 hardware on the motherboard, and some play physical PS2 games via emulation (possibly a mix of hardware and software, but that's a little beyond my understanding). All PS3 consoles can play physical PS1 games, from what I know. A PS3 would be a great solution for your needs - I would recommend doing some research on the various models and their capabilities as far as physical PS2 games go before making a purchase, but I think you're on the right track.

Unfortunately not; you need a PS2 multitap to play compatible PS2 games.

Sure! For that series, you'd want the redesigned multitap - model number SCPH-70120.

Hi there! The PS1 multitap only works for PS1 games when used with a PS2. It will not work for PS2 games which use a multitap - those require the PS2 multitap. I hope that helps!

Hey broski! Love your account and love your video, was hoping you could help me out. I just purchased a PowerWave Multitap for my PS2 slim, however upon using it, my console makes a really loud noise and crashes, does not turn on and aways automatically turns off, so I assume its a power issue? I thought maybe it was the wrong multitap so what would you suggest? My PS2 slim model is SCPH-90002, with a 1.40 browser (whatever this means haha), so there is a high chance this multitap requires too much power for such console as it soundss like a spaceship taking off? Im hoping you can help recommend, thank you!!

Hey there, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! It's hard to know for certain, but it sounds like there's an issue with the multitap itself if the PS2 works fine without it. I'm having a hard time finding an example of your specific multitap, but I know some third party versions require extra power via an external adapter. Is it possible yours needs one and is missing it? If not, it's probably worth opening the multitap up to find and diagnose whatever could be wrong with it. Best of luck to you, hopefully you can find the root cause!

@@RestoreRevise Thank you for you’re response! External adapter? The multitap has an non removable chord which plugs into the controller port, as well as 4 slots for controllers and 1 memory card slot, would there be a way to add power via one of those slots perhaps?

@@michael.christo4824 It doesn't sound like it from what you've shared with me. My guess is that there's a problem with the multitap itself, like one of the components inside it has failed or is malfunctioning.

How do you know the fat PS2 multitap doesn't support PS1 games ? The wikipedia page on multitaps implies that it does support PS1 games.

I've tested it myself. At 0:48, you can see that I'm playing CTR on my original model PS2 with the matching multitap and the game doesn't detect anything aside from player 1's controller, while switching the multitap to one for the PS1 will make the game recognize all 4 controllers.

@@BenWiley4000 You're welcome! I didn't try them for this video, but my understanding is that Dualshock 2 controllers do not work with a PS1 multitap, even though they'll work when connected directly to the console. Original PlayStation controllers work just fine in a PS2 multitap, though.

Ooh like the cat, btw subbed for this video.. plus mever knew up to 8 if using or countign bc mode on a ps3 is possoble fkr up to 8 players vs 7 for ps3 as the 8th node of bluetooth is fwiw well the console as the thign that the first 7 bts connect to. Via emulation/virtual multi taps.
