I love to see alternative repair methods as long as the machine doesn't get scraped. That being said, IF it breaks again. Take it completely apart and send it out to a shop that specializes in repairs like this. Yes, it costs more money and down time. Yes, it isn't as fruitful as you are not the one doing the work. However, a repair done by a specialist far out performs almost anything you can do in your own shop. Things like knowing the exact metallurgical content of the material, penetrant testing for secondary cracks, ovens for pre/post heating, tempering and secondary treatment, and remachining all make huge improvements in longevity. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the DIY repair, but ya got to know when to do it and when to send it.

If you need a profile pattern for the break, I have a friend with a number one. We could get you a tracing of the outside of it and a measurement of the width. It wouldn't be that hard to mill up one.

Oh... I have a #1 that I need to rebuild. Don't have the cracked body problem, but everything else needs work... Spring looks to be the hardest to figure out. I need a completely new one.

I'm told there's a spring shop up north in Wisconsin or Michigan that can remake them. The main spring is a problem
