I'm so excited to share some of my FAVORITE Shades EQ toners that make beautiful hair color! Ever wondered what the numbers on the bottles really mean? I explain it here!
Shades EQ is a Demi permanent hair color line. That means it rinses very easily and won't directly deposit into your hair so it easily lifts out if you want to change it again.
Here's a direct link to the Shades EQ chart so you can look at every shade:
www.redkensalo...
Here are some of my favorite toning combos:
Icy, natural blonde:
9V, 9N, 9T equal parts with Shades EQ developer.
Sandy Medium Blonde:
2 ounces of 8N equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Perfect root color or transition color for color melting:
7NB + 6N with equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Transition color for color melting:
6GB + equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Pretty, but also rich and warm brunette:
5NW + equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Neutral brunette, looks good on every skin tone:
4NB + equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Deep plum brunette shade (I love a brunette with a hint of plum in it):
3V + equal parts Shades EQ processing solution
Adding clear to any of these shades will make them deposit less on your hair and makes the tone less pigmented. Once you add clear you also have to add processing solution. That's the only way the color will deposit!
Thank you so much for watching! Please write me on Instagram @DaniellaBenita if you have any questions!

They won't give you advice because they are frightened of someone getting their formulas but they can't do everyone's hair so well done to this channel the stylist obviously is confident in her ability and should be too. I think she would make a great educational tutor because she explained everything as if you had never used the products or done training. And that's what we need not everyone is at the same level I refuse to sucribe to channel that don't explain what they are using as I think its supposed to be a tutorial so how can you learn if they don't give you the formulas to try. So channel like this i would use daily thanks

Just so people know, the "clear" does NOT make the color "lighter"!! It makes it PALER, it will not lighten your hair to a further level, it will dull the severity of the color.

Less concentrated and paler means less pigment I. The formula. It can absolutely come out lighter. It won’t turn a level 7 to a 9, but it absolutely might be a 7.5 or 8.

Clear also helps to let you develop the color for more than like 2 min. I use it so I can process 20min. I’ve realized if you leave the toner in for 2 min you basically get 2 washes before it fades, if you let it process 5 min, you get 5 washes, and 20 min as recommended you get like 4-6 weeks depending how often you wash your hair. Crystal clear is perfect for allowing shades EQ to process longer ❤️

Daniella, would love to see an updated video with the new level 10’s. Favorite formulas etc., also add timing. I know 20 minutes is standard processing time, but we all know if you leave certain shades on that long they would get too dark. Do you have an average processing time for toning blondes? 💜💙💛

After I watched a TON of videos I landed on your channel which is the most comprehensive on toners and Redken Shades EQ. I ended up doing 07NB for the root and 08GN for the rest and it came out perfect (like a medium blonde which is what I was going for to begin with)! Thank you Daniella for the info, very helpful. Love the product as my hair is 100% gray and the shades eq leaves my hair so shiny and soft. However, I can't seem to figure out right color or colors to use. My hair is completely silver. I used the Amethyst Quartz color but my hair came out really dark because I really don't know what I'm doing as I've always gone to a professional but lately all they want to do is permanent color and cover up my grays. I went gray because I got tired of the gray roots showing within a week of coloring. That's why I love the shades eq. The color just washes away so I don't get that unsightly gray root look. Could you please suggest some colors that would enhance the gray or add some blonde to my grays. Nobody really does tutorials for us gray haired folks and it would be so helpful! Thank you!

So I'm attending Summit Salon Academy in Central Indiana right now. I graduate in December. I have been struggling a bit understanding toners. The educators are all amazing, & so good at their jobs, it's just me always overthinking everything. This video literally just broke through to me.. I believe I understand everything 100% now. The thing is, I understand the entire color wheel. Primary, secondary, & tertiary. I aced all of my tests lol I understand blue neautralizes/cancels orange, & all that stuff, I just wasn't letting myself fully understand I guess. The whole toner deal jus scared me to death. The letters and numbers threw me way off. I understood the levels and stuff, I just looked at it as "Why are there so many to choose from for each level?" Lol so it just really intimidated me. I just want to thank you so much for this video! This is the only solid one I could find where someone actually went through the Shades EQ toners, which is what we use! I'm so happy right now lol I've come this far in school, a level 3 stylist (I'll qualify for level 4 this month), student mentor, etc, & didn't understand completely til just now. I could cry😂 Sub'd&liked♡

Kristen Lea Roland hey girl! Don’t be scurred! Lol toners are basically like a coat of nail polish on the hair. It’s a more translucent form of color and it only lasts 4-6 weeks. “Toners” can be used a lot of different ways. They can be used for root blends, lowlights, all over glosses, color correction. Toners will not damage the hair. And redken shades eq toners are super moisturizing and deposit with processing solution (think of it like 10 volume). All the different numbers are all different shades of the toners. Some are blue, some are violet. They just came out with a full ash line that I’m dying to use. But if you ever have questions write me on instagram! @DaniellaBenita and go out and start playing with shades eq. The more you experiment the more you’ll learn!

Awesome video. I love this line and it definitely takes a lot of practice to figure out how to tweak it. I know this video is already really long but I think it would be great for you to do a video that focuses on the darker colors and on the blondes and then maybe on the warm and show real hair swatches before and after so we can see the change it made and how you normally use it. People are definitely obsessed with this line when it comes to level nine blond I think you could end up making a lot of videos just on different concoctions on light blond hair if you show swatches. Thanks

Great video!! My hair is long, very dark, Kim Kardashian, look. For the past 15 years my hairdresser has been applying Redkends Shades to eliminate the red tones and add shine. I love the results and that's why I keep going back!! I've been wanting to do my hair at home for economical reasons but I felt I couldn't. I happened to come across your tutorial and it's very helpful. It would be great If you did more videos that focuses on darker hair or help me formulate my own. My question: On occasion, my hairdresser has said he uses Expresso and a small amount of Onyx. I haven't build up courage to ask what exactly would I need if I decided to do it myself at home. How much Expresso to onyx and adding shine? I also don't like my hair to look blue when the light shines on it. I'm just trying to figure all this out and would love, love your help. Thanks!

Sherry Dufrenne they can be put on either. Dry hair absorbs the color more and wet hair absorbs less. So if I don’t want the color to really show I’ll put it on wet but if I really want it to deposit fully I’ll put it on completely dry hair.

I had been getting my hair bleach and toned at a redken salon for many years and when I went over seas for 9 months I experimented with toners to keep my hair fresh. Do you have an suggestions or tutorials for this process?

Thank you! I’m an old stylist. Licensed in ‘92, worked as a stylist and paid my way through PT school for 7 years. I’ve kept my license up all this time. My daughter is now 13 and we are having some fun coloring her hair... foiling, highlighting, darkening, etc. However, I’m rusty and confused with all the new lettering... learned in this video that g is for green not gold, which would explain why when I darkened my daughter’s highlighted hair it had a terrible green Hugh. Waited a week and re colored with:shades e q cream, 6m mixed with 5 wn, then did very few baby lights and toned with 6n, and 7nb. Looks pretty good. She has gotten so many compliments. Her natural color is 6/7 mousy like me. You’re pleasant to listen to, thanks for the videos!! ♥️

Thanks for the helpful video! I would really love to find a chart or something that shows exactly what each undertone is. Meaning..I have difficulties figuring out the amount of warmth to coolness in each shade, especially the light ones. Is B more pigmented than T? Where does P fall in place? Is it cooler than V?
@DaniellaBenita
@DaniellaBenita 5 жыл бұрын
Heather Taft hey love! I’ll attach a link to redkens color chart. You can look at the top of the chart to see the undertone and first find your level. So whatever level your hair is there’s specific undertones for each level then correct once you figure that out. I’m shooting a video tomorrow all about this so it will be coming out soon!

Hi Daniella - I'm trying to cover grays - not many. I've been using 08N Mojave and sometimes use 06N Moroccan Sand. I do the mixture as you mentioned .5oz color + .5oz clear + 1oz processing solution. There are still there are some stubborn grays. I didn't want to use the permanent color. What do you recommend?
@DaniellaBenita
@DaniellaBenita 6 жыл бұрын
Skittlesflavor1 hey! If you don’t want to use permanent I always full highlight my clients so that the blonde blends with the greys. Or if you want to use redken gels they are permanent but don’t leave a super harsh line. You’ll have to apply them with 20 volume on the root to cover the greys and leave it on for 30 min to process. They also have the same shades you’re using in gels! Hope this helps ❤️
@Skittlesflavor1
@Skittlesflavor1 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you Daniella! What if the client doesn't want any highlights and is strictly straight 08N? No blonde. Can I let the 08N/EQShades process longer for the stubborn grays or is there some kind of pre-prep of the hair I can do to make the greys want to take the deposit better? Or will the gels be the only way? I'm definitely going to look into the gels!! You're the best. Thank you for sharing your expertise!

One other question... I'm looking at the gels. The colors say 08NA and 06NA however Cafe Au Lait says 09N (just like the liquid). What does the "A" mean on the gels?
@DaniellaBenita
@DaniellaBenita 6 жыл бұрын
A is ash and you could try to use 20 volume with shades eq but I've never done it. It might open the hair cuticle and accept it more but I can't guarantee what it will do! If it was me I would go with color gels so you know it works but doesn't hurt to experiment!

Hey! I really love 9NA for ash highlights. Its just enough of a cool ash tone but not green. If you want even more of a punch add a small amount of 9t

Thank you for the video. I have very blonde hair( like level 11)and I am thinking on putting some low lights with the 9n. Should I wet my hair first so it deposits evenly?

Thank you so much for all that info. I will be using for the first time the 6N for roots and the 9V for my blond highlighted hair, I hear 9V is beautiful for very blond hair. Should I add some of the clear as well or the 9V will be enough?
@DaniellaBenita
@DaniellaBenita 6 жыл бұрын
Virginia Garcia 9v is absolutely beautiful but only add clear if you don’t want it to deposit as much. So if you are really light blonde use clear!

Cat Briones hey! They don’t but you could use Redkens color gels or Redken cover fusion to cover grey!

Hi Daniela! can you make a video explaining all the letters of the shades eq,please? because I have no idea. I wanted to tone down my balayage ( it was to light for me) it wasn't brassy, so I ended up purchasing from ebay 08na, first tried in a strand of hair and turned violet purple! I don't know why :( .Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

I love Redken color gels! They just reformulated and are really good. The grey coverage isn’t 100% so for that I use Redken cover fusion with 20 volume and grey drops!

Daniella Benita My stylist suggested , to highlight my greys, he use a honey color of shades. Applied all over, on my level 5 brunette, salt and pepper hair. The cost was terribly expensive. I'd like to know if you could suggest what color you think would be best for this and where nan I purchase the products?

Thanks so much. Gonna colour my hair at home, this helped a lot! Currently have 6/7 virgin hair, badly grown out. Highlights very faded. Was thinking: 20vol + 8n base colour. Then if it pulls warm, which it might, maybe 9nb to get a sandy beige. 🇨🇮
