I really like my 2002 Rav4. It's built like a tank. I know it only has the 2.0 liter engine but b/c it's has a timing chain it rarely needs to have the engine opened. In fact, my Rav4 still has the original exhaust system and little to no rust due to the ABS panels. Not a powerhouse with only 150 HP but more than enough for driving around the city and cruising down the highway at 110 ~ 120 km/h. After 18 years the Rav4 still runs extremely nice and requires little to no maintenance whatsoever and with the AWD system the Rav4 handles the winters here in Canada with ease! Gas mileage with the 2.0 liter engine is pretty good as well!

Ive owned and rebuilt and maintained about 10 of these trucks. Common issues ive seen: - Dash gauge stepper motors - easy fix, resolder new stepper motors, buy them from Amazon in packs of 5. - Odometer - These odometers hold the mileage memory. Be DAM sure the mileage on the odo matches the condition of the vehicle. Its easy to swap out the dash gauge cluster and fool people regarding the mileage. - PRNDL display dim or dark - There is a couple youtube videos showing what chips power those lights and how to reflow the solder/joints. - Knock sensor damage from water intrusion - easy fix, buy Delco/GM knock sensors (2) and wire harness. Replace the Intake mainofold gaskets during this job, use Fel-Pro kit. - Tailgate handle breaking - replace or repair with epoxy. Check the tailgate hinges and latches/strikers to be sure theyre not damaged, super cheap fix parts can be had anywhere. - Cloth seats front outer edge wear - theyre just prone to wearing and ripping. Get seat covers if youve got cloth, be aware NOT to cover the upper backrest portion if there are seat airbags. - HVAC actuators - hope its not the one under the dash, real PITA to get out. The others are easy to get at. Better yet, get a truck with non-auto HVAC controls. - 4WD switch - easy to repair, check youtube for videos. - Rear wheel well rust - Prevalent on pickups more than Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon. IF you get one with rust free wheel wells, do your best to prevent rust. - Cab corners - Pickups have a sound insulation that traps water and rusts the rear cab corners. Not much you can do, just be aware its an issue. - Trailer brake controller - there is a specific GM adapter that plugs between the brake controller and the vehicle. Be SURE not to chop up and splice your factory electricals while installing a brake controller, get the kit. Stay gold.

Nice buy I got 2005 suburban they changed a few small things but still the same truck. After having it for about a year Trans went out had to have it rebuilt it was 2,000 bucks then I found out the rear main seal was leaking and that was 1,500 so definitely look for leaks. They also have a lifter problem after you get over 200,000 wear and tear starts to show in these motors but Clifford is still running strong with a new trans new main seal and a new radio. My next fix is the back hatch it won’t open I’m working on that now to see what’s wrong and eventually new lifters.

Agree. Many people in the middle east prefer these trucks over landcruisers because they are both very comparable in terms of reliability and the availability of parts. Also these truck has phenomenal fuel efficiency for its size and wight.

Honestly I agree with the reliability. My family purchased a 2003 suburban brand new (same vehicle just longer version). We have replaced the AC compressor twice which was costly, and the window regulators multiple times. The biggest issue is the 4l60E 4speed transmission. There are tons of stories online of vehicles with the same transmissions all having issues, but I agree it is likely due to poor maintenance. Though I must say my family paid over $3,000 to have the transmission replaced recently at 135,000 miles. Not too shabby considering we would load the car up with 8 passengers and drive long distances. Even towing a boat and driving on beaches.
