I recently visited Madurai to offer my prayers at the Meenakshi Temple. After that I decided to visit the State Hand-Loom Centre , shop no 21,22 West Chitrai Street, opp the West Gate of the Temple. I asked for pure silk sarees. But was shown polyester (synthetic) sarees which the shopkeeper passed off as pure silk . I asked him many times about the purity (silk). Everytime he said , "yes madam this is pure silk". I bought them , 4 in no., costing Rs. 2,400/ and 3,200/ each. Since he was so insistent on its purity and that he was right opposite the Meenakshi Temple, I made the mistake of trusting him. I didn't test the silk strand, as I usually do. On returning home (Mumbai) I found that each one was not pure silk at all. I called him up and accosted him about how he had mislead me. He said, "they're Madurai silk madam". So is Madurai Silk not pure silk but polyester silk???? I advise all to think twice before purchasing "silk sarees / silk apparel" from this shop. The owner is not trustworthy..

We live in coimbatore but among others we buy our ghee in madurai from that shop thats shown. Especially for our kid. My father in law buys them just before we come for us to take. It will last until the next time we visit.
