The 8bitdo pro 2 has back paddles. They've also got an upcoming ultimate controller which will have hall effect joysticks and is shaped more like the switch pro/xbox controller.

I have a Renogy 266wh battery bank that I absolutely love. Fast charges all my stuff, and lasts a week of heavy use. I also have a ProCase for my Deck, that I love. It's like a cheap Killswitch.

The ATH-MX50 BT a little heavier than my wife’s non Bluetooth pair (the one shown here) but for a Bluetooth and wire pair is fantastic. However, the microphone part gets caught on collars, hoodies, and sweaters so I prefer the hers.

I find the steam deck to be best without much accessories my suggestion (not a "MUST HAVE" clickbait) are: • *60w or more usb c extension cable* or *60w usb c cable + usb c female to female adapter* (most people play near a outlet, just stop crying and realize that the steam deck is a laptop, usb c cables are all standard, just get a 60w or higher one that does 480mbps, because even though the good ones will say 10gbps, the reality is that it only does up to 480mbps if it's a 3.1 usb like the deck usb port, and that's more than enough, saying this so that you dont get a "charging only" cable when the price is identical) • *Screen Protector* (I'm surprised NerdNest forgot this one, if you have a deck, get a screen protector before it's too late, there are anti glare options as well, draw back being that it reduces brightness a bit and some make it a bit more unfocused, look at reviews before buying a anti glare one) that's it simple basic protection for the screen and power problem solved depending on how you like to play with your deck ;) you might also consider it a must to get a dock + controller/keyboard combo, a power bank or headphones I still hate the idea of making my deck bigger with the killswitch, or even using a thin rubber case, considering how well the grip of the deck is, I doubt it's even possible to drop if from my hands, probably would happen faster if i left it in the couch, either way, I love the ergonomics and feel, just dont want a case >:( storage case? dont even use the free one, because I leave the deck at my desk when not playing or just to leave charging protective case? dont want to make it bigger or make it look worse, if anything I would rather have a vinyl skin instead dock? dont need one because already have a good pc that can be played in my living room (but if I couldnt play there I would get a dock and remote play for sure) controller? I dont play docked headphones? ... *unless* if you are playing with other people around that get annoyed by it, *HOW DARE YOU?!* the base speakers are SO GOOD, I literally get upset when all deck reviewers just ignore it as if they were just copy pasting the reviews bluetooth keyboard? ONLY if you use your deck as a laptop, otherwise, it's doable, dont cry power bank? I bet that most people play near an outlet (and such as much or more switch owners complaing as well without having one...) but if you do like to play outside or (most likely) in your car, its always nice when you just dont wanna go home yet... also you are taking your gaming addiction outside the house? time to step back gaming a bit haha

The ATH-M50X BT-2 headphones are the updated bluetooth version that have a low latency mode that is very good for gaming, I have found. You can also plug it in the same way as the regular version.

The new 8bitdo lite 2, is slightly thicker because it has the bumpers and triggers in the more usual location, plus actual joysticks. Even as someone with large hands, I find them comfortable enough to play with friends some less intensive games. Would never use it as my main controller, but I'm super glad to have it

When it comes to a desktop I'm perfectly okay with wired keyboard and mouse if you're not using the standard type. However when it comes to the steam deck and using it on a TV I definitely need a wireless keyboard and mouse sadly only the expensive ones are Bluetooth.

Update a video updates the pro 2 controller so that the back buttons can be mapped independently. Not sure how they would do that though because they'd have to get steam to allow it or else you'd have to map it in their software every time which would be annoying.

the case the steam deck comes in is decent but ive seen way too many people who broke their screens while it was inside the case as they were charging so idk if there is a urgent need to go out and buy a good storage case but defiantly feels recommended

I use desktop mode fairly often so I don't have to have my loud gaming PC running for watching KZbin or similar things. I combined an old USB KVM switch i had laying around with a big USB hub and now I can switch all my USB hardware between Deck & PC with one button press

Huge tip! Grab the ATH M50x Bluetooth. I had the wired ones forever and upgraded to Bluetooth and they're AMAZING. Couldn't recommend enough. They have Bluetooth 5 which makes there be zero delay. I was able to sell my original wired set for 120 bucks(still holds value I guess) and payed 80 to upgrade to the BT

This is just completely false, even the lowest latency bluetooth headphones are still going to have significantly more than wired headphones. There are games where it might be less noticeable, especially if you're not sensitive to latency, but most of the time it will definitely be noticeable to the average person.

@@samwilcox10 It is nothing like arguing ethernet vs wifi, the difference is far less significant(even though I personally have far less issues on my xbox using ethernet). It's great that you don't notice the delay, but at minimum you're going to have over 40ms delay, which is noticeable in a lot of cases, again it may be less noticeable in certain games but most people will notice it in many cases, especially something that requires more precise timing like rhythm games. And my biggest gripe with your comment was stating there is zero delay, which is spreading outright false information.

Baseus Power Delivery Power Bank (wish I sprung for the 100 watt one for the better form factor) and Matte Tempered Glass Screen Protector for the non 512GB variant is all that's really needed imo. A set of wireless earbuds and higher end set of over ears is awesome too, but I don't know that people are really buying that for the deck. They probably already own them.

If anyone out there would rather have earbuds instead of bulky headphones I would recommend the Soundcore VR P10’s. They’re meant for the Meta Quest but they work no problems on my deck. Just plug in the included dongle and you get low latency wireless audio with an added bonus of being able to connect to your phone via Bluetooth and have both running simultaneously! For $100 it’s great and they do go on sale regularly.

I recommend the Final Audio UX3000 headphones for the Steam Deck. They have APTX Low Latency and ok ANC. Also run wired without power and wired with ANC on.

The aptX LL codec is not supported on Deck, so you might need a third party dongle to utilize. Normal aptX is still pretty fast. Deck supports the former and SNC, AAC, and LDAC.

For controller i suggest going with PS4 / official sony back button attachment ,controller has gyro controls just i dont know how good its since i dont use it at all. So you have ps4 cont. is like 60$? and attachment is 30$ and you have quite capable elite controller for 1/2 of the price AND when analog sticks need to be replaced its easy to send to repair and use other controller , for attachment life span i use it for over 2 years now with well over 500h of playing and still going strong highly recommended!

Bought the MX Master 3S mouse but its going back to the store. Trying to play some CoD games with it and I noticed that looking around looked slightly jittery/stuttery. After some googling I learned that the polling rate ont he M3S is only 125hz...womp womp. My G500 is 1000hz and nice and smooth looking around. Oh well, have to find a gaming mouse with 1000hz that allows multiple device use. I read that the Razer Orochi V2 can connect to 2 devices.

I think it's 8 bit Dough. I believe the intention was to be a kind of homonym of Nintendo as they started with the NES and SNES designs before big N took notice and made them stop with the Nintendo colorways on their controllers. My SF30Pro, the smaller SNES like one with no handles works pretty well with the steam deck, at least in Xinput mode.

I don’t think the Xbox controller series x works well at all. Even with drivers installed for the controller and the updates for your emulation. The dual shock makes it all easier and not as laggy at all. I really wanted the Xbox to work cuz of the ABYX but I end up grabbing my dual shock all the time

An "accessory" I highly recommend is a portable oled monitor. I bought the 13.3" innocn and I absolutely love it. Solves the problem of the steam deck's awful display.

One thing to note: Xbox-style controllers with back paddles aren’t the same as Steam Deck’s back paddles. You can’t configure them to be whatever you want. They can only be alternate inputs from the controller, like putting A or X on a back paddle. No idea whether the fancy upcoming PS5 controller will have the same issue.

Most likely, from what it looks like you can configure the steam deck back buttons to anything you need for any game. Like you said, back paddles on controllers are different causes they're meant to make other button inputs easier without losing camera control. You can do that with a steam deck from what it looks like, but you can do so much more with it too.

But normal controllers from Microsoft, Razer, etc can’t do the same thing with their back paddles. Bill was looking for controllers with back paddles “like the Steam Deck,” but even when they have them, they won’t do the same thing as the Deck,

Sure you can. I have an Elite Series 2 and I can customize the back paddles just like the back buttons on the Steam Deck.

The battery life on the Xbox elite is amazing. I play an hour or two a day and the battery lasts me months There’s Mac software for 8bitdo. Seems like Linux would be a natural progression

I can’t quest in WoW without my original Steam Controller, but after 5 long years, the gyro is giving up the ghost… I would shell out MAD $$$ to play with a shiny refreshed version. "I Wish it would tell you the current charging power, like if it was doing 15W, 20W..." It does, you already said it yourself, it tells you the voltage and current in use - 20V * 2.25A = 45W. I guess it is kind of stupid, that it is not there on its own, but nevertheless, the information is there. PS: going with more powerful charger solely for the deck does not really bring any benefits, since the charging rate is firmware capped to ~20-25W (and the rest is used to directly power the deck) - so when you are gaming and charging, the deck should not be taking the power from the battery, but directly from the charger and what power Is left, is used for charging the battery. I cap tdp pretty much for every game, that my discharge rate hardly ever goes beyond ~12W, therefore in my case - a tiny 30W charger does work just fine without any major compromises.

I have an elite 2 Xbox controller and Xbox series controller and a steam controller. I LOVE the steam deck. Input options are amazing. That said, the elite 2 controller is EXCEPTIONALLY well built. Feature rich and a lot of customizability. Comes with a great protective case and lots of great customizability with places for everything you aren't choosing to use. I highly recommend them if the cost isn't too high for you.

When you mention not using a bluetooth headphones I forget I have my gaming laptop connected by bluetooth to my pc speaker instead of wires for years now. I tried to watch your lips to see the lag and having trouble detecting it. I've seen more lag streaming on Netflix before. Sometimes reloading the video up corrects the lag. I'm sometimes gaming on my Deck using a bluetooth portable JBL speaker.

Get 8bitdo ultimate controller have back buttons and magnetic joystick(no drift) HD rumble is the best controller you can get work with steam deck(pc) android and switch and have charging dock 79$ is perfect .is my favorite after dualsense. And for headphones get Razer airbus for ps5 have 2.4 ghz dongle is perfect you can connected to your phones and steam deck or ps5 same time .I hope my comment is useful for you ❤️

Wow, i feel so stupid. I have a G613 and have been fighting with the on screen keyboard and general stuff in desktop mode, which could have been avoided. But i would not recommend the G613 in general, i have lots of double press issues with it.

Gulikit has a new controller that's compelling on so many levels. Cheaper, feature-rich and has hall-effect sticks by default. Edit: cheaper vs. all the 1st party controllers, especially the new DualSense.

Be careful with those Gulikits. They accidentally shipped out a bunch that came with the wrong IC for connecting the conductive touch sense capability of the thumb sticks... Even if you solder up the sticks. I think they're doing exchanges for people that were sent the wrong sticks, but buyer beware.

Minimalist recommendations: 1. Get only stuff you are actually going to use. 2. Headphones, a sd card and an usb a to c dongle* so you can use your existing usb devices. As for which headphones, i'm using cheap wired ones for now. Since you are holding the steam deck anyways, it's not a big issue to use wired ones. *edit: I mean just the usb a to c adapter, which should cost less than 5 bucks, not an usb hub with usb c plug.

Crying about no gyro on Xbox controllers? Thats the first feature I always disable because it is literally useless and as someone who uses a wide range of controllers for different systems, that Elite Series 2 controller is perfect as it is.
