I messed up in Montana elk hunting when I was 15 years old cooking beans and cornbread. I didn't have a trivet, beans were awesome but cornbread was crusty and dry. next morning I improvised and used stones to make a trivet for biscuits at breakfast. As always, love your videos Kent and shan

Here in Africa we control the intensity of the coals with a stick. No need for fancy try-pods.

Great video Kent.....gotta love those horse shoe trivets. Hey buddy when you get home of the wagon trail, put that old Dutch oven in Mama's self cleaning oven for a full cycle, and you won't need those wire brushes any more. Anything burned on the D/O will turn to ash and wash off with just water. It will be just like brand new again. Try it....you'll love it.

Just wanted to say hi. You’ve given us a lot of good info over the last few weeks that I put to good use. Made an apple pie last night and like always everything taste better cooked over an open fire. Keep the fire hot and the videos coming. You and Shannon make me feel like I’ve come home. God Bless!

Correction from an old fellow..Someone said their cooking tasted of burnt paper. The solution given was to quit using paper towel wipes. I tried that for a while but then realized it was not the paper towel but was caused by a rough surface. So I sanded the cooking surface to resemble that of Mom’s old cast iron skillet. Oh, and I went back to using a THIN metal spatula that easily scrapes off any burnt food and provides a cleaner pot for different foods. An orbital sander can work wonders on today’s mass produced iron cookware.

Do you recommend the Lodge 6 quart or 8 quart 12” Camp Oven as being most useful? Neither is being manufactured right now, but trying to decide between the two for both backyard cooking and for camping trips.
@CowboyKentRollins3 жыл бұрын
Good ovens they are

I watched more of your videos where you recommended them both. I can get them one at a time. I think I’ll get the larger one first. Thank you for the reply, and for your great videos. Both your cookbooks are in my Amazon cart.

Haven't seen in year's, don't know what they're called, but they were frames that had a chain? That held a Dutch oven over a fire, I believe is a dutch oven, ever use them or a cauldron?

Hello Kent; Thanks for another "Tutorial". All I lack in my assorted go to tools is the Trivets of differing heights. I like the ones you have made from horse shoes. I'll have to ask around to see if I can scrounge up enough to make myself some like yours. You don't have a Patent on those Trivets do you? LOL Looking forward to more from the Chuck Wagon. Stan

No patent here but sure been around a lot of horseshoes
