While there is no disputing that the GM II is the superior 24-70, for someone that this is a hobby, it is hard to justify the extra $1200+ over the Sigma, considering the images are indistinguishable outside of Lightroom pixel peeping.

I currently pair the Sigma 24-70mm Art with Tamron 35-150mm. The Tamron 35-150 would be THE choice if I only used one lens. Despite its size and weight it is well worth it for the versatility. I can't stress enough what an amazing lens it is! I would probably opt to replace the 24-70mm Art with the Sigma 16-28mm for more width and a lighter carry. Also considering the new Sony 11mm f1.8 for an extra light gimbal setup.

You could use a 16-35 instead of the 24-70 and get complete, non-overlapping focal length coverage, especially if you use two bodies.

For event gigs, I prefer to use all zoom lenses. I use the sigma 14-24mm, sigma 24-70mm and Tamron 70-180mm on all 3 of my cameras. It's so much easier allowing me to reach certain shots without having to walk closer. Also, my work flow is much faster because i can use 2 different zoom lenses to get my shots and move on. I still use prime lenses especially with dark scenes or night shots. That F/1.8 really helps out allow which allows me to lower my iso to 3,200 or below. But most of all, i prefer to use my prime lenses for portraits session as the bokeh and sharpness is something i cannot get from my zoom lenses.

I had a Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 when I switched to Sony and it did well but I wanted something better, especially since Tamron wanted to charge almost the price of a used lens to fix the rubber zoom grip. I would’ve love to have the 24-70mm 2.8 GM II but it’s well over my budget so I ended up with the Sigma 24-70mm 2.8 Art lens and so far, I’m loving it. Maybe someday when I have the money I’ll trade my lens for a G Master 24-70mm version 2.

Dude. This new video style is fantastic. You're a weatherman for photos. Brilliant! Since I shoot like 90% cityscapes at F8/F11.. the 24-105/F4 has been my "lighter 24-70/2.8" for years. Of course now Sony comes along and drops a 24-70/2.8 that's almost identical size to the 24-105/F4. MY POCKETS HAVE BOTTOMS, SONY. Luckily I'm still on a tiny prime and manual lenses kick. I'm still Smeagol for now. But I'm pretty sure that GM2 is going to get me Golluming real soon.

Got both and the V2 is improved in all areas. The most important improvements are - 2 custom buttons on the lens for when shooting in landscape or portrait, lighter weight and sharper. This is all we want in a lens. I'd rate the V1 as average to good. Not outstanding. This is how I feel about the 16-35PZ. also an average lens. I have buyers remorse on both of those lenses. The V2 though is a must have.

I just bought this lens. Shooting A7IV.. Prior to it I was using the sigma 24-70 2.8 and I found it lacking. I do concert/music photography so it's always dark and with production lighting... while I'm sure the sigma is great for some, it was horrible for my application. At the last music festival I was shooting at, the sigma had horrible lens flares from the stage lighting, day time video and photos had orange tint to them which i had to constantly change my temp for because when I put my other gmaster glass on, it was too cool. The edges were horrible when it was darker... THEN I got this bad boy and it was night and day... gmaster glass is expensive but i find the jump in quality (even with small things) worth it.. all my issues were gone
