How do you set up your Canon R5 MKII for photography? How did you set up your custom buttons and dials? Tell me about it below!

Cool explanation of the configuration you have. Complex when switching genres. For me it’s simple, C1 & C3 are for 200 ish 2.8 low ISO for portraits in between my main C2 setting for 2000 2.8 higher ISO for fast sports action for my R7. All with auto update and based on manual. That R5ii though is looking more tempting every day! Oh my video mode I have 4k fine , 1080 120 and 4/60 (I think) dialled in but forget which custom numbers. Mainly a photography guy

Do you prefer mechanical or electronic shutter for portraits or normal scenes please ? Which is the best on that R5 mk2 ?
@KevinDeal2 ай бұрын
I prefer mechanical shutter because it gives the model an audible cue as to when the picture is taken and when they can change their pose.
@youclement81242 ай бұрын
@@KevinDeal ok so for a practical side. but otherwise isn't there one better than the other in terms of pure quality ? Thank you so much 🙏🏼
@KevinDeal2 ай бұрын
@@youclement8124 For portraits there is absolutely no difference in quality on the R5MKII whether you use mechanical or electronic shutter.
@paran65Күн бұрын
@@KevinDeal Also the electronic shutter of the R5II has a chance to have audible cue

Do you have a video on how to use flash with the R5ll?
@KevinDeal3 ай бұрын
I don't. What specifically are you wanting to see how to do?
@richschmitt1003 ай бұрын
@@KevinDeal my understanding is that, when you attach a flash or a transmitter to the hot shoe, you lose the live electronic view, the view goes black. Is there some sort of switch you have to enable so you can see the image while a flash or transmitter is attached?
@KevinDeal3 ай бұрын
@@richschmitt100 It depends. If you want to shoot in mechanical or first curtain, yes, that is the case. It will black out the screen for like a 1/1000th of a second or so. However, if you put your shutter in fully electronic then go to your red menu and navigate to tab 8, you can turn on Blackout-Free Display. If you have this turned on, you can shoot flash with no screen blackout. I didn't cover that in this video or in my review because there are so many friggin features in this camera that I couldn't fit them all in. Sounds like I need to make a followup video called "Hidden Features of the R5 MKII"

Hi Do you use back button focus mostly or not maybe I missed if you told in the video? BR/Lars
@KevinDeal2 ай бұрын
I've been using it less these days. I do have it programmed but I just rely on the half press of the shutter release
@larsnilseng94352 ай бұрын
@@KevinDeal Thank You and same here, I use back buttom up and then, but tend to use the half press mostly and especially when I need to be fast, probably since Im so used with it!

Hi have you encountered photos came out half black at 160-250 shutter speed with studio flash ? I dont have this issue when using R5 but it seems like its happening with R5 mark 2. With the same studio flash. Additionally, the trigger doesnt work well with r5mark2. But works fine with r5, sonny etc...
@KevinDeal3 ай бұрын
Shutter synch speed in mechanical is 1/200. In Electronic it's 1/160. So you may be going over that and you're not switching your camera to HSS mode? Which trigger is not working well?
@istanatan3 ай бұрын
@@KevinDeal When I tested it, it was with broncolor lights with 2.1 trigger. Usually I'm at 160 and tried up to 200-250 with R5 Ive got no issues. But r52 seems to be having issues even at 160. Do you have any recommendations for camera settings for R5 mark 2 for studio or shoots that needs studio lights. I did try to use first curtain electronic shutter and it did kinda solve it(half black out issue on photo.). But the trigger still doesn't work well with R5 mark 2. (Out 20 shoots maybe 1-3 shots can trigger The studio light.) I work heavily with studio lights. I'm not sure if there's a difference between r5-r52. But I thought it should works the same or even better ?
@KevinDeal3 ай бұрын
@@istanatan You can go to the Flash Function settings of the camera and mess with that. Perhaps something is configured incorrectly? As far as the Broncolor trigger, I don't use Broncolor so I would be guessing. But maybe it's possible there's an issue between your trigger and the new hot shoe? It's not the same hot shoe as the R5, so perhaps that's causing an issue?

For us noobs, you need to be in M(manual) to get the correct Menus.

I'm assuming in other modes it grays out some areas?
@ScottBasu3 ай бұрын
So, that was 4 use scenarios you went over, but we only have C1-3 on Canon cameras. Do you have a secret way to store more than 3 custom modes? 😉
@KevinDeal3 ай бұрын
The only way I secretly store a fourth mode is that I tell the camera to leave my last settings intact and I use M as my fourth shooting setting. I can't recall it, but as long as I don't factory restore the camera, it should leave my last settings.
