Thanks for a very concise outline of your setup. I want to start doing more video and this gets me to a good starting point. I really enjoy your easy going style and straight to the point delivery. Best to you and your heart health as a heart attack, stent, pacemaker equipped 70 year old myself.

Aloha Scott, glad to see you’re feeling a little better. Thanks for the great video. I’ve got similar equipment and I’m just starting to use video for the very first time. So I’ve taken a lot of notes and watching you multiple times. Also looking forward to processing it if you could get into that on your next video or two, that would be awesome. Thanks again.

Beautiful there. One of the things I really like about the tech we have is being able to share across this little planet, the diversity we have around us - so thank you. Really glad to see you doing so much better. I know I mentioned you on my channel when you got in the accident and then with the widow maker. See, I like shooting hummingbirds - your bears and moose - would make a little uneasy. Thank you for sharing your video settings. I really missed the 8K when shooting the R3 and really enjoying learning your settings. Will change mine to match .... other than 8K!! 🤗💖

Editing video would be nice. When I playback my 120 fps should it be slower? It is not unless I enable high frame rate in the menu
@VafaPhotography3 ай бұрын
If you use a video editor you can also slow down a 240 / 120 or 60 frame rate by a quarter or half or more. Or you can use the in camera option of the high frame rate that does it for you. I personally do it myself in video edit as I have original (typically 60 frame rate) in a normal video. Still learning myself it's nice to use in camera high frame rates at 120 / 240 which is nice. Also 240 is available in 2k rez now too so there is that if you want a very slow mo

I use a 24 timeline so I slow the 120fps footage down to 20%. If you use a 30 timeline you would slow it down to 25%. Just divide the timeline by the fps to get the percentage you need the footage slowed down to. And of course once slowed down kill the audio as it will be slowed down also.
@dscottstoness24363 ай бұрын
Great video- very practical. Why 24p? To get slower? Most North American TV's and KZbin is either 30 or 60P? Arn't you causing frame skipping / or insertion (jump) to match 30 or 60P, when viewed?
@WILDALASKA3 ай бұрын
Movies are filmed at 24 fps timeline for natural blur. anything faster than 30p looks unnatural to the eye. TVs etc are resolution and refresh rate and not timeline fps.

@@WILDALASKA Are you satisfied with video quality in 4K 120p? Oversampled 4k 30p is more detailed. Also, have you considered using enhanced digital IS mode instead of crop mode? It should allow to have 4k 120p but cropped. Have you used that mode? Is the crop comparable to the aps-c mode?

Your video was very helpful but, I could not do slo mo 120 fps without the high frame rate enabled. Your video had it disabled.
@WILDALASKA24 күн бұрын
You have to go back and set the switched video mode to 120fps after saving the c3. you set the high frame rate off and 2k 120fps so you can have sound and slow the footage down or leave it at normal speed. Elsewise you get no sound @ 120fps with high frame rate enabled.

I find your content very helpful. I've only been shooting wildlife for two years now. I just recently upgraded to the new Canon R5 Mark ll. I have noticed that when I have my video set to 120fps, it still plays back in real time. Am I doing something wrong? Or can you only slow it down in post? If so, what is the best program? I edit using Macbook Pro in LrC which I love. However, it doesn't support video develop. Thank you.

Just what I needed. I set up my camera but now I'm a bit confused. I tested the settings and they are both normal speed with one being cropped. How do I set-up for slow motion? I don't know anything about video. Sorry. I rarely use it but would like to try it more often. I'm thinking that I would either have to set C3 for slow motion and lose it as a crop mode or leave that and choose a different movie recording size from the menu when in recording mode. What movie recording mode do I set for slow motion? Going back now to re-watch the video to see if I missed this setting. Thank you, Scott! Happy holidays! I'm glad you're feeling well.

I forgot to add to go back and set the slow mo when selected in video mode. It will remember the last setting you have set in video mode. the register of c3 I should have done first in the tips then the slow mo. Just ping me pin instagram if you still get lost

What do you use for video editing. DaVinci (the free one) does not support the Mark IIs MP4 files because they are H265 and I don't think you can change that in the R52. You could on the original R5. To get H265 10 bit in DaVinci you have to buy the studio version. Thanks for all your great videos.

It just depends on how close you can get. But you can also run a TC or drop the camera into crop mode.

The R5 II advanced manual says you can record 4K 120p in standard intra and get higher data rates. LGOP gives you 350 Mbps. Can you can see if you can record 4k 120p at higher Mbps after you select clog2 and 422 10 bit? The you might have to set clog2 and 422 10 bit first because the Mbps for standard intra is 1800 Mbps

@@WILDALASKA But I may be wrong. Another area on Canon's website shows higher data rates in 4K. The menu is very different from the R5 and I need to see how you select 4K 120p at 1800 Mbps. It also showed higher data rates that matched the r5 and r3. The only question would be how sub sampled 4K image looks and how much detail you lose. If you can shoot at higher data rates in 4K then I stand corrected.

I'm missing a step! I thought I was following all your instructions, but when I finish, I only get 2K 120 fps, whether I start the video with the switch on the upper left, or by pressing the red button on the top right. What am I doing wrong?
@WILDALASKA3 ай бұрын
I should have added to make sure to change the resolution back to 4k 120 fps after you register the c3. So go back into your settings and set it to 4KD 120FPS and disable crop mode and it should all work as long as you registered the c3 with the 2k 120.

Hi there. Set up just as you said, but…. When I hit the red button it goes to C3 120fps 2k and cropped - that’s brilliant. However, when I’m in stills mode and slide the left hand button from stills to video my video setting goes to 2k 100fps cropped again. I cannot get it to go to a non cropped 4K 120fps mode. Where am I going wrong? Thanks. Richard

Forgot to add that after you save the c3 go back in video mode and set it tip for 4k 120 non cropped. As the last setting you have in movie mode will be what you get when you switch back to movie form stills.
