Like it should be clear to anyone that Bruce set up a surveillance system, but they had Lucius explain what's going on to the viewers who aren't paying attention. This is known as "expositional dialogue" in the film industry.

I think the joke was more supposed to be about a specific set of Batman fans who feel that Miller's work defined the character. Year One and The Dark Knight Returns are considered by many to be the two definitive Batman comics, both of which Miller wrote. In their view, Batman wouldn't be the character his is today without Frank Miller.

I think I was lucky to grow up with both! The campy Batman and the dark Batman. Both were equally valid in my view and I agree that silver age Batman has his place. I have to say I prefer the darker edge on the character because I feel thats what Golden age Batman was, but I enjoy the campy spin on the character. People moan about Schmaucher but I liked Batman Forever because I saw it as a nod to the silver age after the dark post Miller Batman. Batman and Robin has no defence though

I forgive Clooney for the film though, because I love his freakin' character in "From Dusk Till Dawn" so much that I'll let him get away with a lot. And I used to work at a dairy queen so with the ice-theme, Arnold's puns came in handy at work for me and a friend of mine. You OWE it to yourself to see the Timm era -at least Justice League the series-Justice League Unlimited. The characters all cross over- the very last season centers on Luthor he even ends up leading a new Legion of Doom!
