Can you direct me towards some of your music online? I'd be interested to check it out. The No is a bit of a difficult google search to narrow things down. Cheers...Ben

Maximum respect to you Ben for taking the time and consideration to compile this list, a comprehensive catalogue of the obvious and obscure in equal measures, which has sent me delving back into my own record collection as well as seeking out your recommendations of which I was unaware. Thanks for enlightening me. Getting a sense of your tastes - as you state clearly it's a list of your personal favourites - I'm surprised by some omissions, namely: Kryptonics - Land That Time Forgot/She's Got Germs (7") Seminal Rats - Omnipotent (possibly my number 1, definitely top 5) Psychotic Turnbuckles - Destroy Dull City (EP) (although it was hard to take these guys seriously with their stupid wigs and outfits) ... and I did watch Part 2 before noting these, but perhaps you just didn't dig these bands/releases. Nonetheless you're a man of extensive knowledge and impeccable taste and I take my hat off to you sir.

Cool of you to give a shout out to The Masters. Jim was an old friend of my parents. We once spent an evening with him and his son. Dinner in Carlton, then back to their terrace house. Great night. Quite a generous raconteur. Even gave me a harmonica lesson. His son was cool too. Many years later I met Doug through my best mate. Mentioned he was looking for a place to stay. Hi Ben. Great list as usual. Amyl and the Sniffers was a surprise. But those two EPs are great. I still love them and will be first in the queue for their new one. What have you done? I'm going to be busy chasing down things from your list for the rest of the year! I wrote a piece six years ago, Between The Cracks: Aussie Garage Punk, that only scratched the surface. Love Civic, they were a highlight for me at Levitation fest in Austin. I wrote about these, which ultimately was meant to be just a part one: La Femme - La Femme (Aztec, 1980) X - X-Aspirations (Aztec, 1980) Laughing Clowns - Laughing Clowns (Missing Link, 1980) The Birthday Party - The Birthday Party (Missing Link, 1980) Hitmen - Hitmen (Savage Beat, 1981) The Riptides - Tombs Of Gold (1982/2014) The Scientists - Blood Red River (Au-Go-Go, 1983) The Moodists - Thirsty’s Calling (Red Flame, 1984) The Celibate Rifles - The Turgid Miasma Of Existence (Hot, 1986) Crime & The City Solution - Room Of Lights (Mute, 1986) feedtime - Shovel (Aberrant, 1987) The New Christs - Distemper (Citadel, 1989) Cosmic Psychos - Go The Hack (Sub Pop, 1989) The Visitors - The Visitors (Citadel, 1979) Bleeding Hearts - What Happened? (Aztec, 1980) Whirleywirld - Whirleywirld (Missing Link, 1980) Sunnyboys - Sunnyboys (Mushroom, 1981) New Race - The First And The Last (Trafalgar, 1982) Do-Re-Mi - The Waiting Room (Domestic Harmony, 1982) Pel Mel - Out Of Reason (GAP, 1982) Models - The Pleasure Of Your Company (Mushroom, 1983) Painters & Dockers - Love Planet (Shock, 1984) The Screaming Tribesmen - Date With A Vampyre (Citadel, 1985) Salamander Jim - Lorne Greene Shares His Precious Fluids (Red Eye, 1985) Hard-Ons - Smell My Finger (Citadel, 1986) Grong Grong - Grong Grong (Alternative Tentacles, 1986) Lime Spiders - The Cave Comes Alive (Virgin, 1987) Beasts Of Bourbon - Sour Mash (Red Eye, 1988) King Snake Roost - Things That Play Themselves (Amphetamine Reptile, 1989) Lubricated Goat - Paddock Of Love (Amphetamine Reptile, 1989)

Truly terrible joke 😂 Interesting list, Ben. The Thought Crims is the first thing I recognised from my Sydney youth, tho Grierson remained a big part of the scene with Green records. I still play ‘Fuck the Neighbours’ to my neighbours occasionally. Good to hear yr take on AATS. I’ve only known of them since they broke in last 12 months and lots of my UK music friends love em. I just can’t get it, to me they remind me more of the Radiators than the Cosmic Psychos …basically, an Aussie pub rock band with a singer who looks a bit bogan punk. Maybe they should have aspired to be the Divinyls instead. Will have a listen to some of the newer stuff you showed. Particularly Bad Dreams, I do love some social commentary done well in punk music.

I think you're right to throw in the singles, because singles best capture, for me at least, what punk is - which is the do it yourself aesthetic. I think if you're like the Clash, taking 100000 quid signing advance from CBS, you don't get to call yourself a punk. Well, that's all you do get.
