Just to say: I think your contribution is really precious for film photography community, and espcially for the ones who want to better understand light and chemistry. Thank you sincirely

My dude, you look to be too well versed in film photography to be buying HP5 at anything over $9 ($8.95 at B&H). Kudos on all the vids, excellent quality both production and content.

I love Bergger Pancro 400. It's my go to B&W film. I also like Rollei Retro 80S.

My personal favourite film, which I use frequently is Rollei Retro 80S. I buy it not because it's cheap ( which it is if you shop around ) but because of the results it gives me. I use it in both 35mm and 120 format. I process it in Rollei developers, Supergrain, when rated @ ISO 80, RLS Low Speed @ ISO50.

Ha ha! Nobody seems to know how to take the back off of a Spotmatic or K1000, but that’s okay. Your videos are excellent and are among my favorites. Keep up the great work!

Great video. I just finished me last frames of Kentmere Pan 400 I bulk rolled in 2022. It’s time to buy another 100 feet and the prices have jumped from $56 to $72 in year. It’s still a good deal. I’ve actually been preferring Kentmere 400 in 120 and Kentmere 100 is lovely in 35mm.

Rollei Retro 80 is (apparently) the same as their RPX-25. Try shooting it at 25 and develop with RPX-25 times on 'The Massive Dev Chart'.

I agree, RPX 25/Retro 80s is great at iso 25. Very high resolution and shadow detail without blowing up the highlights.

I like that you process your film and not send it to a Lab. For me that proves that you have tested that brand of film. Thanks for your great advise 👍

I've certainly made use of labs, but generally I vastly prefer to develop myself. There's a level of feedback you get from doing it yourself, plus, pushing and pulling doesn't cost any extra....

Great video well presented, I'm from Dundee and I've never heard a accent like yours 😀 , So far I've used Fomapan for 99% of my photography and always been happy with it but I recently thought I'd try something different and got myself a batch of Kentmere, One complaint I have with Kentmere which is something to look out for if you're using old cameras is the print on the backing paper is so light it's almost impossible to see through red glass especially in shady conditions, I missed 2 frames the last times I used it

oh and i think the apx line is actually a ilford pan 100/400. i don't think that ilford/harman makes an extra line of film but thanks for the interesting information.

One thing I'd add to the equation is how flat (or not) the film physically is once developed. I'll spend the extra $3 for a roll that keeps me from going crazy trying to scan on a flatbed. I suppose a nice digital camera setup with some sort of film holder negates that issue but if you're needing to use a flatbed beware. I forget which fomapan I tried a few months ago but holy smokes.
@noahvonhatten

I just made a video about Fomapan 400 where I mentioned exactly this. Trying to scan it on a flatbed was a bit of a nightmare. You make a valid point.

Totally get the reviews.Their`s a reason why cheap black and white films are cheap. limited when it comes to developer choice, and push - pull flexibility.

I’m new to film as a whole. I’m in the process of getting my HP5 developed at the moment. My dilemma is, I costs me £16/ roll to get developed and has to be sent away so im having to wait to see my photos (1st world problems, I know). What are peoples thoughts on XP2? I can get that developed much quicker but I am keen to hear peoples comparisons between HP5 & XP2

I see you rated the Rollei Retro 80S at 40ASA; have you ever used it at box speed and if so what were the results like? Have you developed it in D76 1:1

I’ve used it a Box Speed and at 40 ASA. I liked the ones at 40ASA better. There are samples of both in the Retro 80S video I made. I haven’t developed it in D76 1:1 however.
