Thank you for making your videos I am a first time grower and I’m excited to see how they taste I’m going to share you on my page keep on growing

Those are so good. Im growing for the first time this year. We had sudden snow storm late April. Of course I had bought tons of little plants that day, without checking weather. (It had been low 70s!) it hailed on my way home. So they took over my dining room / table for a month. They’re sure hardy plants.

Hi Steve. I grow them each year and love them - they are incredibly sweet. I think the pods are tastier when the peas have swollen a bit, rather than still flat. And far better raw in a salad than steamed. But, like yours, they never make it far into summer without succumbing to mildew. Kids can't get enough of them raw either, which is an added bonus. All the best.

I agree, they are wonderful when the peas start to form, but I definitely start eating them flat, that first taste of summer, just after the early strawberries for me : All the best - Steve

I stopped growing Oregon Sugar Pod as I freeze the excess, but found that unsatisfactory, limp and slimy. Went over to Sugar Snaps (Sugar Anne) which seldom make it out of the garden😋, but I usually have a freezer bag of excess. They freeze well, don't stick together as much and give you the occasional reminder of summer. Stir fryedas well as a veg in it's own right. Managing succession well enough to only want a bag of excess frozen, eating fresh from the garden most of the time. Lovely video, thank you. Gwen

We never freeze Gwen, because we have to many family eager to eat them, always keen to try alternatives though : All the best - Steve

When you showed the flat pod, I finally figured out what the 'odd' word you all in the UK call our (U.S./Oregon state) non-shelling pea...those are what we call 'snow peas' and are about the only peas I have ever grown and I always eat them when they are flat, a typical stir fry pea, so good!!

Hi Steve, This is another one I've not grown, I have peas growing ( Onward ) but for the peas not the pods, It's something I've not given a lot of thought about because of the room I have available, I am waiting to pull a broad bean plant so that I can get the peas in that Bill and Val sent me so we can try something different, I have bought and sown some snowball cauliflower and I am waiting for the golden beetroot seeds to arrive so I can get those sown, anyway enjoy those peas and I'll catch you on your next one, Take care and stay safe.
@SteveRichards4 жыл бұрын
Given your limited room, they are perfect Ronald, you get much more yield and they are so tasty. The only issue everyone mentions is that you end up eating them all raw, they are too good to cook! : All the best - Steve

3:03 Can these peas be used like shelling peas, for storing after dried then boiling or canning? They are a cross between an English pea and a snow pea but has anyone tried them dry then boiled?
@SteveRichards3 жыл бұрын
hi Dan, they are best eaten fresh, consuming the whole pod. For shelling you are better off with Alderman : All the best - Steve

I'll have to grow them next year. I've forgotten the name of the peas I'm growing. They were the only ones available and are ok raw. Haven't managed to stop snacking on them to get enough for a fried rice yet, which is what I like them in.

Hi Steve I have grown these this year but I have to say I am very disappointed. Very tough and fibrous raw - that’s for sure. I am going to try cooking them to see if that makes them more palatable. Given your rave review here, I wondering if I have done something wrong, although the plants look immaculate...
@SteveRichards4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you've been sold a dud, nothing touch and fibrous about mine and several other commenters agree. They should be crisp and sweet, I wonder how well you have watered them perhaps, they do need a lot of water : All the best - Steve

We must be thinking a like, I decided not to grow podding peas next year. I'm keeping to growing sugar snaps and mangetout. I grow Nairobi snaps and Sahara mangetout both great. I'll give your variety a try next year and compare.

Do taller varieties give higher yield over a longer time?

They do, I used to grow Alderman, but I found the the time window for edible peas was much smaller than it is with the mangetout, so in the end I get more yield from mangetout : All the best - Steve

Its funny when i started growing peas they were short plants like 2 to 3 feet high Then last few years i have grew them and they are almost 2 meters tall?? Now all the seeds i could find the peas only grow a foot or two?? Weird...i saved seeds from last year and mixed them with this years mix Next years saved seeds might be a little weird lol ?? I usually buy more pea seeds every year but save seeds too so it should be interesting Much love xoxox

Good thinking, I was doing 4wkly but I think leaving them in the poly tunnel stunted them, I recon you’re right it was too hot. The last lot I planted directly outside have been just as quick despite the change in weather but by the sounds of it I should double the quantity of plants too. Between us and a Scooby snack for the little dogs we keep running out!
