It's not exactly on topic, but we lost John Prine to Covid-19 last night. Bob Dylan expressed the highest admiration for his songwriting skills which is not too shabby. I'm sad tonight and can't face playing any of JPs music for now, so this video was a welcome distraction - thanks as always John (H).

Covid 19 is the biggest globalist scam they’ve ever concocted. They took a mildly contagious flu and turned it into the greatest suppression of freedom of association and human interaction ever conceived. John Prine died of cancer not the Chinese virus and he knew it. All those cigarettes and joints took their toll.

Impossible task! Even narrowing it down to a top twenty would be very difficult for me - there are a lot of un-acclaimed “lesser” albums that I’m personally very attached to, such as “Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid”, “Together Through Life”, “Shot Of Love”, “World Gone Wrong”, even - dare I mention? - “Down In The Groove”! the list goes on... But I enjoyed hearing your picks, all very valid.. glad that you included “Street Legal”, and even though it’s not a favorite of mine, “Saved” was a very interesting choice... My personal favorite will always be “John Wesley Harding”, and “Blood On The Tracks” as a close second.. after that - it depends on what day of the week it is...Nice video John.

I am happy that at least you included "John Wesley Harding" in your top ten. It is my personal favorite if not objectively his very best. I can tell you became a Dylan fan fairly late in the game, since you left out everything earlier than "Blonde on Blonde." In my opinion, none of his post-1960s works, with the possible exception of "Blood on the Tracks ," comes close to those from his classic period-"Bringing It All Back Home," "Highway 61," and "Blonde on Blonde."

I'm a late Dylan fan but still agree with you, be it that I include both mid seventies albums in my top 10, next to the whole lot from 2nd (Freewheelin') up to and including the 8th (John Wesley Harding). To me, Infidels was his last good album. After that, it's the poor eighties, and the numerous "returns to form" never happened to me. The album I disagree on with most list makers is Love & Theft. If we disregard all cover albums (and there are a lot!) only Knocked out Loaded has poorer songs than Love & Theft, to me. But there's enough hate already in the world, so let's agree to be mesmerized by the many masterpieces he put out. Besides those, I also enjoy the Bootleg Series vol 1-3 and the fabulous Rolling Thunder concert (vol 5.)

I liked his work with Daniel Lanois. "Time Out Of Mind" is probably my all time favorite album of all time. And "Oh Mercy" is in my Top 5 favorite Bob Dylan albums. "Tell Tale Signs" is one of my all time favorite albums. The female vocal on the "Desire" album is Emmylou Harris. It never seemed to me like she got alot of recognition for that. I don't remember seeing her name in the credits but were picture was on the back of the album. I loved her vocal on "Golden Loom" the Bootleg Volumes 1,2,3. Emmylou's "Wrecking Ball" album was produced by Daniel Lanois and she recorded a beautiful rendition of "Every Grain of Sand" on that album. There's a connection, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Daniel Lanois and Mark Knopfler.

Terrific list John! As always I appreciate hearing your insights on these albums. I'm glad to see Slow Train Coming getting some love! It's one of his all time best. At that point in time, Bob hadn't sounded so passionate since Blood on the Tracks, and it is one of his best albums lyrically. It's also quite a rocking, grooving album which I suppose is part of the reason I like it so much. Any album that has Mark Knopfler on it, let alone Knopfler AND Pick Withers is a must listen. Difficult to rank these albums, but I think at the moment my top 3 would consist of Slow Train Coming, Highway 61 Revisited and The Times They Are A Changin'.

Thanks for doing this - I highly regard all the albums you've mentioned here but, well.......there is a reason that the Beatles were listening to Dylan every day during the mid-'60s, and a reason they gave this guy a Nobel Prize...and it's reflected in all the albums he released prior to Blonde on Blonde (the earliest one on your list). I would respectfully submit that The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is the scientific equivalent of Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity. It exploded into the world of music the same way, altering it forever. And the four albums he made immediately after that were even more amazing and made us all drop what we were thinking and reconsider music entirely. Sorry but gotta give you a B+ only on this one (said the dinosaur to the wooly mammoth). But I love that you put your opinions out there and give us a forum to add our own silly views. It's a fun thing to keep our minds active even as our bodies are wasting away in this absurd time. Keep up the good work and stay safe everyone.

Top 2 for me would be Blood On The Tracks and John Wesley Harding, in no particular order. Blood On The Tracks in its original album form, that is, before half the album was re recorded, as it is found on The New York Sessions. The released album while still very good really pales by comparison. The slower "Idiot Wind" and also "You're A Big Girl Now" are much better in their original form, especially. John Wesley Harding is flawless from start to finish, and for me, Bob's most perfect album (in released form). It is a case of less is more with this album, and it packs quite a punch, in what appears originally to be from mild surroundings. Love the bibical themes and parables. Although the first side of Bring It All Back Home isn't as consistent as the second, side 2 is so utterly stunning i would have to put the album at no 3. Side 2 is just so completely flawless and it shows Dylan at his most surreal in terms of the imagery of his lyric writing. It is difficult to think of another single side of an album that comes close to eclipsing it. Highway 61 Revisited is perhaps next, followed by maybe Blonde On Blonde, or Desire. Blonde On Blonde is definitely up there. When it is good it is exceptionally so, and especially in terms of its surreal imagery lyric writing, although i find it slightly underwhelming at times with a few of those blues tunes, as good as they are, but maybe not prime Dylan. Desire is a great sounding Dylan album musically and pretty much from start to finish. The violin and Emmylou Harris backing vocals give it a unique texture, as does its themes of injustice and the mystical/spiritual. Maybe it isn't quite up there in showcasing Dylan's lyrical dexterity, but as an overall enjoyable experience it takes some beating. Not sure what order i'd put the remaining Dylan albums. I have a soft spot for Another Side, and Love And Theft is extremely enjoyable. His christian albums certainly have their moments, but for me, all three lack consistency and can be at times a little too heavy handed with the message .

Well done but missing out H61R and BIABH and Freewheelin' is like missing out Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth from Shakespeare's top ten in my opinion. Also how can you say Nashville Skyline is above Blonde on Blonde. We are all different, good luck and well made video.

We are a similar age, I love 70s Dylan and your Top 5 would be very similar to mine

Good watch this. I am a Dylan fan, but not a huge fan. Springsteen is my all time songwriting idol. I'm glad Street Legal is in his top 10, a fantastic album. Infidels is also underrated. Saw him during that tour.
