I’ve been using and giving Olights for five or six years now. They brought the same kind of quality to LED that Maglite did to incandescent. My most used Olights are keychain versions as I’ve always got them with me despite my others being so much brighter.

Love my batton 2s. Small enough to hold with your mouth while working hands free as well. The one with the charging case fits well in the map pocket in my driver's door.

Petzl makes a head lamp that auto adjusts to distance. Sppotlight, short distance light dgown to a reading light. Hands free and usb rechargable. I don't know how versatlile it is compared to your other lamps but it suits all of my needs.

OK, I get it now, this is a paid promotion. Would love to see you compare a few brands to see what you'd favour for various tasks like going to the ablutions, spotting what's out on river/in bush near camp, general close up tasks like map reading and rummaging in cruiser.

I get the idea behind the Stretch. But why the odd additional switch? You never reviewed the "standard" Olantern Classic 2 Pro. 1 entire week of runtime on the lowest amber setting. Got several of these, they were really a camp lighting game changer back then.

I do love my few torches from Olight. However, I don't use them as much as I first thought I would for 2 reasons (these are not bad reasons, just specifically my my own). 1: Two of mine feel like they would cause spinifex to spontaneously combust from from at least 178km away if I pointed the beam at it for more the 3 seconds. 2: I only need a light that bright to summon Batman. It is incredibly redundant to summon myself when I was in trouble. Other than that, I adore mine.

Check out Sofirn and Convoy. 95% as well built, far better battery options (non-proprietary), better led options including high-CRI, and much less than half the price
@MrSimonj19708 күн бұрын
I've just ordered a new Sofirn headlamp, even though my current one (SP40) is still going strong after 4+ years of daily use in all weathers. The new one is the HS21 - 2200 lumens, flood/spot/combo/red beams, TIR lens, USBC, High CRI flood, 200m+ throw, regulated buck driver, hand gesture control and rotary dial to change mode, and I paid £29 inc tax and shipping in the 11/11 Sale :) Can't wait to try it out on my early dog walks!

Can somebody please make a head tourch that has less functions, red first stage then a working white light, then off. Thats it.
@mr_outlived8 күн бұрын
Perun has souble click from off stage to red loght, then click to off. You dont have to go trought white light if you dont want to
@benjaminwilley35788 күн бұрын
@mr_outlived I shall take a look. Thank you for the information.
@MrSimonj19708 күн бұрын
New Sofirn HS21 has a rotary dial so you can turn it on in any mode, inc red, and a long press starts it in moonlight mode (very dim) or a solid press goes to the last used level (up to bright turbo). It does have normal white spot/flood/combo options as well, with High CRI flood (more natural, vibrant colours) Best new light out there and much cheaper than Olight!

Would these lights be available in South Africa?
@pounceonyou19588 күн бұрын
No, and if you order from the USA you will pay about half the value of the item in customs duties, then add shipping, which then makes them way over priced and not worth it.

Lots of misinformation here. These torches are readily available in South Africa from Olight South Africa or TorchSA. No need to import them yourself and pay excessive customs and excise duties. The Warrior X Turbo featured in the video retails for R3499.00 ($298 Aus), and all you have to pay to get it delivered to your door is the normal delivery fee charged by the couriers Free delivery for orders over R1000.00

Its me. Andrew. I appreciate that sentiment. But without funds, I can't make the other stuff you like. That's why I do this and a few times a year get shot down when trying to raise funds. I don't do sponsorships, for the same reason.

It's most probably illegal and unsafe, but that torch might just be the right tool for that stubborn uncoming driver that flatly refuses to dip his high beams? 🤔🤭

I've found it quite often when driving in South Africa. Its not happened to me in any other country. I'm curious to know why its a thing there.
@BubblesTheCat16 күн бұрын
@4xoverland South Africa has some of the world's worst drivers. It's probably a selfish attitude. It's not really a pleasure to drive in South Africa because of people's behaviour. It's sad because we've got some of the most beautiful scenery and some very good roads. Going out onto the roads is like going into a conflict zone. Really sad😥🤷♂️

As an ex overland truck tour leader it used to infuriate me that passengers hadn't been properly prepared and they'd turned up with a rinky dink head torch. You need something that in the blackest African night will pick out a hippo far enough away that you can stay out of its way. It can run a lot faster than you, and people get killed by getting between it and the water. Elephant, buffalo and hippo are all potentially, particularly dangerous animals if startled and they don't go round wearing hi-viz reflective bandanas so tourists walking to the loos can see them with a lousy head torch! The likes of the camping shops should be far more informant in regards to what you need for safari. Staff should be trained and obvious posters should be in all stores addressing this notion. Almost every trip someone came a cropper somehow due to night time visibility.
@atomicsmith8 күн бұрын
Head torches are generally best for working up close. Handheld are usually better for spotting and navigating. Very focused head torches are often disorienting, because they flatten everything at distance because the light source is so close to your eyes and therefore the shadows are out of your view.

The thing i hate about overlanding is the constant influx of new gear. Spend thousands on gear and kiting out your vehicle, and then 5 days later its out dated. It never ends. Its innovation but for someone who doesn't receive gifts from companies its impossible to keep up.
@MrDutchgrass8 күн бұрын
@@MrStevoovets don't worry, good gear does not turn into bad gear after 5 days!
@spexmaniacuk8 күн бұрын
Making you think your gear is out of date is the marketing man's job. In reality if you have bought something half decent it should last. Olight do make great torches, but they are usually too expensive, my favourite flashlight is a rechargeable nextorch, 1600 lumens on high long beam and pocket sized.

I enjoy these videos. They rarely make me go out and buy something that I don’t need. What they do is keep me informed so that when I need a new torch I will come back to this video.
