Great job. You aren't like a child for being afraid of spiders. I'm almost 60 and terrified of them. Here's an idea for you, Jesse. Get a proper cobweb broom. It's a long, long pole with a fuzzy stiff brush at the end. Before going in with your hose, use the broom to whisk the spiders off the ceiling. Work quickly and if you need to, throw the broom far away from you so the spiders can go away. Use your stable broom to clean the cobweb broom and use it again, sweeping away the cobwebs and picking up spiders to whisk them outside. The long pole should keep them far away from you. Now, start pressure-hosing in the doorway. Clean all around the door thoroughly and clean as far inside the stable as you comfortably can. Make sure you do the ceiling *before* going inside. Clean it carefully so there's nothing left to fall on you. This way, you should have shifted all the spiders away from the door and away from the ceiling. It should be safe to enter, but wait for ten minutes or so while the spiders move away. Now, go back and work your way into the stable, pushing everything away from you toward the back. Do the back wall thoroughly because that's probaby the dirtiest and the place where most spiders live. I love that you don't kill the spiders! Most of them won't (can't) hurt you, but they're still very scary to someone who has the phobia. The big spider was carrying her egg sac, so I think it was very nice that you left her to raise her family in peace. Don't ever be ashamed of having a fear of spiders! We're all afraid of lots of things and plenty of people are terrified of horses. You do very well!

There are long handled soft brushes made for knocking down spider webs. You could probably find them at any tack or feed supply store. I think that's what you need....... I also cleaned my stables at home once a year back in the day... And used the cleaning for an excuse to paint the stables in another color (bottom half) 🤣🤣🤣 When the stables where finished someone painted the bottom half light grey but without tape or a laser line so it looked terrible... That's how the yearly redecorating started 😅.. We lived there for 8 years and I didn't like black much although it is the most practical color.. I've painted it 3 shades of gray, royal blue, licht blue, and 2 shades of petrol.. I even stenciled horses 20 cm above the the painted part in the same color and then my 1.83 m English thoroughbred gelding was afraid to enter his stable and kept snorting at the stenciled horses 😅.. Oops...I guess he didn't like it😇 🤣 You did a great job! Spiderwebs are hard to clean with water.. A soft broom works better.. After using the broom you can power wash the stable a lot quicker..

I was almost as stressed out as you, watching you clean! Could I suggest, possibly, that you purchase a large vacuum. We live near the ocean, and I’m not sure if that is why, but our house, no matter how clean, has spiders and we use the vacuum to suck them up, (actually my husband sucks them up.). If you were able to go in with a ladder or step stool to the stables and vacuum out a lot of the spiders webs then maybe when you use the power hose it would be less scary! Just a thought! You did a great job. Such a lot of work caring for horses but they are truly lucky to have you caring for them. You really love them and take such care and effort to keep them healthy and happy! 😊
@creuvette294 жыл бұрын
Maybe you still have a lot because they just go out of the vacuum after you put it off ? And in my house we managed to get rid of some spiders we didn't want (like zoropsis) by letting others in some places, like steadota. The end result is quite good, Jesse! It's not easy to keep stables spotless. This video brought back a lot of gross memories for me even though I am not afraid of spiders - I worked for 10 years at a very large stable here in Canada. I learned a few tricks to keep spiders from flying everywhere and webs from sticking when you wash the walls. First, pick a cold day so you can wear a hooded sweatshirt (fewer spiders on your head!). Then before washing anything use brooms to sweep the walls and ceiling to knock down all the webs. It is still *very* gross but it was less gross than spraying the webs with a hose or a leaf blower. Oh and my mare also liked to squish her poop on the stall wall, though she preferred the wall with the bars for some reason. I never figured out an easy way to manage that...

I read about this recently - supposedly a mixture of 3 cups of water + 1 tsp. dish washing liquid + 1 tbsp. mint extract repels spiders/insects. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how well it works or how often you need to reapply it, but you can put it a pump spray bottle and seems like it wouldn't take terribly long to do. Pretty natural and safe solution, and great if it works - unless you don't like the smell of mint. :)

My son had a friend in the pest control business. He told us to use this same mixture to spray on the spiders to kill them. It worked but was super creepy to watch. And we live in Colorado where we have black widows. Poisonous spiders totally scare me. Jesse, are there poisonous spiders where you live? BTW, I LOVE watching you and Matt on U Tube and all your sweet horses and ponies. I don't have any horses but am very lucky to be able to do equine therapy.

Oh Jesse you really made me laugh, although I really felt for you at the same time, as I am petrified of spiders too!! Whenever power washing stables out, my rule of thumb was always, clean out all bedding, remove anything that could be taken out ie. hay nets(no horse wants to eat out of a wet spider and cobweb infested one) buckets etc, then brush down all the roof first with a long handled broom, then the walls and completely sweep out the floor, give the whole area a good soaking with a normal hose first, leave for an hour or so, then before it is all dry crank up the power washer and start cleaning everything. It helps a lot doing it that way and you dont get as much flying debris all over you, particularly most importantly no spiders on yourself!! Anyway keep up the great work hun🤗 ps. I notice Matt came in when you had finished huh, tut tut 😅 hehe love you guys xxx

Get a shop vac, a telescoping pole, some vacuum hose (I used the kind for swimming pools) and some duct tape. Tape the hose to the end of the telescoping pole really well; in the south we have a saying, "there can never be too much duct tape". Make sure to use enough of the vacuum hose so when you lengthen the pole you can reach the high spots without pulling the hose apart. Then you can vacuum all those spider webs and bits that get caught up in them before you start washing everything down; sucking up the spiders that dont have the sense to run away too. I feel you with the spiders, all crawling things have a place, just not on my body. Love cleaning vlogs, so many people do things differently and use an array of products and methods it's like you're always learning something new or better.

Jesse, if you read this may I give you a couple of tips to help you out - always clean top to bottom, I think you learned that one yourself just from the experience. Second, use a vacuum for cleaning the cobwebs like a shopvac (a powerful, hard wearing vacuum, but the house vacuum will do). That way you suck up all the cobwebs and you won’t have spiders flying around you. I think it would help your anxiety with the spiders. Then use the water sprayer. Finally, you might want to remove all the bedding before starting or at least pull it all away from the walls so the force from your water sprayer does not stir up the bedding and stick on your newly cleaned walls. You did a great job and barns are notoriously difficult to keep clean. I am constantly sweeping cobwebs down and I swear in a day or two they are all back.

I do the same. I used to shop vac my old basement regularly to keep them at bay. But I have killed a few by fire, it had a chance to run when I screamed and threw the log. Then I had to pick it up again to throw it in the furnace

I would never clean the ceiling, imagine all those spiders flying around and getting in your hair. 😩😩 You have my respect. Wear a hazmat suit next time. 👌🏽
