Cool update, congrats on facing your fears! I've found that when I decide to just strip down my fear and ask myself what's the worst that could happen, that the "worst that could happen" isn't very scary at all. If the dog barks unexpectedly, you may be a bit startled, but that's not all that scary. But when you put in all the thoughts and efforts and worry to avoid your fear, it just multiplies it so much more and it's then extra energy and hard work that I have found to be physically, mentally and emotionally draining too. But when you strip the fear down and stop all the avoidance tricks, it makes life so much simpler, easier and relaxing. So sometimes you may be around a dog and it may bark and you may get a bit startled, but in the end, that's not too bad! Keep up the great work!

@chriscoles9201 Thank you!😊 I feel though, that in this case asking 'what's the worst that could happen' is not very helpful for me. Because it's not about fearing what could happen, I simply get very anxious around dogs and I don't like that feeling. It's almost unbearable to allow it. So it's more about wanting to avoid that difficult feeling. But yes I agree, to gradually stop all the avoidance tricks is the helpful thing to do because that will ultimately lower the anxiety :)

@@juststutter Understood! I totally understand wanting to avoid difficult feelings in life! I don't stutter, but have had major anxiety issues over the years, so I find your channel very helpful because you discuss anxiety, OCD, etc. which I've dealt with for years. Stopping the avoidance tricks has really helped me get through a number of my high anxiety issues too, and just made my life just more stress free and easy going in general. So good luck with that moving forward, it's not easy but you'll get there, we're all works in progress! 🙂

With due respect, however, that old adage, 'There's nothing to fear but fear itself' is nonsense. We're afraid of certain things for a reason.

Screw that. I understand people are wired differently, but if you do actually go ham and lean into it, you'll actually understand what that means. Being afraid of snakes, growling animals and cockroaches are all scary but to a point only. Once you know how to deal with the and yourself, you don't even feel the fear but still get the benefit of being twitchy in case you need to act. Fight, Flight, Freeze. Just move the slider on a subject.

@ckblackwoodmusic Okay, but I wasn't really saying that (kind of, but it was not just an empty statement without an explanation). Indeed I'm afraid of sudden sounds for a reason, but a big part of that is because of my avoidance behaviors which come from fear of the fear.
