Great job, guys and girl 🐶😄 Maybe brush off the loose rust on the sump and spray on some rust arrestor next time, as they can rust through and start leaking 😅 I know from the Doblò my parents had that the car is a bit heavy on the front tyres and suspension. Alignment is a good idea and maybe fit some proper van tyres with a higher payload. Thanks for the entertainment and all the handy tips from dad and the inspector ❤

@@JonCouplandI was going to say this too, so yeah, good idea :D When you get the van's tracking seen to, get them to get someone to sit in the driver's seat, or put some sort of weight in the front. It can make a difference to the geometry.

That sump definitely wants brushing down and spraying with some form of rust protection and stone chip, as already said they are known for doing it and leaking through. Cracking work 👍

A grand job there. That oil pan looks pretty straight forward to be honest. I replaced a rotten oil pan on our aging 2007 Suzuki Ignis, looks pretty much the same setup. Managed to get it out and back in without dusturbing the exhaust, a faff but an additional can of worms gratefully avoided 😬

It's good practice to undo the filter housing first, as there might be old oil held in there, undoing it releases that. Pulling out the dipstick and unscrewing the oil filler also helps draining.

Morning Jon,Pete, Happy Easter A gentle watch for Sunday morning thanks A bit of advice ,when you replace the front tyres on the van look at upping the load rating of the tyre as these are quite heavy on the front end and that leads to tyre wear at a rate not usually found on smaller cars. Also whilst I'm here this mornings little film is a good example of adding clean oil to a dirty engine The reason I mention this is that small high revving Diesel engines like the one that you have build up quite a lot of carbon in the oil especially when fitted with egr systems like the one fitted to The fiat I would suggest that you talk it over with Pete and see what he thinks about using a flushing additive next time you change the oil & filter ,from experience I've found that a decent length of flush works wonders provided that the engine is fit ,and yours sounds pretty healthy to me. The way to do it is to bring the engine up to full operating temperature turn it off and add the flushing agent into the crankcase,and for the first time you do this run the engine at a raised idle about 1500 rpm for 20 mins or so until you start to smell the flush coming through the exhaust fumes which means that it's working its way into the piston rings a cleaning out the built up carbon and other forms of crud which has accumulated,once you can smell the flush going to work let it idle normally for another 10 mins then turn off and let it sit and cool down for a while so that all or most of the oil drains to the sump taking the crud with it also be doing it this way there is less chance of scalding oil when you remove the drain plug ,let me know what you think ?. Many flushing agents are available to purchase I however recommend Liqi Molly ,and also the Injector cleaners work wonders and I recommend a tin in the tank at every service,or at least once a year.

Makes a lot of sense and thanks for the comments. Dad says he is a bit weary running engine flush in an engine that appears to have been a bit neglected in the past. The rationale being: if some crud and gunk is dislodged there is a potential for a clogged strainer in the engine system. To quote Dad. He's a big believer in leaving well alone if it's still working ok 🙂👍
@DoubleZeroGarage9 ай бұрын
Agree with not using engine flush if all is ok, best left alone.

Plenty of work for the wire brush under there 🙄 The wire wheel on the grinder will work if you can get at it. I usually put one on the drill. I too have a vice on a chair, very handy. You can run the pads on sand paper to take the glaze off them, no doubt Pete knows that.

Well it seems you mucked up the oil change by jacking it up all wonky towards the passenger side opposite from the drain plug, so all the worst of the dirty gunk and sludge will have settled in the corner of the sump and will now mix with the nice clean new oil until the next change…..

If I may be so bold, in the words of my father-in-law; it'll be fine. It's only been a couple year since it's last change, not a lifetime. I'd say gunky sludge will be pretty minimal. You never get it all out anyway. But a good tip for next time nonetheless 👍🏻
