My First Azure Order - Azure VS Amazon, Which Is Better?

I ordered from Azure Standard for the first time and went a little crazy! I spent over $1000 and compared it to Amazon to see if it's really as good as I've heard.

When you order from Amazon your not guaranteed where it comes from. I love Azure Standard. I’ve been ordering from them for about 5 months now. I like that Azure puts in the description where they get things from. I try to stay away from things from China especially when it’s being consumed.

@@FermentedHomestead - That's not entirely true. If you can't pick your stuff up right off the truck, it is stored at the drop point along with everyone else's stuff usually in the same place. I have had some of my items taken by other Azure standard customers because they got there to pick up their stuff before I did.

@@g-whiz286 sounds like they need a coordinator for the drop off. I had my first experience last month and there were over 100 orders. We wrote our names on a paper or piece of cardboard and laid it in a horseshoe pattern in abc order and everyone got in line and unloaded and put items with the right name. So a lot of accountability. I have to admit I was afraid I wouldn’t get all of my order because I didn’t know how it worked at my drop off spot, pretty good system.

Lima bean creamy soup. Cooked beans in chicken or veggie stock. When tender ad one peeled medium red potato. One cup of fresh green beans. Two cloves of garlic n make sure the stock covers all veggies but just barely. Pour ingredients in whatever blender you have and add one cup of cream. Makes the best creamy Lima bean soup ever!

We divide our grains into 1 gallon Mylar bags (10" x 14", 5 mil) which get and 800cc oxygen absorber and are heat sealed. The oxygen absorber then collects the 21% oxygen in the bag and essentially vacuum seals the bag. Just opened our last bag of oat groats from 14 years ago and it was as fresh as the day it was packed. No pests (or molds, fungi, etc.) can survive without oxygen. The 5 gallon bucket only serves for rodent resistance and physical protection. Also, the 1 gallon bags are easier to work with than those 5 gallon Mylar bags.

Do a little research on diatomaceous earth to kill off any infestation of weevils and other bugs that can infest your grains. It’s much easier than the freezer method. Some people don’t have chest freezers and, when you freeze you introduce moisture that’s not desirable for long term storage. Diatomaceous earth is a mineral that humans are typically lacking. Don’t be discouraged by warnings, as with anything powdered, it not healthy to breathe in the fine particles. If that makes you nervous, just wear a mask. Most of us don’t because…well, in my case, I’m learning that anything the FDA has demonized is typically something that’s critical to health (there’s no money in healthy people).

The thing about spices and herbs and all of that a lot of that stuff has been radiated. And that is probably why it’s A little bit cheaper on Amazon because at azure you can get it organic and there has been no radiation put to it.

Thanks for posting this. I love videos that do comparisons like this. I am getting ready to place my 1st order with Azure. I do like what they are doing and love all the organics they have. One thing to keep in mind is the shipping costs. For me it's 8.5%. Not outrageous, especially on some of the bulk grains. You definitely have to shop around though. Like right now I can get 25 lbs of Einkorn for 69.00 with free shipping. Azure is 72.39 plus the 8.5% bringing it up over 80 dollars for the same thing at Azure. Forget Amazon for any wheat products. The nice thing about Azure is the monthly shipping. Gives me a lot of time to shop around on each item. One last thing for my consideration is the drive time and cost to go pick everything up. Not sure how long it takes to unload the truck but for me it's 2 hrs drive time round trip. 10 gallons of gas at 3.65 a gal is almost 40 bucks. So far it looks like the bulk grains are a good deal through Azure. Other things not so much. Many items are at least 1/2 the cost at other sources. So definitely shop around as many places also offer free shipping right to your door. Bulk grains are normally the exception. The shipping on those is oftentimes as much as the grain itself.

I love azure for almost everything you have! I'll have to get the jars of ginger, that's a great idea. I buy dog food containers with wheels to store all my beans and grains, they work great! The only thing I don't care for is their produce because it's refrigerated and doesn't store well once I get it home... But if I know I can preserve it right away it's awesome quality!

Someone might have already shared, but soy sauce is usually made with wheat (along with soy, check the ingredient list), so if you're trying to avoid gluten, I would suggest maybe trying liquid aminos (made from coconut) or getting a certified gluten free soy sauce!

You should check into bread beckers and grains and grit on youtube and listen to what they have to say on gluten. Einkorn flour is a great start! But you may consider a grain mill and making your own flour for even more health benefits.

I love that Azure gets NON irradiated spices ..I order most to fill a half gallon jar, so have been working on that for last 6 months, and 6 months before that ordered all the herbs and medicinal herbs so I have eat least a lb of each..the before that I worked on stocking all the essential oils I think we may need, trying to build an apothecary, and some like oregano also medicinal, ,and many double as a tea..its been fun but very expensive. Now as soon as this ankle is healed more .then just need to organize everything and make a master list of what I have.. I really need to get into fermenting...I know it's so good for us .An Amish woman showed me how to make beet kvass, which is delicious.I want to do some kraut, and other veggies..my stomach could use the help.

Great haul. Amazon sometimes has better deals but the products quality is questionable.. I ordered 5 lbs of organic Ceylon cinnamon on Amazon but when I received it, best before date was 6 months. You would wonder why they expect someone to use 5 lbs of cinnamon in 6 months…I like Azure Standard because they emphasize on the quality and if there is an issue with the product they will let you know upfront why the product is on sale.

Oat groats & Hulled barley makes great pancakes. And make breads with them. Look into getting a Mockmill 100 or 200 and you'll have instant flour at your finger tips!

Best way to cook oat groats or steel cut oats are in the instant pot. I start my instant pot in the morning and go get ready. They’re ready when I am and I don’t have to spend time watching them and stirring them. Caitlin Shoemaker on you tube has a ton of gluten free vegan recipes.

Sounds to me like you are having a histamine reaction to the gluten. Maybe look up histamine intolerance. The asthma the itchy skin the runny nose some anxiety etc etc etc. But you may also be interested in mast Cell activation syndrome, otherwise known as MCAS

@@FermentedHomestead The problem with that is that delivery times vary based on the route and traffic so one month it might be at 2 PM in another month it might be at 5:30, plus sometimes there are delays due to traffic and weather and the time has to be adjusted. It is not reliable when it comes to a schedule so you would need to have somebody that could have the flexibility to pick it up for you.

Check with your delivery coordinator. Mine will take it to her home and I can pick up there if the time doesn’t work.

It's easy! And once you join a drop, the coordinator will contact you with all the information you need. Start small, get a few things that you know you like.

Drops are typically close to an interstate. I have to drive about an hour. Some people drive a little longer. There are fewer drops in the Northeast, but Azure is working on that.
