i think this hot swap stuff should be the real future of EVs, all manufacturers should have a stock battery standard, pretty much like USB-C but it's the whole battery, you charge the battery at home and when you need a quick refil just stop at one of these and change the battery in 5 minutes, sure this needs infrastructure on the scale of country wide gas station infrastructure but don't think it's impossible in the future.

I think the future would be a hybrid of the two ways of charging your battery - battery swapping stations in major cities and regular charging stations in far-flung areas or along the highways or vice versa depending on which makes more sense in terms of maintenance cost
@ramadhiantoagung5086
@ramadhiantoagung5086 2 жыл бұрын
But tbh battery swap is more needed in main/interstate highways - not major cities. In cities (commuting), we are expecting home or office charging. So far commuting is feasible with electric vehicle. Much easier too since no longer need to make a trip to fueling station. The issue is when need to do longer trip.

Tesla already showcased this idea a few years ago. They didn't deploy this battery swap to the public due to concerns with higher wear to the stations. Generally not the best solution for large scale EV fleet since eventually you'll run out of fully charged battery, and also people returning damaged battery pack back to the station.(maintain cost was also higher than the EV charging station)

When i get my EV i can rely 95% for home charging so rarely need CCS charger at all. Most likely i could charge 11 kW at home but a bit safe to go 9 kW so won't burn fuses. Which means 77 kW battery fully charges under 9 hours. So i claim majority of people doesn't need battery swaps or much CCS at all.

I like this technology a lot, but the thing that "worry" me a bit is that, in a way or another, in case we would want to massively deploy this technology, it would require a lot of battery. Yeah battery are not *this* bad to the environnement, but I still think that having like, 10 / 20 battery per station just waiting for a car to pass by is a waste (maybe we could use this battery to sustain the grid ? still I think that this is too much battery needed versus having supercharger for the occasional need)

So many questions

1. The swap stations are fully tested in China for millions of swaps, stuck is rare to happen. 2. there are self-inspections for each swap, batteries with poor condition will be out of this cycle. .3. Since this is just a swap not a pick-up, the battery will be available all the time, of course , if many cars swap at the time, driver may need to wait until the batteries inside the swap station are charged again.

I have some questions regarding this vehicle. Can this car use any of the superchargers by Tesla? Also, when you swap battery from your, suppose new car, don't you swap to an older battery (with same kWh), won't you then feel the consumption is higher because battery has been used so much? Also what are your thoughts on resale value in the coming years? Will it be difficult to sell this if NIO fails to improve their upcoming cars?

#PublicSuperchargingInEurope is available in 14 countries (including countries like Iceland and Luxembourg). And anyone with a CCS port can access it using the Tesla app. I will test NIO at the Supercharger when I get the chance. Swapping is only possible for people who take a "BaaS monthly payment" on their battery. Through which as far as I understand it, you're not the owner of the battery so not many claims you could make. Resale value nearly impossible to predict. Will swapping take off, is the 150 kWh battery going to arrive and when? #neveradullmoment!

@@electricfelix Better place basically chained their customers to be using solely better place infrastructure. Not only by using the swapping stations, but also by trying to monopolize the charging process and force their customers to charge at home using only better place managed charging stations which came with a nice fee (they even tried to "standardize" the Israeli automotive charging cables and connectors to aid them with monopolizing charging in Israel which made alot of people very angry...) To add to all that, the car only did about 150 Km per charge and was pretty useless to inter-city travel. Nevertheless, I don't think that corporate greed was the main cause for its failure. While the swapping concept is a good concept (one of the main advantages in my point of view is that you dont "own" the battery which is the main component that devalues the car in time), lack of standardization and the cost of maintenance and infrastructure will take this idea down (again, the same way it took Better place down and the same way Tesla gave up on that idea).

Right now NIO offers vehicles on a "car subscription" (anywhere between 1200/month and 1700/month in Germany depending on flexibility of the contract) - within the subscription I think two swaps a month are "included".

WHY European car manufacturers havent agreed on 2-3 battery standards and then use the available gas stations to implement a standard swapping station for their car brands?!? It would have been so easy after all... But no... Everyone rather developed their own shit

Nio solution is good because you won’t need to change your battery in 3-5 years. In other rest cars you will need to change batteries and that would be a big cost for owners :/ So Nio solution is great just who will buy them when they will hear that they are madr in china car?! :/

cool idea but any company try to do this is not going to make any money, just not sustainable. Imaging you just got a brand new car and battery and someone in front of you had a 3 years old battery with over 50K miles on it and they want to swap yours with old one, hell no.

Cool idea, but battery swap process involve quite a bit of moving mechanics that will incease wear to the station&vehicle. You might also get a battery owned by a poorly managed user. This battery swap might be exploited just to get a new battery replacement from intentional users. Overall cool technology and idea, but not practical in the long run. Watch this idea fades in a few years.

I remember when Renault and a company called better place, tried the same concept her in Israel and failed miserably. There’s a reason no other manufacture adopted this concept .no one is interested in paying in addition to the price of the vehicle additional payments each time they want to replace a battery when there’s electricity in each house and solar systems in the market to help reduce costs. It’s just a greedy technique they use to keep milking your wallet in addition to the vehicles price. It dousing matter if it even takes 2 minutes to replace a battery when you can recharge at home and for a lot less money. They can forget about the Israeli market lol.

@Samir Dončić you get an eight year warranty on batteries exceeding most people ownership. And second of all, I wouldn’t buy a Chinese car if it was the only EV manufacturer in the world. A nation notorious of counterfeiting ripping off Patton stealing, hacking into companies stealing their databases and downloading designs and research saving them money only to implement in to their inferior version.

The thing is Chinese car makers will copy what Tesla is doing, and they will tell the world they invented it. Chinese labors are incredibly cheap, thus lowering the cost of pretty much everything in the manufacture. Sure, they make EV with afordable price, but the biggest concern is that all companies in China are pretty much owned by CCP, which they will always do something sneaky to any electronics to compromise your security and personal data. They are almost perfect, the only issues are their abysmal culture and government...
