Thanks so much for your honesty and transparency around what most feel too uncomfortable to talk about. Super helpful for up and coming directors

Great to see someone being so transparent about their fails! It’s rare to see this level of transparency. I’m from Madagascar, and it’s inspiring to see this kind of openness from someone so far away. Thanks for sharing your journey with us!

2 years late to this, but what a great video about the realities of filmmaking! Imagine if the commissioner hadn’t been on holiday and had insisted on the right casting or if the DP had insisted that the location wouldn’t work for moody lighting, or if you had lucked out with the steadycam op! It was really a story of poor communication in at least two of those instances. The more time goes on, as a DOP myself, I try to insist when I see a location isn’t right - sometimes a director just isn’t experienced or knowledgeable enough about lighting to know why, so it’s the DP’s job to set it up for success for them, even if they like the location for other reasons or if they have run out of options and money.

If only I could turn back time 🕰️ - but THIS experience was THE experience I needed to not let something like it happen again :)

The music industry is just very unprofessional and is the wild west. There is very little respect for the concentrators and filmmakers who put in the hard work to try to make a great piece of art. It’s also very confusing that labels don’t take these videos more seriously in a time where content is King. I’m curious to know how many filmmakers around the world confidence have been crushed or traumatized because of the music business.

If I ever get it to the Labels for music videos, I'll make sure that I'll either get paid full and do as they want or I ask for full creative decision. In the end... Whatever happens. I am going to make it.

that's rough. but I'm sure you learned a ton. I'd probably be very upset. I have to re-watch this video.. btw, random question lol - do you still have flat mates? it's hard to be on your own as you're coming up
@ScottPetersFilms2 жыл бұрын
No flat mates any more John no. An occasional house mate though.

Great video as always, thanks for the insights! Just wondering, did it backlash in any financial way with all the costs upfront (crew, location, talent, art department and so on) or did you get payed to cover those costs at least?
@ScottPetersFilms2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Christoffer 🙏🏻 Everyone / everything was paid, Just not me, but I only have myself to blame for that for giving up my fee to go on the video.
