In this video I call BS on the rule of thumb “if you can walk it, you can drive it”. I should have explained more why I say so. Instead of having a rule that overrides one’s own gut feeling, it would be better to assess each situation within its context. Instead of applying a rule of thumb, rather do your own assessment. What does the obstacle look like? Am I familiar with the area/conditions? What are the risks? What is my experience? How familiar am I with the vehicle I am driving? Is assistance available if I get stuck? and after all of that what does your gut tell you? Your opinion?

Thanks man, appreciate the support. But yeah annoyed that I basically convinced myself to go against my gut. At least it ended well. Good lesson to learn early on and in the "safety of my own backyard"

nice! good to know it was not that bad (life)! Some observations - your truck is too heavy, that big chunky bumper in my books is a no! That on its own probably weighs 50kg plus the rear, thats about 100kg with the tires on it! Your diff clearance on this hiluxes is not that great, hence, probably some part of the lower ball joint caught on a stone, your momentum was probably too slow...........just observations. I would suggest to reduce weight as much as u can.
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dinka. Definitely planning to change the tyres for lighter ones as soon as these are finished. And the new rear bumper is as light as it can be. Im going to weigh it while im in Whk, will give some feedback

hello! i am trying to make a plan trip in Namibia/botswana. I was thinking to start a trip in Zimbabwe, go to Botswana, rent a car and go to Namibia. do you know how better can I make it? and I heard, if I rent a car in botswana is cheaper than in Namibia. I will be happy to get your help! Ira -
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia 2 жыл бұрын
HI. Not sure why you want to start in Zim? Namibia would be much easier to start, things are just more organised. Then work your way to Zim, but it all depends on your situation. Yes prices are better, but you'll need a company that allows you to rent in Zim and drop the car off in Namibia, or will you return to Zim?
@iradyachenko1469

@@NickfrNamibia due to the flights. we are getting a better offer for flying into zimbabwe, rather than botswana&namibia. So we thought, of going from Zimb to Botswana. rent a car in botswana and go to namibia. Ending a trip Grootfontein to Bagani, to Okavango Delta, to Chobe. Leave a car somewhere near to Chobe (Kasane)... Someone told us, its cheaper to rent a car in Botswana, rather than Namibia. and also if you rent a car in Namibia and leave it in Botswana, they will charge a really big ammount of money... so we thought, that we could rent it in Botswana, and return to Botswana. Do you have any idea from where I can a rent a car?
@NickfrNamibia
@NickfrNamibia 2 жыл бұрын
@@iradyachenko1469 oh ok i see, if its flights then it makes sense. Yes will be much easier if you rent and return in the same country. The most common company is Bushlore.com , very good, have a look at their pricing online and see what you think?
