Way to go. Matt, I am a little emotional Right now watching that. Totally awesome and you should be so so proud of yourself. That is NOT an easy thing to do by any means and anyones standards. I cannot believe how you have mastered that route so quickly and precisely. I am mega proud of you. My heart would have been beating so fast if that was me and it is so challenging and scary. What an achievement - wow - just wow. Coreys heart must have been in her mouth filming that. This is THE best visually impaired video I have seen to date and I am just blown away by your tenacity, skill and bravery. Truly inspirational. I will be watching this video again. Totally amazing - no other words I love you guys so so Much Terry x

@10,000Steps Hello my lovely. How the devil are you? I hope better than when we last 'chatted"? I'm not too bad thank you - hoping 2020 will bless me with a guide dog. I have my fingers and toes crossed :-) I hope you have the most wonderful Christmas. Whats your first name? I always feel so rude when I comment to you as 10,000steps! lol

Hi Terry! Wow, thank you so much for that amazing comment! It was definitely a little bit scary, but I just need to remember that I needed to implement the skills I have learned to give me to the destination. I learned from all of the ball training I was doing with my trainer that freaking out and getting nervous definitely does not help the situation, but rather remaining calm and assessing my surroundings if I get turned around or lost is the best solution. We practiced the road the route the day before and I was able to distinguish some landmarks that would help me as I navigate it independently. I’m glad that you enjoyed the video and that you think it is the best one you have seen today, that makes me so happy! Yes, I’m definitely very proud and excited I was able to accomplish the goal we sat. It is exciting to see how much I have advanced and how much more independence I have gained as a result of the training that I just started a few weeks ago. Thanks again Terry, you’re such an amazing friend! :-) Matt and Corey

Hi! It’s so nice to hear from you once again, it has been a little while! Yes, you could still do absolutely anything that you want, you just need to mainly get over the mental and psychological aspects and go out and do it. The skills and the training are not difficult, but it is the mental game that is the hard part. Thank you so much for the right guys words, I’m glad that you love the videos! See you again soon. MATT

Good morning! Oh well, it is so great to meet you. Yes, I am very familiar with your father! We have talked now for a couple weeks back-and-forth through comments. It sounds like he is having a nice experience with the blind white cane and the services that are coming to his house to help him with orientation and mobility training. I’m very excited for him! As I told him, I am always here if you ever need to reach out and ask any questions or needs support in anyway, that is why I have this community. I sincerely appreciate you reaching out to me and for your very kind and supportive words! I’m excited for the future and for what we will accomplish on this channel. This channel grew in amazing 687% in the last one year, I’m excited to see where the next year will bring us! I just want to be here and offer my support and friendship to anybody who is blind, visually impaired, or anybody else who is interested in learning more about the people in this community. My commitment has been to just provide valuable information and a supportive network and community for anyone who wants to be here for any reason. I’m doing as much as I can and will continue to produce more content and provide more value in service in anyway. Thanks so much for watching and for reaching out to me, it truly means a lot! Bravo, Matt! I kept cheering you on, even though you did this earlier! Corey, it must have been nerve wracking watching him so close to the stairs. I watched each change in texture of flooring, knowing it would tell you where you were. This took me back to Boy Scout days and orienteering. Who knew, I'd be using the same skills this late in life. Well, back to cleaning house. I hope you both celebrate in style this major goal conquered!
@BlindtoBillionaire
@BlindtoBillionaire 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you. Yes, the texture of the flooring did help me distinguish where I was but also other landmarks. Corey and I only ran over this a couple times, so I still had to rely on the couple times of training that we went over this area to remember what to do. Oh yes, re-implementing the skills you learned earlier in life now. Thanks so much for watching, I hope you’re having a great weekend :-) huge hugs, Matt

@10,000Steps I'm on the mends I hope. I think each grand has had a turn at giving Grandma the sniffles over the last month. Hopefully since the last one was sniffle and sneezing on me Thursday, we'll all be over this stuff by Christmas! I hope you're doing well. Are you ready for Christmas? I've got the last load ready for my oldest to take to their house. We're doing Christmas first thing Wednesday morning there. My daughter in law has to work Christmas Night so we'll have to be done early, so she can go to bed and get some sleep. I'm so thrilled for Matt! I was holding my breath when he would get close to the stairs in the middle of the room. He's doing so well with his orienting. Before long, he'll be as quick as the Flash. Corey will have a hard time keeping up with him.

You are amazing my friend, simply amazing! In a previous video when you said you hadn't done this yet I was thinking, "OK he's a little nervous which is expected, I just hope he doesn't completely lose his confidence and bail." Instead you got your eye of the tiger on and took the hallway, stairs, and the cafe like the champ you are! Man you flew down that hallway and took those stairs like they were nothing. I could really see the confidence in you Matt and even thought, "OK now he's just showing off. lol I could tell the cafe was a little more challenging but you kept your composure and powered through and I am so proud of you man! When it comes to a VIP, there is absolutely nothing more exhilarating than independence!

Hi! Merry Christmas, I hope you have a very special day today! I completely agree with you, the more that we use our canes and become comfortable and confident with it, the more it becomes part of us and we never want to leave home without it. Congrats Matt! This is a terrific accomplishment. For myself, as a sighted person, I am very impressed by your ability to remember that length of a route- I would probably get lost even with sight lol. Also impressed by your ability to walk in such a straight line without a shoreline- again, I can’t even do that myself! Watching you navigate here, I would be interested to see how you could find an outdoor destination using nearby explorer or a similar app once the snow melts a bit. Though for you in MN, I hear that is never! Lol- hope you and Corey had a great vacation and look forward to watching your next video.

We did rehearse this route a couple times of the day before, which is why I was able to follow what I remembered. I would love to make a video as you suggested outside to our destination, LOL, but just like you said, we might need to wait for some of the snow to melt which will be in several months from now. LOL :-) thanks again for being here, I hope you have a wonderful day and will see you again on Thursday!:-) Matt

I'm proud of u. I had a friend that was blind. But he seen it as a bad thing the end of the world. But he passed away 2 years ago. He was 73. By the time he passed he was not wanting to except it. I love him but I would try to encourage him. But he would get mad at me. He was a good friend. I miss him. He was my roommate too.

Matt!!! Yes! This! Freedom, confidence, independence, skills. I'm in tears watching you navigate. One of the things that stood out to me was how you used landmarks to give you information on how to proceed. So often people comment to me or my daughter about her "bumping into things." When in reality, she's using the touch point as a landmark. I try to remind them it's valuable information for her to touch the trash can or the wall or door. That's information she needs to know where she is. Also, I'm impressed with your balance while at sail. I used to live on a ship and walking straight is a challenge. Keep it up! I'm so glad you are documenting this journey, so you can look back next December at how far you've come. (By the way... Just a thought.... If you have the technology in editing, perhaps Corey can do audio description voice over of your activity after the fact when you're navigating independently. So there would be narration of your movements. It would be a great way for those who can't see the video to still enjoy and learn from your experience while still giving you the opportunity to focus on your navigation while traveling.)
@BlindtoBillionaire
@BlindtoBillionaire 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you so much for watching the video and for your very sweet words! It means so much to me to hear from you and for your very nice comments! I completely agree with you, just like your daughter, walking around and finding different landmarks is essential to our navigation. As for your recommendation about having some type of voiceover dictating and it near rating what is going on in the video, actually after we publish the video we realize we probably should’ve done that considering we are marketing to the blind a vision impaired community who cannot see the video all the time. We apologize about that. We really should’ve done a better job, I’m so sorry but in the future we will definitely consider that! Thanks again for your very sweet words, it truly means so much to me huge hugs, see you again tomorrow :-) Matt

Daaaang Matt, that was really smooth! I couldn't see too well but you make much less noise than I do. I clink and clank everywhere when I walk in public. Cruise ships could be challenging to navigate because everything is narrow. Plus, things are sometimes asymmetrical in ways that don't make sense. Each floor seems to have a slightly different layout but the cabin doors are all the same. Staircases may end at a certain floor but resume at another. Several years ago, my husband had ten too many piña coladas at a beach resort shore excursion which put us in a very precarious possibly dangerous predicament. For starters, we almost missed the bus back to the ship. And when we got dropped off, I was scared to death I would step off the dock as there is no fence along the piers. Somehow I was able to lead my husband back to our ship and into our cabin where my husband passed out. Needless to say, I was terrified and pi**ed. No more all u can drink beach excursions for us! Hi! Thank you so much for watching my video and for the very nice words! LOL, I also make quite a bit of noise when walking around hitting my keen on everything. Oh wow, that sounds like a really scary experience the other time when you were on a cruise and almost missed it because your husband had a little bit too much to drink. LOL. It was a scary situation at the time, but probably funny now when you look back at it. I really dislike walking on docs that do not have a side rails like you were describing, I always feel like I’m going to walk right outside. I’m glad you made it back safely :-) thanks again for watching, I always love hearing from you! Huge hugs, see you again tomorrow.

Hey Neil, LOL, the funny thing is I didn’t even know that I tipped over a wet floor sign until afterward. Corey told me that I did and I literally had no idea. LOL. Those things are annoying they should just be knocked over anyway. Yes, the ship does rock from side to side as you may have noticed when I was walking down the hallway, there was actually quite a bit of movement. I like the cane, I could tell the different textures of the floor which did help me a couple times during this video. Thanks so much for watching! See you again on Monday :-) and thank you very much for the encouragement, I’m glad I was able to do it! :-) MATT

Yeah, I do too. Usually, the floor isn't wet anymore, but they just haven't picked up the sign yet.

I’m so glad you met your goal! It’s really awesome that you set that goal and worked towards it and were able to do it, and even working on improving your skills while on vacation. I notice you saying things like “I know most of you guys do this every day and probably don’t think it’s a big deal”when you are talking about using a cane, and I just wanted to remind you that we all started where you are. Everyone starts with small successes and works their way up. So don’t be afraid to be proud of your accomplishments no matter how big or small, I promise we don’t think it’s silly

Good morning Cayla! Thank you so much for watching the video and for your very nice words. That is a great point, sometimes it is very easy to overlook the fact that all of us were at the same point and basically started with no skills. I suppose it is similar to the KZbin channel, both of us started nearly 2 years ago with zero views, zero subscribers, and zero videos, but now look how much we have grown since then! Which by the way, I have been anxiously awaiting your arrival at 2000 subscribers, you are so close! That is really exciting :-) it is exciting to see the growth I have had in independence in just the last month since I started the training, I’m excited to see where the training and skills will bring me in the next few months, or even a year from now. Thanks again, I appreciate hearing from you! Have a nice Monday :-) Matt

Hey you amaze me. And I remember when I was in Hawaii, I was at an abatement 10 sdory, but I was on the the fived flor, and I whant to get a soda so I told my brother I'm going to get me a soda from the vinting mesin, so I just went to the elevater, and hit the first flor, buy my soda, then go back up. Well guess what? I he doesn't beleve me 😅😅 he had to prove I'm doing it by myself without an asistant. But there was no one at that time. Besides I was already use to the place. So my word of advice for you, is to go ahead be advegerous, take time to get to know each place you visit.

Hi! Thank you so much, that means a lot to me. LOL, it’s funny and awesome that you were able to go down and get something to drink for yourself and that your brother cannot believe you. I love it! That was so cool! Thank you for the encouragement and for the suggestion, just go ahead and go out on it adventure and learn. So my sink. Thanks again for watching this! See you guys tomorrow and the next video.

WOW! AWESOME ! Let me say awesome is a word I never use, probably a generation thing me being in my early 60’s. So for me to say awesome you did way better than fantastic!, see I’ve used that word how many times now? You have done a fantastic job of negotiating that course! I am so impressed! The stairs! Wow I really didn’t think you could make it down so easily one hand holding your cup, the other the cane and you didn’t use the railing. I still have almost 20 degrees of vision and I couldn’t do as well on the as you, on the stairs or on the floor. Great job. Corey must have been panicking inside when you came close to some stairs to the left side. Enjoy the ship 👍

Hi my friend, thank you so much for watching the video and for using the word awesome it so many times! LOL, I’m glad you were able to expand your vocabulary even though it is not within your generational vocabulary. LOL, I’m just kidding with you! I really appreciate your very kind words! It is a course we have walked a couple times and we practice the day before, but this is the first time I did it independently. Actually the stairs on my left were actually one of the markers that I was using so yes it probably looks scary when I was walking right towards them, but that is actually what I was looking for. Thanks again for watching and for your very nice words, it truly means a lot to me! Have a wonderful day and see you again tomorrow. MATT
