My first video log taking you through my experience selling art at a comic-con / comic book convention. The event took place in the UK at York races and was held by Unleashed events. This was only a small single day convention to start with, but my set up would be the same even for a larger weekend convention.
I sell mainly stickers, enamel pins and keyrings, although I did have some smaller prints and even a few magnets at my stall.
I worked pretty hard on my set up, and stressed about it a lot on the weeks leading to the comic-con! :D But I am glad I finally gave it a go, even if the end result was not quite as perfect as I would have liked, there were a variables to take into account, as mentioned in the video! I will hopefully be selling at more conventions very soon, if people do enjoy this kind of video I will try make more of them in the future.
How much money I made at comic con & the costs / profit involved: • How much money did I m...

I am starting to look into doing conventions too. This was very useful! But I wished you would have gone into pricing and costs of setting things up. Because that's the part I have the most questions about. Would you concider making a video about that?

Hey, thanks for watching! Yep I was thinking about doing a whole video talking about how much I made, and the costs involved such as stock and venue fees. I will try get something made in the coming weeks so stay tuned :)

Hey, I used to work in retail and I’m having first comic con this week in Cape Town, this video was very informative. What I learned from retail with regards to sales is that people buy from people, so with regards to people walking by without even noticing, you have to remember that it’s all in your power to make yourself seen and known, ie instead on sitting in your both, you could have someone else’s watch your both while you step out and go meet people. And spread your word, and allow people to invite themselves to see your products through conversation.

Thanks for watching. Sounds awesome you will have to let me know how you get on! Unfortunately the convention I went to I think were the wrong audience for me at the time as they seemed to be very heavily Star wars / Marvel super hero type fans ( judging from the cosplay and products they were buying) I didn't have too many products like that. But I was quite limited on my products in the sense of I was selling almost solely stickers which of course limited my audience massively too.

Hi! this was really interesting, I went to that con and we had actually bought one of your skyrim pins! Did you have to set up as a sole trader or as an offical business to sell at cons?

Hey thanks for watching & thanks so much for your support at the convention! Hmm I don't think I set anything up specifically for the convention if that's what you mean. I just sell on etsy as a small side business and decided to give that convention a go, so I am probably not very qualified to answer your question properly - useless answers I know! But basically no I didn't have to set anything up specifically as a business to sell at cons, as long as you still pay your tax on profit etc, others might be able to provide a better answer!

@@SketchedbySte thank you for answering! That helps a lot actually, not a lot of websites talk about the business side! Thank you :)

I have been a subscriber now for about a month, really like your content. I like your reviews of the set books I think your next convention you should put your KZbin Sketched By Ste drawing of the beautiful girl in front of your booth or at least visible so KZbinrs will recognize your channel. Might help 🙂

Thanks for the sub! I didn't actually have a banner at all for my first convention, I was really tempted, but I thought I would start small and invest as I go. Deciding what to put on it is the difficult bit! I love your suggestions, although I have to be careful as a lot of conventions don't like you using anything 'risky' let's call it haha. I would love to show more of my pin up work, but again not many places are as open to you showing them without a ban, which is a shame.

As an artist how do you go about selling copyright characters etc at conventions ?

It’ll usually just be considered fan art and will be fine. However, they’re some conventions that are very stingy about and will not allow it whatsoever
