My First Concrete Stairs Using My Mudmixer
I had about 3/4 of a pallet of concrete left over from the solar project so I decided to pour some stairs.
I've never made concrete stairs before so I had to figure out every step.
I wish I had purchased the Mudmixer Chute Extension.

You are one of the few people that I have seen with the Mud Mixer that produces a reasonably stiff mix. You did the stairs in a nice organized manner. I am old school and like sand, gravel, cement and water in a Multiquip mixer - but when my age creeps up I will be getting a mud mixer - but for the moment I just hate bagged mix.

Looks good for a first attempt and will still be there in many years time. If you are pouring the steps together you need to use a dryer mix so that it flows less. That will also mean you will have to put more effort into moving it and compacting it. There will also be a lot more load on your forms so you will need to back up the plywood with timber or it will move. You place concrete under the risers then top it up. You need to top it up within half an hour or so or you may get a cold joint (crack) where the new and older concrete meet. I doubt I would have poured it in one because of the expense of the timber to shore up the ply and it would be a lot more work in one go. I may have done two steps at once.

Fortunately I had lots of free time for this project so I took my time and only did one step at a time. Since I was waiting a few hours between pours, I made the boundry between the layers very course and lumpy to prevent poker chipping.

I love your honesty “I don’t know what I’m doing”. 😂 Questions: 1. After each step…did you actually wait until that step cured for days before you did the next step? 2. How will you stop the rain/snow/moisture from getting under the top step? I’ve seen a little flat header on the top to get away from the slope before, but not ending on the rise. 3. When you drop the bag into the hopper, does the water hose hook directly into the machine to mix with the powder at the base of the hopper at exact measurements to get the mix you need? Or is the entire bag’s worth mixed together within the hopper, then it is ready to pour? Great video! I would love to make stairs up the one side of my slope from the front to tie into the concrete pad in front of my walk out basement door…except that we do so many different activities on that side that I think the stairs would actually get in the way. I usually wait a doy or two before I put my weight on it. I was doing 2 steps a day. One first thing and one after 3pm
