These are amazing! I'm new to punk. I'm all over the alternative community, but I want to look into punk because there's so much to learn and so many cool things inside of it. I just got introduced to crust pants like yesterday and just..wow. they take so much time and patience. I think I may start a pair of crust pants/ patch pants as I learn more. I've always leaned more towards the emo/scene part of the alternative community, but I've been in it for a while now and it's a little boring. I'm trying to learn about the gothic community and I'm especially curious about the punk community and all its subcultures. Mad respect for your bomb ass pants dude!
@BlackMetalRebellion4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and support! The Punk "culture" is varying depending on person to person. But yeah. The "crust" version of patched pants came from living on the streets and wearing out your clothes (therefore actually NEEDING to patch them up. Most of them couldn't afford band patches so you'd see that most of them were just random material swatches stitched on (with MAYBE one or two actual crust band patches). My pants here aren't really super reminiscent of THAT culture/style but I like the look and enjoy the sewing and placement of patches etc. I know people love to come here and rip me a new one for "not having any crust bands on (my) pants" but it is what it is. I love punk. I made the pants. People don't like it, they can fuck off lol. Cheers and have fun!

So you're hopping from one scene to another cause you got bored? Wow... Punk is a lifestyle, it's not the clothes or the hair or whatever. Real punks will know the difference if you're a true punk or just some kid rockin' jackets and pants covered with patches. Just a heads up on that.

@@qruze9162 That depends on you my dude. If you want the look, then buy a buncha patches and sew em on. maybe can you do a stitching tutorial ? i always stitch my pants/vests wrong when i stitch and they usually fall off haha
@BlackMetalRebellion2 жыл бұрын
It's basically just a learning curve process you have to go thru. Find out which type of stitching and thread works best for which project. Be it battle jackets or crust pants etc. For battlejackets regular straight line stitching should be fine (never glue on patches). For crust pants, some people suggest using dental floss as thread but I feel using thicker thread will work fine. Just use the parallel style stitching for those.
@JaymeSplendid2 жыл бұрын
You don't feel the floss at all, burning the ends is a must and the majority of the floss is on the outside anyway. Trust me on this. I used to make my own "Skinny Jeans" before you could buy them by taking them in and adding about 10-12 inch zippers on the back of the pant legs. I'd cut a line from the cuff and go straight up then sew the "coat" zippers while open onto the leg to match the cuts. To take them in, which was the first thing id do while doing the back zippers last, I'd put them on inside out,pull and pinch the jeans to the desired tightness from the inside of The leg, all the way to the crotch and back down then mark the spot with a marker. Id then cut out the excess fabrics by cutting along the lines I made. I'd then do the classic hem sew and then if go back and do the pattern over the cut one would do when sewing a patch. I found the waxed dental floss was much stronger than normal thread and using colors like red or green made the work pop out. These days you could now just put zippers on the back of the jeans these days without having to take the pants in as you can buy skinny jeans. With the zippers in the back and wearing a pair of engineer boots looks really good too.
@BlackMetalRebellion2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to talk about and explain all of that! Although I still feel floss would be such an inconvenience for me to use lol.

@BlackMetalRebellion4 жыл бұрын
No worries, t-shirt scraps probably won't be the strongest material. I cut square patches from old black jeans that don't fit anymore. Way sturdier. As for the paint, I buy non-water based acrylic paint from Michael's craft store. The stuff in the squeezable tubes. Don't get the garbage little bottles from your Dollar Store. That stuff won't stay and will just scratch off. Cheers! Hope that helps :-)
@daveyleeriot4 жыл бұрын
You can use just about any kinda fabric material homie. If it doesn't hold up, fuck it then you patch it over with sumpin else. I've made a few outta t-shirt and bandana scraps. Textile canvas is pretty durable. I wouldn't recommend too many embroidery patches unless they are hella thin, bc the thick ones are harder to sew.

"Crust" pants are technically patched pants that have Crust Punk band patches on them. Usually black and white in theme, and mostly just plain black patches with a couple band patches thrown in here and there. But, I just made it however I wanted at the time. These pants no longer exist and have been basically dissected to death. Sold most of the painted patches to my sister Tiffany "Pheonix" Bailey.
