Congratulation, Tony! Thank you for sharing. I started learning Morse code when I was a child and lived in Kazakhstan, in the 70s; my neighbor and I connected our houses with 3 wires and used toy equipment to practice. A little later I made a 1-transistor CW transmitter, went on top of a small hill by the house, and my friend was listening on his radio. I transmitted "If you hear me, come out!"... He RAN out of the house, and we both started jumping and screaming :)) I made many CW DX contacts since then, but to this day that one remains the most memorable and satisfying. Some people don't understand this hobby, Morse code,... To them it's rubbish. To us, ham-radio guys, it's science, friendship, sport, excitement, goals, learning new things,... something that helps us be happy. Good luck to you, my friend!

Very cool! I made my first CW mode QSO this month, a guy in a FB group convinced me to get on the air, we used FB messenger to coordinate and made it happen. I signed up for the CW Academy last April and the next opening was Jan-2018..I'll be practicing between now and then!

Congrats ! I’m leaning toward the CW Academy for the same reason. If I don’t have a structured process, I’ll have 18 reasons to skip this and that and put off one of the steps. This is a language. And I am determined to become fluent. 73 and cu on the HF bands - W3GX

Your first CW qso went a lot better than mine. I didn't copy much other than the other hams call sign. But, it got me going and now I've had thousands of CW contacts. Still working on my code to try to get my sending error free at speed with a paddle. Congrats on your accomplishment!

Congratulations... I'm David XE2AD (ex XE1REW) and, after 13 years since I got my first ham radio license and studied to pass the CW exam in those days, I returned to CW now, it was hard for me to start again but this last weekend I started to transmit in CW and I had so much fun !!!!!! Glad I decided to get CW again and regret I didn't do it before. Hpe cu in any freq. very soon. 73 de XE2AD.

Congtats on yr first on air cw contact. One comment, you mention that this is at 12 wpm. I think I disagree, 12 wpm is abt my max speed and this seemed a lot slower. I would guess this is abt 8 wpm or so. Either way, keep it up. Good job.

Quite an accomplishment Tony. Keep up the good work! (Especially on QRP!) If you tune into the cw portion of the band (80, 40, 30, 20, whatever) and just listen to QSOs while you work on your bench, you will find the faster code begins to make more sense. It's how I went from 13 WPM to 20 WPM to get my extra in '95. Retired now and meaning to work more CW so maybe we can chat. BCNU es 72 de k6whp dit dit

Congrats to your Tony. I start CW Academy here in September and looking forward to it. Maybe you could do another video that is more in depth on your experience with the class. I decided I needed to sign up for the course (self motivate by pressure) in hope to finally learn it. Good job and good video. Hope to make a contact with you on the air.

That's great! I just signed up for the class. I have wanted to learn CW for a while now. I just ordered a KX2 thinking that I was going to be able to use it for CW QRP. I have been studying but loose motivation when I don't see a lot of progress. Hopefully the structured format of a class will keep me going! Have you tried using the keyer for digi modes on the KX2?

Congratulations! I can remember my first contact years ago. Why was your contact using question marks instead of periods on the first go around?
@TonyKD8RTT7 жыл бұрын
Gary Krause thank you! In the CW Academy, we didn't learn periods, instead just using . The question marks were usually sent when I made a mistake and I think Ed did a few times to separate repeated model numbers.

Well congratulations again! CW is my favorite mode and especially QRP. It looks like you'll have a lot of fun with the KX2 and thanks for the review that you did on it. It was very informative! Gary, N7HTS

I'm still learning, so forgive me for asking - is it normal to send/copy at one speed, but have extra long spaces in between characters? The training apps I've been using keep the speed consistent, and this was WAY easier to copy for me simply because of longer spaces between characters.
@StanFerris5 жыл бұрын
Hey Dovid, I'm a cw learner, and yes characters at faster speed with more spacing between is called "Farnsworth" method. Many apps and software allow for this.

Thanks for watching Tom! I did not end up taking level 2 yet... I think they were too booked up and bumped me, but I’m still planning on doing it. I agree though, it is such a good way to learn. My brother actually just finished level 1 tonight, so I’m planning to work him soon!
