I like your enthusiasm. Dealing with more than one agency can end up being difficult in terms of updating your availability and building up a working relationship with each agency. Temporary ongoing positions are obviously good because you are working in the same place all the time and you know the vehicles, the people, the goods etc and you can relax a bit more. It is surprising how many places run with agency drivers in constantly. Most agency drivers have done weeks where they have been at 3 or 4 different clients. This does happen, but it is not that common. If you do go somewhere and it doesn't work out, remember that it may not be you that is the problem, it may be them. Remember getting 3-4 shifts is not the end of the world in the quieter periods. You will be out for 6 days every second week in the busy periods. One last thing, if an agency starts giving you 6am phone calls saying can you be at a client an hour ago, politely turn down the offer and don't work for them again. At the end of the day you are not out there to pick up odd shifts at late notice. A good rule is that if you don't have a shift by 8pm the night before, then it is a day off the next day.

So many people have commented on that Scania lol. We was going downhill when he was in the 2nd lane. I knew that he was heavy and needed the momentum, as soon as we started climbing he dropped back to a snails pace. Probably would of done more harm than good if i would have tried to slow down. I do always slow down for overtakes though. Even tho no frigger else does for me haha!

I did class 2 for six months mostly food and drink deliveries in cage's, hard physical work lot's of handballing. The driving is the easy part, but i found you get to a drop, nowhere to park, then the customer says your to early or to late, next minute the office ringing asking to fit another collection in, or cage's loaded in wrong order, nightmare.Also if you have an accident or get points whilst at work it effects your personal car/ motorcycle insurance/licence.

Don't worry about agency work etc Because a person can drive a 7.5t truck on grandfather rights if you passed your car licence before a certain date Eg if you are approx 45-50 ish and passed your car test early 90's etc there is an exact date you only need to do 35 hours of drivercpc in a classroom Eg 5 days drivercpc course and you can do 7.5t which still has driving hours working time directive and digital tachograph etc for those that only want to drive a small truck But for anyone doing agency driving at the moment or about to Make sure you try and save two months money because work can get scarce in January and February especially if we are nearing a recession because class 1 and 2 drivers have all 4 classes etc van 1,2,3 to float between etc which makes it difficult for those with just 7.5t or van or just class 2 as you will be competing with class 1 for class 2 and 7.5t when the work hoes quiet in January and February

Mate, love your videos. Come across you as a recommendation from KZbin. Watch the road legends a lot. Just wanted to say you rememinded me of me. I made the bold decision to quit my job (wood machine engineer) and do my class 2. Got the ball rolling in Feb this year and end of April had passed. A week later I had a full time position at Bradfords building supplies. They offered to pay for my hiab, remote hiab and forklift training. I couldn't believe it. I had 3 days as a passenger/drivers mate, then out on my own. Still remember my first day on my own. Absolutely shitting it but a huge smile on my face as I was bumbling down the road. Loved it. So pleased I made the decision to go for it. A month later I was taken out of the 12ton, 23 x 7.5 foot DAF and put into a 17ton, 30 x 8 foot 4 DAF. Back to shitting it again expected to drive down the same tight and winding roads. I live near Landsend and work out of Longrock depot. Anyone who knows Cornwall will know what I mean about right roads in a large vehicle. But, the big smile was still there. Using a crane to unload cool as. Its not work. I get paid to drive around in a big tonka toy. I love it. Love it love it. There are a lot of rules and health and safety which is annoying but when I'm in my cab I'm as happy as can be. 5 months down the line still love it. I'm glad there's another driver out there who's seeing and experiencing it like I am. Keep up the vds mate, I'm really enjoying them...

@jaymanleonard5 жыл бұрын
@@Deady2012 the negativity is quite incredible. People don't realise that everything they own, eat and live in at some point was on the back of a lorry. I learned very quickly too how poorly car drivers treat you. They've got to be in front of you, at any cost. Mental they are. But they've cured me of my road rage too which is a great positive from all the negative. First few weeks in my lorry, if there'd been a microphone in there you'd think I had tourettes! I just laugh at them all now. Just bumble down the road smiling away remembering I'm getting paid to sit there and do something I love. And the money will only get better as my experience increases. At 37 I just wish I'd done it sooner. Much happier and earning more than I ever did tinkering with machinery...

Nice video mate. Keep it up! I came on the comments to say about no bonnet catch for the LF's but I see other folks have got you covered there. Advice from me would be do much more mirror checks. You just can't do enough of them. Things around the truck change so quickly especially with so many car drivers, motorbikes and cyclists trying their best to get past you any way they can. If you're in a queue keep an eye out for emergency services too, and in town, windows down. A few times I've heard things in blind spots. Your doing grand though. Make sure you do good walk around checks in the mornings, especially as agency as you don't want the blame for any damage/unreported issues. Things like oil and screenwash often get neglected and with winter coming you don't wanna run out of screenwash. If it's sub zero temperature take a 2l bottle of water out with you for when wipers freeze, you can splash the window when you do drops. You can thank me later. Haha!

Deady 2012 there easier to drive than class 2 mate honestly. Get yourself a cheap eBay truck Nav aswell there great for the money. Mines never put a foot wrong and it was only £50. I’d defo consider your class one. The job is so much better. Also pretty much every place you go to would have already had a delivery by truck so there geared up for your arrival and most places are just big retail distribution centres in a class 1 no multi drop on back streets.

Agree with this mate, I'm new to the whole HGV scene and as soon as I got my class 2 I went straight in for class 1 and now I'm delivering containers. Very clean easy work, as for going down town centres I only use my sat nav as a guide for low bridges etc. If you can see it's directing you towards a town centre and you don't feel it's correct go the other way! There's always a way out. Good shirt btw! MOT

Agencies are wank. Let’s be honest. They go on about driver shortages but all because I cannot do a monday if not done by 4pm I can’t get any work, across multiple agencies. And this is with offering days, nights, weekends ect. (Class 1&2) I’m a year or so in too. But there’s one company that i go to and even though it’s not what i want ideally, i love it there. The staff are great, and the job is easy enough so i’ll always go. I find once you’re in somewhere they’ll request you so just always be happy and ready to do anything. People moan but i’m the same as you. I get in and i’m happy, i can sing like i’m beyonce and potter about getting the job done. It’s an easy life, even with the long shifts.

Came up as a recommended video thought "oh christ here we go another bloody hero" but in all fairness mate you've got a really good attitude towards the job , as in realising your just starting out and not scared or embarrassed to ask for advice . Now I really don't want to sound like a big headed know it all honestly, but I've been driving class 1 for 39 years constant tramping all over Europe with every sort of trailer from abnormal loads to what I'm doing now ADR chemical tankers , so if you ever need any advice or help don't hesitate to ask . One thing I would say is buy yourself a Collins road atlas Google and sat navs are brilliant but one look at an atlas and you'd have known exactly where Clitheroe was; sometimes the old Way still has its place , good luck with it mate. Oh by the way that trucker Jay bloke is a fucking bellend who very nearly caused a major disaster in a chemical plant in seal Sands the prick 🤔

he took a tanker of veg oil into Seal Sands terminal a highly flammable dangerous place , they store a lot of high consequence dangerous chemicals there I mean millions of gallons , so as you can imagine the rules are very strict on anything that can create a form of ignition, the bellend was walking round on top of the gantries where the flammable solvents are loaded mobile phone on making a fucking video the tit !

@5183adam5 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm new to. Only did buddy shifts so far. Anyway the strapping down with rachet and straps who showed u how to? My problem is we do lessons to learn to drive a truck. Then once we pass we know nothing. We aren't shown how to secure loads. How to get in and out of ports. It's just once we get a licence we still know very little
@Deady20125 жыл бұрын
I learned how to Ratchet whilst scaffolding. I'll demonstrate in my next video for you mate. Securing your load is basically your responsibility! If you don't think it's secure then make it secure it is basically as simple as that. It is nerving. I had 2x1tonne bags of sand on the back of my wagon on Friday & didn't have a clue how to secure it. So i put 1 strap over the middle and one round the back to stop it from moving. Its overkill and probably wouldn't have moved if i didn't strap it, with it being a tonne in weight lol, but in my opinion its better being safe than sorry & the person that says 'You really didn't need to do that,' isn't the person who's responsible for your load neither is he the driver of the vehicle.
