Don't avoid "touristy" places in Cape Town. They are world-renowned for a reason and you will find just as many locals there as tourists. Capetonians enjoy climbing their mountains, dining at the Waterfront or MOJO market, exploring the many craft and food markets, etc. There are also many great vegetarian restaurants in Cape Town

@bronwynhodges895
@bronwynhodges895 Ай бұрын
@pierre2898 they do exist, but not on the scale of CPT. The Genii index has reported the gap in CPT as higher, mainly because people in CPT can't afford accessible housing close to where they work and spend most of their income on transportation. Jhb has loads of decent, more affordable housing spread around the city. And a black middle class that does not exist in CPT.

Hey Eddie, I see you like vegetarian and pizza. There’s a great pizza place that meshes local SA ingredients with authentic Italian pizza making (the owner is from Italy). They have an insane amount of veggie options. It’s called Lievita in Greenpoint. It’s worth your visit, especially if you go to V&A Waterfront for the art museum and then Robben Island. If ever you’re back in Johannesburg, go to the Apartheid Museum. It’s a life changing experience for visitors to learn about the country’s history.

Welcome Eddie! Thank you for visiting. A few notes: 1. Capetonians are introverts, Joburgers are extroverts. Also you’re in like a sleepy neighbourhood, not exactly the cool place to be 😂 2. Table View is famous for its wind and it’s a world famous kite surfing location because of it. 3. That pizza looked sad AF 🤣 I know exactly what that tastes like and it’s not the one. Try Pizzashed, Ferdinandos or Bacini’s near Lion’s Head. 4. I feel like Spar cakes are what cheap coworkers buy on their birthdays 😂 5. Aquelle is fine but Valpre is the one. 6. Why do you like carrot juice? 7. Take the Gautrain from Joburg airport and you will be saddened by the deep, deep poverty. The highways in Joburg just don’t take you through like CPT does. 8. I just did a video on the cable car so that may help you. Looking forward to seeing more! Hope you had fun! 🎉

What you said about the taxis make sense. Better to be safe than sorry. As for the duplicate addresses. Earlier those where separate towns in the earlier years. But the city expanded so smaller towns became larger cities. That why you would find something like that. I've also lived in cities where it used to be one street. But throughout the years they bought out and built something else in the middle of it. So the street would end and then continue somewhere else. Rustenburg comes to mind here.

You’re spot on on your analysis of Cape Town. It is a very beautiful city, however the disparities in wealth are right in your face. This is where you find the poorest of the poor living right across dollar millionaires, and it’s a stark reminder of how unequal this country really is. I’m a Jo’burg guy, who has visited Cape Town many times, and I’ve always felt like Cape Town’s racism is just on another level. You’ll get judged a lot, based on the colour of your skin, and I have found that it irks a lot of these racists that Joburgers just know how to put them in their place. We are more open and will talk when something is not right. Apart from that, Cape Town is a real beauty - I’d even go as far as saying the most beautiful coastal city in the world. Unpredictable weather, but an amazing holiday destination!

I am not a Capetonian, but from visiting, I realised that the mountain is almost a character or a person. It is an unescapable presence. There is more than one way to enjoy Table Mountain apart from going up with the Cable Car. There are numerous walks and cycle paths that are used by locals. It gets you out in the open and up close and personal to the natural beauty of the place - and it's probably not going to cost you an arm and a leg.

If you are still going to traveling around South Africa try going to Durban next then East London. To a better picture of South Africa and it's diversity.

Cape Town will undoubtedly defend itself fiercely, as it always does. However, having lived in Joburg, Durban, and Cape Town for extended periods, I would suggest you have captured the differences in the mood and vibe very well. Durban and Johannesburg are far more integrated and equal societies, and because of that, they are far more friendly and laid-back. Joburg in particular is a cultural melting pot like no other in this country. All our ancestors went there seeking fortune during the gold rush. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Cape Town, make no mistake, but there are times and places where people deliberately make you feel like you don't belong. I even got called out for having a Durban accent once, which is not a big issue, but it does tell you something that fellow South Africans would pick up on that. And then the impoverished areas in Durban and Joburg are nowhere near as scary as the Cape Flats. I once got on a train to the Cape Flats by mistake and felt like I could meet my maker at any minute.

I was warned very many times about Cape flats. I don't know where it is and have no intention to find out. In your opinion why are people in Cape Town so stuck up?

@@nleddie I couldn't possibly tell you mate, but they spend a lot of time and energy trying to distinguish themselves from the rest of South Africa. A LOT. There is even a movement trying to get Cape Independence. I suspect a referendum vote would ultimately fail, but I cannot say I am 100% sure. LOL You just never know with the Western Cape. But I am not knocking them. I liked Cape Town, even though everything there is wildly overpriced. The property prices, owning or renting, are total madness.

@@nleddie They're arrogant and think their much better than the rest of S.A. You'll notice that they won't take your critism of their beloved city well, instead they'll try and drag Joburg into it and tell you how Joburg is far worse than CPT. Been to Durban and found the atmosphere and people warm compared to those in CPT (I just didn't like the humid weather unfortunately), but the people made up for it.

@@nleddie because Cape Town is considered the best run of the major cities in South Africa and one of the few that doesn't vote blindly in the political elections. The people are very opinionated. Ironically you said you dont want to do the touristy part of Cape Town. Well thats what Cape Town is for majority of the people who arent struggling. Going on hikes, the beaches, the food, the nightlife. Joburg is huge compared to Cape Town, ocean on both sides and a mountain in the middle there isnt land to build at a close distance to the City hubs. If you carried on the highway from the airport for 5-10 mins, you would find a completely different class of people and with it the moods are completely different. The poverty in Joburg is bad but you didnt see it, due its size btw you found the Cape Flats with your first Uber

Palm colored people are very different in Cape Town and Pretoria compared to Joburg. It's a beautiful place though. Keep to yourself and enjoy the experience or find easy going, open people to hang out with. A lot of people are also very open minded and fun. Cape Town is the vibiest most laid back city, especially during festive. Ke Dezemba mos 🥳

I think you do yourself a diservice by not visiting Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront, a winery, Robben Island, etc, etc. I may be biased, but Cape Town is a lovely place, and to miss out on so much because tourists also visit, is again, in my opinion, doing yourself a diservice. We who live here enjoy visiting these areas.

You're spot on about Cape Town. The energy is not the same as Joburg. It's everyone for himself over there, plus there's lost of discrimination between the different people groups. If you're expecting that open friendly, super energetic Joburg vibe you're going to be disappointed. I would recommend that you enjoy places and nature over there, don't focus too much on the people, they will make your visit unpleasant. Be a tourist this time, for your own sanity...😅😅 I lived in that city for a long time and visit every year, it's beautiful and has a strong San Fransisco vibe, but you're going to experience racism a lot over there. Even from people that are just one shade lighter than you. You must keep it a thousand with your vlogs and reviews, don't sugarcoat anything.
