This is so beautiful❤❤! ❤In 1996, my father, then 60, walked the camino right from home (Kortrijk België) to Santiago. Now he's 88 and each year he re-travels it via Google maps. It took him 4 months. I believe one of the best periods of his life.

THANK YOU for sharing this, Crystal ❤ It’s such a personal journey and you’re allowing us to come along. 😊 The scenery looks beautiful, even if the weather made it super tough. As you said, at your own pace, this is your journey and you’ll reach your destination. Good tip on the water, although too much is as dangerous as too little I’ve learned (hypernatremia). Drink to thirst and all will be fine. Look forward to day 2! 😊

Greetings from our Camino too. We’re currently in Logroño. Well done on that brutal first day climb out of St Jean. We stayed at Borda (1km on from Orisson). Those switchbacks were tough but the views were spectacular. We saw lots of birds of prey soaring in the thermals. You are right about water. We were carrying close to 3 litres each and had probably drunk about 2.5 litres by the time we got to Orisson for lunch. And we had cooler weather on 1st September so I dread to think how much water you needed in much hotter temps. It felt like a massive achievement when we rounded the bend in the road and Orisson came into sight like an oasis in the desert! Buen Camino and maybe see you down the road!

I have just discovered your channel and I am so happy to follow your Camino journey. You are a natural in front of the camera and I appreciate the details you share of the trip. I am thinking of walking the Camino, perhaps next year, and although I am much older than you, I face some of the same challenges. I have been married 30 years and have rarely travelled alone - it's scary! I eat a mostly vegetarian diet, and I wonder if that will be difficult. I struggle with perfectionism and self-consciousness in new situations - and international travel is FULL of new and unpredictable situations! I can't wait for your next video!
@vanhallaadventures2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Liz for the kind words :) I have seen people that are 85 years young walk the Camino - You CAN do it! I would suggest training as it will definitely help. I will post a video about this later after the actual vlog series as older with more info-based videos because I think that as we get older it can help tremendously to plan a bit more ahead for physical journeys. Vegetarian is doable on the camino - vegan is NOT so much. I am putting together a few food-based vlogs on this too I trust will be helpful for you! BUEN CAMINO :)

How exciting! Buen Camino :) I have my large duffel transferred each night to my next stop via a luggage transport. I used PILBEO and love them. $7 a day for it. This was such a great video, thanks so much! I was wondering how much training you did beforehand for the Camino? Some people seem to have found that first day or two much harder. I totally resonate with the unrealistic expectations we set for ourselves and getting past perfection. Hoping my Camino will help with that too! Thank you again. 😊

Thank you Melissa ❤️ Not too much and I was coming back from a life-threatening salmonella infection right before this. While I usually regularly hike I didn’t before this and I definitely could tell the difference. I am going to put out a video about how I’m training for my next Camino in about 1-2 months which I think you’ll find very helpful! While I definitely think there is some mind over matter I think getting the body ready is VERY helpful. With the amount of heat waves happening every year I think the easier you can make it on your body the better. I would, by the time you start, be able to walk up and down 2000 foot hills 2-3 days in a row and be able to walk the mileage you think you’ll walk each day for several days in a row with at least a day pack on. You can always take your time, rest, and go at your own pace. Only thing within that is thinking about how many days you have to walk due to work or finances and the heat in the afternoon. I’ll be going over this in length on a video though with my thoughts and also will have a Personal trainer giving some tips too! I hope that helps :)

Hi, such a realistic portrayal of the first day on the Camino. My son and I walked the Camino in July 2016. ( Hot!) I think about it EVERY day! The reflections stay with me, the perspective I gained is life changing. How did the rest of your journey go?
@vanhallaadventures2 жыл бұрын
Aw that’s so sweet that you walked with your son ❤️ the camino has the way of shifting us and I love hearing how others experience supported their personal evolution. I’m complete now and it was the best growth experience of my life. It was like 20 years of therapy and healing wrapped up in 2 months!
