What rockhound doesn't dream of cutting things open. I never got a chance to do this as a kid, but I finally figured out a way to do it without breaking the bank. This is the first rock I've ever cut open. It's a quartz rock we found in the dessert o the way back from Vegas this summer.
To get to this point, I had to find an AFFORDABLE tile saw. This one took a 1.5 hour round trip to get, and it was in very rough shape (hence getting in on the cheap). After a new power cord, new plumbing, grease, and a clean out, I got it up and running, though not at 100%. Good enough for the job.
Within a few minutes of getting it running, my daughter and I found a good candidate; a smallish pice of quartz, with good potential, but nothing we would cry over if it was ruined.
I came out pretty nice, actually, and now to figure out a way to polish these on the cheap. Let the rockhounding fun ensue!
