My FIRST EVER MTH Locomotive!! 2023 MTH Premier Alco RS11 D&H

In today's video we take a close look at my first ever MTH locomotive, D&H #5002! This locomotive was released last year as a custom engine by Mr Muffins Trains, and I'm super happy to add it to the collection! Hope you enjoy today's video, thanks for watching!!

All ZW powered my friend! When I go to build my next layout I'll be using power bricks instead since they have a consistent voltage output and are much better at prevent any shorts! Thanks for the comment!

Always love a D&H Alco! The blue goes great with your bay side caboose too. I just picked up an HO Athearn Genesis D&H 7401

Thank you David! It's hard to find a good MTH steam engine for a deal but they're out there! I like the more modern stuff with Proto Sound 3 because they sound great and can move really nice and slow!

A fine aquisition Corey! Congratulations! Discounting Post-War Lionels (another category) I don't consider myself as having any serious brand loyalty but I WILL say I've got more MTH products than any other brand and have been 100% satisfied with all of them. This may be your first MTH engine but I'll bet it won't be the last. MTH has done a number of D&H engines in the past like RS-3's and PA's so keep your eye out for those, they do show up on the used market from time to time. I've got a set of Williams Baldwin "Sharks" in D&H "Bluebonnet" markings myself, not that I'm a big D&H fan but the "Bluebonnet" paint scheme on a "Shark" just looks great! And even better the set was cheap! 🤩

I'll definitely be on the lookout for a nice PS3 steam engine as I've got a lot of D&H things now, but I don't want to spend everything I've got right away, a big part of the hobby as you know is waiting haha!

@@RsTrainsonYT Oh yeah, trust me! In this hobby patience is a virtue! (Although since I'm 70 I have to admit you've got a LOT more time than I do! ) Anyway, I've got all the Williams Sharks I need so don't worry about competition from me! Hey, any MTH PS-2 or PS-3 is a good buy. The only thing I'd do is replace the battery in the PS-2 engines with a BCR. I've done it with all of mine and it's money well-spent.

Nice purchase. I bought 5003 when they first came out last year. 5002 was tempting, but I preordered the all blue RS-3 last year that the Muffin man just released.

Thank you DelHudson! It would be interesting to see if they made as many 5003's as they did 5002 (I'd assume yes), but either way they both look nice! I wanted to get the RailKing RS3 #4118 too but I found the Battenkill one instead which I'll be putting a video out on next week. Thanks for the comment!

I got mine at Christmas. O is lucky that Mr. Muffin is such a fan of the Delaware & Hudson and jumps at the chance to do D&H custom runs. HOWEVER, MTH is not giving him fair value for his money with their sloppy D&H graphics. When he made a referral, MTH told me I was wrong. Look at the top of the "T" on the shields on this model. It is supposed to be a straight spear. It is bent on every one. Bent spears. Great job. On the positive side Mr. Muffin is backing Lionel D&H this year with Alco S2's and EMD SD-45's.

Corey what model number is it Is it premier Rail king scale It is a nice engine I believe you can run it with your DCC system

Hi William, I don't know the model number off my head, probably a 30-98000 series from MTH if that is what you're asking. Loco itself is a good ol' RS11, with this one's real life counterpart being built in 1960. MTH to my knowledge has never produced a RailKing RS11, only Premier.

Atlas Trains made this model probably 10 years ago in HO scale and they're not that easy to find because there weren't that many of them made, best thing is to keep an eye out on eBay as that is where a lot of HO scale D&H stuff is!

The plan put forward at the time was that this "simplified" paint scheme saved the railroad $500. on each unit. As the railroad was struggling for its very survival at the time, it is a valid theory. The Plaza was sold. The Penn Division was closed down. Cost cutting was everything. But the "blue & gray" was and will always remain the classic D&H color scheme.
