My (American) family lived in Turkey before I was born. Unfortunately, I've never been, but there are few places I'd rather visit if given the opportunity. The food, the language, the culture, and the people are are so beautiful. I'm glad you get to travel there and I hope that one day I will be able to as well.

As i Russian living in US i worked for a Turkish company for 9 years in New York... Our boss was actually a Georgian/Jew/Turk (Born in Turkey) who only hired ex Soviets and Turks... That experience opened my eyes a lot and i can tell you for sure that Turks and Russians are almost the same in terms on mentality and food preferences :) Those 2 will get along just fine.

Language: Not, if you are German. There are many Turkish people speaking German who went back from Germany or visiting familiy in Turkey. I was there with an American and he was surprised that I had no real problems talking with people there. He was used to find many people speaking English everywhere in Europe and this was a quite different situation for him. The people are wonderful in Turkey.

Russians travel to Turkey as much, like Americans travel to South America, Caribbean and Mexico. Because it's very cheap and also it's a very beautiful country, language, hospitality, where it's safe and with a lot of hotels on the beach (like south of Turkey, Antalya/Alanya/Kemer/Fethyie/Oludeniz/Kas/Bodrum/Marmaris all these cities with everything included, food entertainment and alot of tours. Russians love to buy packages,, with all inclusive - (flight, hotel, tour and food) all for one price. That's why they keep coming back. Also a lot of them are buying out a lot of properties there, like (apartments and villas/houses), where they keep coming back each year. Almost like a vacation home. Plus they open there businesses and make money. i myself love Turkey, dreaming of buying an apartment there and retire, because my American Dollars will stretch very far in that country. I travel there almost every year, and it's always feel like, it's my first time there. And I started traveling there since 2013 and I keep coming back, I've traveled all of south of Turkey from Mersin - Cesme + Istanbul + Adana + Elazig. Rented a car for 10 days for $250. Amazing trip, will never forget. Turkey always in my heart.

I have seen clothing stores using the new official name on the label 'made in Türkiye' not only in Englisg but also French, German. I think initially, this only applied to English but is later chosen to apply to many other languages, because English, Turkey is both an animal and a country, but not other languages. Another example i can remember is the word 'Peru' in portuguese. Again, it can refer to the country (Peru) or the animal (turkey)

Well when I lived in Istanbul I was living very near to a touristic area. And very often tourists missed the right bust station and they were coming to my street and get lost. And everytime when I was going to work I was checking the streets and bus stations to see if there are some confused tourists. I can speak english german and russian. I would ask them if they need help and most of the time I was taking them to my car and drive them to the right spot. I was reccomending them some stores and places to make shopping for local prices. Because in touristic shops prices are generally higher. I was like a volunteer tourism information service in my area. )))

Eli -- Good for you! My wife and I both fell in love with Turkey the times we were there. Istanbul is a wonder of a city! There is also so much to see outside of Istanbul. (Actually, the only part of turkey that we did not particularly care for was Ankara which we found to be charmless.) But everything else there is wonderful. The people are very nice. The food is delicious, The countryside is beautiful, the ancient Greek ruins are spectacular. Walking through the leftover ruins of Troy is awe-inspiring. At one point we became hopelessly lost walking around Istanbul, and a very nice lady walked way out of her way (the world before GPS) to help us back to a neighborhood we knew. If you enjoy it as we did, I hope you are able to get residency there.

Hello. This is the first video of you I've watched. It certainly won't be the last. I would like to share a few thoughts. In the past, when Russian was mentioned, the human type that came to my mind was blonde, mostly blue-eyed, mostly blonde hair, and sometimes squinted eyes. Although I am a very curious person; when I read or watch anything, I spend hours of internet browsing to learn more :) Although I know that Russia has such a diverse ethnicity, I did not know that it has so many different Turkic communities. I am not talking about the Turkic countries that gained their freedom. I'm talking about the many Turkic autonomous countries that exist in what is now Russia. You come from one of them. I must also say that your English is far ahead of any Russian I have seen here. I see you as more European than Russian. I will watch your other videos from time to time. Keep going like that. Thank you Eli. I love Istanbul and hope to visit one day. Especially to experience the Hagia Sophia. The food looks amazing. So many dishes in one meal.

The Hagia Sophia is grossly over rated. You ascend a ramp then look up at the dome. Very underwhelming and plenty of Turkish hawkers will harass you while the authorities look the other way. Tourist brochures are not to be trusted.
