First time climbing up and piecing down a tree. Many thanks to coworker Joe for allowing me the opportunity, and for the patience as after reviewing the video, I was working at a snails pace. Safety first of course, but I must get more efficient.
Swapped out the 201T for me modified one with 16" bar over the stock with 14", in case you were wondering.

one of the very first if not the first tree climbing video ive ever watched 3-4 years ago. it was what made me want to do it. after finishing school for arboriculture and doing it for 2 seasons, going on my third, im having fun doing it, learning lots, and making decent money. looking forward to the next year or two when i start slowly opening my own tree service. thanks a lot corey, you inspired me a lot

Good to see you from when you first started. I am an apprentice now for Wright tree and love the climbing aspect of the work and getting better myself. I just can’t seem to figure out the bucket work to well with the awkward pole saw and being that I’m very short as it is. I just need to take my time and eventually I will get the hang of it.

This video is a bit older now, so I suspect you've learned a few things since. Personally I think it's really important to have a way to descend at all times. Instead of using a 2 in 1 lanyard, use a climbing system and a lanyard if you're double-lanyarding your way up the tree. That way if you hit a nest of angry bees you can escape without trying to tie your friction hitches.
@Human1337
@Human1337 7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Haven't been using that 2-in-1 in awhile, These days I've been using two separate lanyards, a bit long than most use, I often clip to CAP and use them as a short climb line.

I prefer a full wrap if you need to be locked that tight ( when you take a big skinny top or are gonna go for a ride). Try to stay upright in your stance and spread your spurs to the outer trunk to stabilize It’s also good to atleast loop your climbing line around the trunk below your lanyard when taking a tree top or blocking down the peg. Just incase your saw gets pulled into your lanyard. Also try tying your climbing system before even leaving the ground. It’s what I use instead of the other end of my lanyard when passing a tree limb. You can also girth hitch you climbing line on the back of the trunk so you can lean the other way for a well positioned cut ( Large diameter body wood). This tree doesn’t require those techniques but they will come in handy. Good to see the passion. Nice first go brother

Your in-tree work looked good. Safe=good. You'll get better at managing your tether and climb lines with practice. You'll need to learn to rig the tree chunks so they don't damage the landscape or your life support gear. That's important.

OK so everybody has to start somewhere try a snap cut . Cut 2\3rd one direction either up or down 3 to 5" above or below strait across and then the same on the other side across opposite direction a little more than half way. Snap the piece off and throw it to the ground. Practice can do pretty large limbs

Where do you go to get education and training on arbor work? I’ve felled probably 10 trees and enjoy the process and labor to follow. After watching your video and others, I would love to learn the expertise of climbing, safety, and taking down a tree piecemeal. I bet it feels super rewarding.
@nate2838

One place to start is as a groundsman for a company. There is a difference between running a saw on your own property and running it as part of a crew, keeping track of ALL that is going on around you. After working as a groundsman for a while, learning how to be part of a crew and how it functions, then look into climbing. I'm not sure about how to go straight into climbing, however i highly recommend learning the ground first. You have a much better appreciation for the people helping you out if you've done it before. And yes, when you'r team gets along well and respects each other, it feels great. the main thing is keeping focused on what is in front of you and not getting caught up in the "time is money". Thats where stress takes over, and safety and job satisfaction get compromised, proportional to the amount of stress and impatience present on the job.

Then you get up there, and it's a whole lot more difficult than you think. The very next day I did another removal which needed a bigger saw to block out some trunk about 20 feet up, took me a good 5 minutes to make a decent notch, lol.
