I'm soooo nervous for my exam this month , I don't even know how to fight well enough!! I'm a white belt passing to a yellow stripe Update a year later: I'm a green belt now and still keeping at it!!!! :D Update, I'm a blue belt now and participated in the 1st tkd world cup, won two medals- damn-

emi dl Hey, good luck on your exam! Its okay if you don’t know how to fight “well enough” - looking back at this video I had no idea what I was doing haha. Try your best during the cardio part of the exam but also leave some room for sparring. The instructors want to see you have the right basic techniques and most importantly control over your kicks and punches. Take your time and remember your forms! I’m sure you’ll pass your exam - give it your all! :)

What level of contact was this? I know most official ITF tournaments are semi-contact, though there are apparently some full-contact ones floating around.
@Dluu226 жыл бұрын
I believe color belts are semi-contact until black belt tournaments. You can hear the ref say “light contact, light contact” after we exchanged some hard shots I guess haha. This was in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada so I guess it depends on the tournament, referee, judges, etc...
@SaftonYT6 жыл бұрын
Ah, I must have missed the ref saying that! Thanks, I appreciate the info. ITF-style TKD has become an interest of mine recently. Are you still training, out of curiosity?
@Dluu226 жыл бұрын
Safton Unfortunately I don’t train TKD anymore as I shifted my focus on competitive Powerlifting now. But every now and then I like to go back to my old do-jang and so some sparring. That’s awesome, you should find a good ITF do-jang and try it out! Have you had previous martial arts experience before?
@SaftonYT6 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with that! Having known a few powerlifters, I've got nothing but respect for the amount of dedication and training that's required. I've always enjoyed learning about & discussing martial arts as a hobby, but I've never had the opportunity for formal training. I'm seriously considering starting up soon though (to get in shape as much as for the learning experience) as I plan to pursue a career in law enforcement. I don't know if it will be TKD, though; I love watching striking arts, but on a personal level I'm more interested in grappling. It helps that literally next door to my current workplace there's a fairly well-regarded BJJ school.
@Dluu226 жыл бұрын
Safton Appreciate the kind words! That’s awesome man, you do whatever interests you the most! I think any type of striking art has a strong cardio component which will probably help you in law enforcement let alone the self defense component. Good luck with your pursuit!

whats your age at the day you fight in that video? i'm practicing TKD ITF at 19 yo (kinda late actually) and i'm gonna have my exam coming up at sept 30 for white yellow stripe or even yellow if my i'm doing great, kinda want to ask shall i start sparring as soon as possible? because i heard from my instructor there is sparring session in yellow belt rank
@Dluu226 жыл бұрын
I was either 19 or 20 at the time. Whether or not you should spar depends on if your instructor thinks you’re ready. Important thing it to have adequate control and a level of maturity when sparring. I may have started sparring as a white belt and yellow stripe earlier than some people but everyone has their own pace and like I said, will depend on if your instructor thinks you’re ready

Can't wait to start taekwondo which is better ITF OR WTF?
@Dluu228 жыл бұрын
That's great that you're starting TKD. Neither is better than the other. It is up to your own preference. Do your reserach. Both styles are quite differeent in terms of pattern, sparring and self defense. From what I know about WTF, they spar more for the sport and compeititon. Less emphasis on patterns. ITF on the other hand, from my experience, teaches more realistic sparring as you're using both your hands and feet. Rules are less strict in compeition as you're allowed to punch in the head and face as well. On a more political and philosophical side, ITF follows the teachings of the original father of TKD, General Choi Hong Hi. In my opinion, if you want more real self defense skills and tools you can use realistically on the streets, stick with ITF, but if you prefer TKD as a sport then go with WTF.
@s87cgn937 жыл бұрын
Can you do both ITF for self defense and WTF for completion?

*unknown* If you're club teaches tkd like that. But I have never heard a club like that before. Both are good styles man, just look up videos on youtube and pick which one you like best. As long as you find a good club that isn't a "Mc-dojo".

I remember my first time as a yellow belt going up against another yellow belt, I did a spinning hook kick but I injured his back, I kind of went a little bit more easy on him after that, I asked if he was okay and everything, after the fight, we both hugged each other and shook hands, lol.
@randomstuff47622 жыл бұрын
Great movement and form is pretty good. Try to use punch-then-kick combinations when you block a kick. Good ol' 1,2 Anuro chaggi works great and then you can just add another 1,2 and keep going (of course it won't last forever but you probably will get points until your opponent figures out how to counter it). Also try to enter with more durakamiyo yop chaggi and then start guburyo sogi spam, works great.

I believe it was on points. Even though he made a few "body shots" on me I did defend it with my hand but judges that couldn't see from where they were sitting might have thought that it got my body due to the sound of the impact with my glove. It's okay! I don't t think I should have won, he deserved it. TK.

How do you win in ITF. Because I do WTF.
@briangonzalez64325 жыл бұрын
Mogu sparring in ITF is semi contact only and punches to the body and face are allowed (straight punches) 4 judges takes their own corner to observe the fight and count the points on either red or blue, once the fight is done, with each judge whichever color has the highest point raises it up and whichever color is raised up the most from 4 judges wins
@hanburgundy43172 жыл бұрын
@@briangonzalez6432 Why didn't the kid in blue win the bout? He was a lot more aggressive and controlled the duration of the match, and when the yellow belt attacked he defended well.
@briangonzalez64322 жыл бұрын
@@hanburgundy4317 Yellow belt still kicked on the body of the white belt which is 2 points while white belt missed most of them and made some contact on the body which is less than what yellow belt did, and kicks on the legs aren’t allowed in ITF matches so that’s why. Even tho he tried defending, he still got kicked most on the body. But it mostly depends on the judges view from each corner, they the ones that scores point on what they see and then they vote in which has the most point, the red sees red or blue for each corner, and whichever color has true most vote wins

@katieshort.063 жыл бұрын
No, ITF and WTF are both types of Taekwondo. WTF is World Taekwondo Federation and ITF is International Taekwondo Federation. They have different patterns, focuses and philosophies. In a nutshell, WT is more for sport than ITF but ITF can be considered more practical and has a bit more of a focus on patterns. Those aren’t the only things but it’s a start.
