Tree months ago I started to teach my wife. Fortunately I had a lot of experience what beginner should not do so she was got on a board during 2 months including stable riding and transitions by practicing only on week end. Looking for myself now I could find a lot mistakes that I did because of lack of experienced guy around me. Any way my experience shows that self kitesurfing studying is possible. But in my case it was possible just because of video so I was able to analyze my mistakes and correct it for the next time. In case you have a good friend who can provide a good assistance during your study it could speed up the process about 2 times and avoid some hard crashes. Good luck! Kitesurfing is the best outdoor hobby that I have ever met.

Just for the benefit of the others. That's definitely too close to the beach. If the water is too deep you could as well shorten the line for safety. It'd be a lot safer to have at least a friend nearby to help grabbing your kite when crashing. Other than that, I think you're doing great. Oh and if you have a chance to practice wakeboarding either on cable or boat towing, that will definitely help with your leg works.

South Korea, Busan, Dadaepo beach. Busan stays on southern point of Korea and surrounded with ocean from south and west, so all wind directions except Eastern to North quarter are acceptable. There are several spots that are good for specific wind direction. This year I was kiting almost every weekends.

Except for the part where you were successful, it looks like all of my attempts to get planing. I haven't been able to get up and plane but one time for a few feet. Frustrating!

I taught myself, took a lot of hours before I got success. I would have used an instructor but in my part of the world...this was impossible. It can be a very risky activity but with some common sense its possible to learn on your own...at least have someone watching over you. Oh...and keep well away from that beach...too close!!! when learning especially.

I am in absolutley same situation, looking forward to 6th waterstart tryout :D Tell me, did u get upwind ability on the go or u mixed it up with waterstarts? Something like less focus on start, mo re focus on carving? Love the videos!

Now I could advice you, so it was my key point at that time to succeed. The first most important is you have to be confident with kite control. You should not afraid to work with kite very aggressive. It is important, without such skills you will not get required power from the kite. You can achieve it when you turn your bar quickly almost vertically for short time and then return to the neutral position. Such action moves your kite to power zone. The next important tip is you should use the biggest twin tip board that you could find. And the last tip it is better to use about 2m bigger kite size than other people around (of cause with your weight, wind must be strong enough). In case you will get all these conditions you can succeed with water start and go upwind at the same time, so did I. To go upwind with counted before conditions you need just move your weight to back leg and continuously try point front leg up wind (that means you should make some effort but the real board direction still will be very slight up wind). Please be noted that such technique is just for easy start up, after getting confident with water start skills you will use a little different technique to go upwind.

After 3 years of youtubing, googlin and asking, u confirmed i did well with buying. Got 2 sq m bigger than rest, 5cm bigger board but i am still little afraid of pulling the par and making fast moves. 2 much power. Ill wait for low wind days. Thx for the tips, hope to get couple of vifeos. Cheers :D
