Your Warlord Civil War infantry stand (with 20 miniatures on it) is the equivalent to 6 stands in Fire and Fury (at 3 figures per stand; see preparing for battle @ 2:56 on your video) with 2 figures 'left over'. If you use it to represent 15 stands, then perhaps all you need to do is change the distances so that the ranges and movement is about 1/2 of that in the rules (and 1" on the table will represent 80 or 120 yards (instead of 45 or 60 yards). Likely it would be 100 yards if we are using the Warlord stand as the equivalent to 15 stands. [Note that in line formation, the units are deployed in two ranks, making them 1/2 as long as you mentioned - 15 stands will usually be 8" wide].

@@CounterProductiveGames Yes, you likely can make the brigades you need. Also, I saw another KZbinr cut his 10 man stands in half and make two units out of each 10 man strip. You could also base them only 1 deep. You have some options.

I have the first edition of the Brigade rules. Based on your review and flip-through I went ahead and ordered a copy (for when I want to fight those larger battles). Take a look at the regimental rules; you will like them as well.

I have been playing this set since 1999. Yes, it's the best out there. You just have fun and don't worry about what people say. Also the player aid cards, you need a few and it was good you picked up another set. after all these years, this rule set still works day after day. One thing about this hobby and ruleset... you can go down the rabbit hole with this and end up with 10000000 guys on each side :) also, if you end up going to any convention, everyone playing the ACW big games or smaller games, they us this set. congrats on finding out the right set right out of the gate. To use this for epic I just cut the strips in half and then rebase them. That worked well. You don't have to do anything though, it will work fine like you have found out.
@CounterProductiveGames3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. We're making work and I've tried a few different rulesets, but nothing seems to work as well as this one. It's hard for me to explain other than, it just works and it works really well! I just need to find an easier way to label them. Such a chore to print cut so many labels each time I do a scenario. I think I'll write it out with pencil on a counter that follows the unit. Might be easier for me in the long run!

Great Video! I'm doing the same sort of thing only using Regimental F&F with my WL Epic figures. I'd love to see more videos on how you adapted the WL bases to the F&F rules after you have more experience playing.
@CounterProductiveGames3 жыл бұрын
First thing I did was bump each Brigade from one to three bases. That way I at least have fresh/worn/spent covered. Looks a little more epic that way and allows deny the flanks a bit easier. I'll share for sure anything else I do.
@sean2503 жыл бұрын
@@CounterProductiveGames That makes a lot sense! Great to see videos on F&F, I know it's been around for a long time but there isn't a lot of videos covering the rules on KZbin. Also I'm sure there are a lot of people looking for alternative rules to Black Powder to use these wonderful miniatures, and F&F seems like a great fit if you can modify the system to work with the bases.
@CounterProductiveGames3 жыл бұрын
@@sean250 I agree, F&F looks great, but putting large bases into a smaller base removal game is going to be a challenge. Luckily, I don't see any issues with leaders and arty and possibly cavalry when I get those. Just the infantry so far, but I think I'm onto a good compromise using three bases per brigade.

I think you should look at using two Epic stands per brigade instead of one because of the formation rules. Having a single line or supported line is an important part of the combat rules. A major problem with using Epic stands is that the brigades (actually the regiments within the brigades) got smaller as the war progressed, and therefore the frontages also decrease. Another thing I would look at is making a single shooting template (instead of the one included in the rules) that matches the width of the Epic stand and has a centerline drawn up in the middle. If any part (any amount) of the target extends past (beyond) this centerline, the full strength of the stand strength is used for firing. If no part of the target extends across this centerline, then half the stand strength is used (the side the target is on, rounding down, with the other half still eligible to fire if there is a target).
@CounterProductiveGames2 жыл бұрын
Great Idea for the template, thank you. What I decided to do with the stands is have each stand represent 2 from the game. Since they are about 2.5 inches long. So if they game says a formation is 10 stands normally, then I'm using 5 epic. It works better and allows for some formation control and setting flanks.

Good review, but I think you spent too much time explaining how you adapted things to the Warlord models. Also, you mentioned at 9:45 that the game has been around for a while and the design team had years to perfect the layout and presentation, but it's worth mentioning that the original rules (that came out in 1990 and were the first game produced by the designers) were also stunningly well presented from the start since Rich Hasenauer, the company founder, is actually a graphic designer by profession.

thanks for watching and leavein a comment. I spent time talking about using it with the epic figures because that is all I have, so in order for me to learn the rules, I kinda have to fudge things to fit what I have.

Thanks for sharing!! Just a suggestion, if you are going to change the scale that much, you may want to consider another game like altar of freedom which is more suited to 1 stand= 1 brigade. Fire and fury is a great rule set, agreed, it just does different Things for the scale involved
@CounterProductiveGames3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried Altar of Freedom and it's a good game, but I really think BFF is the better game. As such, since I bought all these figures without doing any proper research, I don't want to spend money all over again just to play BFF properly, money is tight these days so I'll improvise with what I got :)
@kartchner73 жыл бұрын
@@CounterProductiveGames not sure how many you bought, but the epic ACW starter box has plenty of figs to play fire and fury if you count 1 base= 2 bases in F&F size. the frontage is 2.36" instead of 2" close enough! I think you can play F&F with 60 bases=120 bases a side. Good luck to you! however you want to do it, is always the key, just a suggestion, your minis=your choice

For multi-corps ACW this is still one of the best and a personal favorite... also do a lot of Black Powder. Question when you played did you play the generic main book or the ACW supplement. If it was the main book thats why it was blah. I mix and match the 2 games on occasion for certain scenarios... FnF was a great choice,enjoy.
@CounterProductiveGames3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for commenting. I just played from the main book. However, since recording this, I've played a few more games and I have to say, it's amazing. The simple system for creating armies from scratch creates nuances in troops that I think right now is superior to any game out there. I'm glad I went down this path as well!
