If you are representing skirmishers then mount units in single ranks and move the front rank forward to represent skirmish order but I don’t remember if you count all firing or fire only the front rank ???
@leonleese49199 күн бұрын
When firing Mike an angle reader that shows who can’t fire as the supplied templates have too many options so make several copies to make it easier for use on the table. Same with wheeling make the template to show the inside arc of the wheel. It really speeds up play and makes it more accurate. In a battle losses are usually along all the line until it become necessary to close ranks or reform but bear in mind you may have a frontage to cover then brigade may tell the colonel what to do.

However if you were using the correct basing you wouldn’t need that. When you loose a base you loose 1 strength point, but using the Epic Black Powder bases of 10 files (60mm wide). 3 officer figures on a small square or round base behind to represent each of the 3 troop bases of 20mm each. Remove an officer for each time a base is lost. Alternatively if you don’t want to paint all those officers you could just use a small penny counter paint green with a red I, II, or III to represent.base es removed in the ACW I believe a 2nd Lt. was used behind the platoon to keep them steady whereas British Napoleonic would have used a sergeant for the platoon and a 2nd. Lt. for the company. On a company level the ACW would probably be the same. I decide to paint a 28mm. Brigade for napoleonic revised to a battalion when I counted the cost of extra minis but everything is sold in packs these days so I’ll need a rethink for the 3rd division at Waterloo as Pictons division may be more interesting. Back to ACW :- the first Manassas has an 11 mile front that’s going to take some planning as 10mm bases 2 ranks of 2 files with 10mm figures might be a bit fiddly to play with ☹️

@CounterProductiveGames4 ай бұрын
If you use the smaller scale, you can use them right on the hex maps. however, I have found that with 15mm tanks, I just multiply `the shooting ranges and the movement range by 3 and the game plays wonderfully with miniatures. Yeh, the photocopied pages are from the 1986 "revised and expanded" rule set. In the blue box. Looks like the original owner just borrowed a copy and xeroxed the pages they needed to update. Fun game - nice and fast playing. Not as detailed as SFB but with a good gaming circle you could play a few games of STCS in a night. There is still an active community online and even an unofficial set of rules that try to mimic SFB.

Saw it, didn't understand why it was published because SFB was already on the market ... at the switch up Roddenberry did by making a Bird of Prey a Klingon thing when it was a Rom ship in the series ... is just more swtich up by the Trek powers that be. I bought the FASA RPG, but had a hard time getting a group together due to the POS family.
@CounterProductiveGames5 ай бұрын
I think this was on the market because someone thought they had a better gaming experience. That, and FASA could license the newer ships that SFB doesn't have. I think SFB is a more complete simulation than STTCS, however, STTCS is a much simpler system to get into and has access to the all the pretty ships on the TV and Movies. Just my 2 cents.
@CaptainHarris-ip2kg5 ай бұрын
@@CounterProductiveGames I think you're right. SFB was for the hard core war sim gamer. ST RPG still asked more of your average RPer, but this game seemed more streamlined.

@@CounterProductiveGames Just to add here, I never had any arguments nor heated debates about rules with FASA nor Game Designer Workshop games, but SFB nearly destroyed friendships as it evolved. I still liked SFB for what it was, but I wish I had done more FASA instead of TFG => SFB. Great video and commentary, BTW. Excellent job. Thanks for this, and thanks for the reply. All the best.

@@CounterProductiveGames because of my failing eyesight I do like the extra large hexes with larger counters. And no need to stack counters with large hexes, you can see everything at once and don’t risk huge stacks falling over. @Redwhiteblue-gr5em9 ай бұрын
How do these two games compare to Advanced Squad Leader ASL and Advanced Tobruk System ATS?
@CounterProductiveGames9 ай бұрын
Luckily, I have played both and can answer that briefly in a KZbin comment. ASL has a fixed turn structure that tells you when you can do things like move and fire. In ATS, when you activate a hex, you can decide what it does. In OST, you use impulse points to alternate with your opponent activating units. It really lends itself to a nice back and forth between players. As far as infantry combat, I'd say OST is closer to ASL with 2d6 system comparing attack values to defense value. However, you don't have to worry about things like weapon jams, flamethrowers running out of fuel etc. For armored combat, OST is more like ATS in that you have data cards that list gun pen values at different ranges. It's definitely simplified overall compared to ASL, but has that tiny touch of crunch with the charts. Overall, it is not as complex as either, but has enough complexity to give believable battle results. If your looking for a game that will let you play WW2 battles without the need for extensive rules or an investment of time, then I'd say give it a try.
@Redwhiteblue-gr5em9 ай бұрын
@@CounterProductiveGames thanks OST sounds interesting. These days I prefer ATS as I think its armor game is far more realistic than ASL and its entire rule set is actually simpler to use. ASL has become too complex for its own good and not very enjoyable.
